USD POLL : Who is the best actor on cable TV?
Hi all
Once again I've updated the Character Relationship Chart for the past couple of episodes. This update has taken me longer to get around to than I expected because I've had a couple of other things happening. But the chart is all set to go for the return of the best show on TV on January 3!!
As per usual, the chart is available on my website, which I've newly revamped, www.seriesmonitor.com, in the Other Stuff section of Person Of Interest.
Keep clicking on the chart below until you see it full size
Enjoy!!

USD POLL : Which is the best CBS show?
(Check out my newly refurbished website, www.seriesmonitor.com)
I've had this poll in mind for a while now, and because almost all the shows are taking a break for Christmas and New Year, I thought it might be a good time to put the poll out there, given it requires a little thought, and that one show you like could sway your answer
The question is which two elements do you pay the most attention to when looking at a new show, or a show that you haven't watched before??
The four answers and their definitions with examples are:
Concept - this includes elements like the year or era, environmental setting, and influences or obstacles that are unique, such as a lack of electricity in NBC's Revolution, or a submarine on ABC's Last Resort.
Action - covers things such as shootouts, car chases, supernatural or mysterious forces and the like. It can also be non confrontational, dramatic, time critical, or political, with ABC's Scandal being a prime example. In short, something happening at speed and with intensity
Characters - could be atypical characters in a typical setting, such as Gregory House from FOX's House M.D., or typical characters in atypical settings such as Richard Castle in ABC's Castle. Couples, groups of characters, heroes, villains, protagonists, antagonists, also count here
Story - Pretty self-explanatory. Covers what happened in the past, what is happening at the moment, and what may happen in the future. All shows have a story of some sort
It's important to remember that all these elements tie in very closely together. The concept and the story work with one another, whilst the characters are involved in all the action. The story can influence the actions of a character and different concepts require different forms of action. These relationships continue around and around
This is quite a broad topic and I've attempted to simplify things right down. I think these four categories cover everything pretty well, but everyone is different so be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below, this topic creates a lot of discussion!
The poll is below. You can vote for one or two choices. I hope everyone had a happy Christmas, and is looking forward to 2013!

Welcome to SpoilerTV's weekly edition of Fringe Friday!
We've had our obligatory...uhm... trip into the mind of Walter, and we found our black umbrella within the labyrinthine confines of what Walter subconsciously stored in his thoughts and fears. These included the haunting image of his deceased lab assistant, egging him on to find and delve into his past works and therefore his own previous consciousness that he's been so terrified of becoming throughout the show, and most notably this season. But young Nina was also there to steer him true and away from the nefarious deeds of his past. However, from the final image of 5.09 we see that what he fears is not so easily remedied, nor is it going to just go away if he wills it so.
So far we've gone through a multitude of VHS tapes, and they've kept the team searching for the missing pieces of the puzzle. I quietly loathe the fact that they have to rely on tapes every episode, but it seems to be working correctly to push the plan onward. We're still getting doses of LSD-drenched goodness and character growth...as well as the occasional Fringe event as well. I feel like it's still all just setup for the last 2 episodes though -- as if they're peddling around what they want to do in the last 2 hours. We will see, but perhaps we'll finally meet Donald, perhaps he'll be a decent character and a good surprise, and it'll lead to a breathtaking series finale--the one that we've now been promised by our faithful producer J.H. Wyman.
Today's topic: How well do you think the finale will be tied into the past of Fringe? Do you think it will strongly mirror the pilot, frame for frame in a sense, or will it push into new territory to solve and finish the story for good?
Let us know your thoughts below in the comments! HAPPY FRINGE FRIDAY, FOLKS!

USD POLL : Favourite Female main character in a vampire saga?
POLL : What did you think of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Reynolds vs. Reynolds: The Cereal Defense?
Agent Olivia (Dunham, umm no) Riley
is pursuing Mike with more hatred thought possible of a human being. In the
last few episodes, we have seen Sonja Sohn (Body of Proof) scream orders into a
walkie talkie with a voice faster than an auctioneer. Sonja Sohn was perfectly
cast as Riley and is fun to watch. My first thought when I watched this episode
was, “She’s just doing her job. How can you blame her? Mike would do the same
thing in her position.” I immediately thought of (DEXTER SPOILER ALERT) the
recently deceased Captain Laguerta of Showtime’s Dexter. They are both major
pains for our protagonists, extremely determined, but also with good intentions.
Laguerta wants to catch the real Bay Harbor Butcher and clear her ex’s name.
Riley simply wants to catch the murderer of a decorated CIA official. My
thoughts on Riley were changed drastically in the episode. I won’t say exactly
what it is, but Riley crosses the line in a big way. Good intentioned no more; Olivia
Riley is just as bad as Tom Card.
Speaking of bad people, Michael Westen
isn’t exactly in the clear. Last we saw him, Mike found a note from someone
wanting to meet. That someone, we will learn, is CSS agent Jason Bly. Bly wants
to offer Mike a deal, but there is no way to sugar coat it. Even as vague as
the offer is, you can tell that it doesn’t end up nice for anyone. As Bly puts it, his deal is the, “Last, best,
and only deal you’re going to get.” But, I’ll leave the rest of Bly’s story to
everyone on Thursday night.
I do want to talk a little about
how Michael Westen has changed the last few seasons. When we first met him, all
Michael cared about was getting back to the CIA. Then, he gets back and just
wants out. Now he’s more than out, and… what now? The problem Westen has is
setting a limit. It’s like Walter on Fringe
not setting himself any boundaries in the lab. Michael has lost countless
friends and even his brother to this entire situation over the last 6 seasons
and still does not know his limits. All this time, Michael has had 3 people who
always remain loyal to him; Sam, Fiona, and his Mom. Throw Jesse into the mix
and you have 4 musketeers for Michael. As has been teased throughout the
season, Michael is going to continue to put those people directly in the line
of fire. If we were to see a figurative translation of what Mike has done the
last few seasons, we would see him cowering in the corner while his Mom,
girlfriend, and 2 best friends do all the talking (and shooting). This is a major part of the
season finale and leads one of the most beloved Burn Notice characters to a
slippery slope.
Favorite Quotes of the Episode
“Mr. Porter is a clever one.” – Olivia Riley
“Come on Campbell.” – Sam Axe (Which is ironic considering the the actor who plays Sam is named Bruce Campbell)
“He owes me $20.” – Jesse Porter
“Who uses a phonebook these days? You guys don’t have internet?” – Jesse Porter
"Did you take pictures?" - Sam Axe
“This ends now!” – Michael Westen (Seriously Mike, how many times have you said that?)
Action: 10/10
Plausibility: 6/10
Writing: 10/10
Overall: 8.7/10

USD POLL : Which of these is the Best Genre Show?
Hawaii Five-0 Episode 3.16 - Episode Details & Title Revealed Including Possible Episode Dates up to 3.16
"Who is Deb now? Who am I? Is this a new beginning? Or the beginning of the end?"
And thus ends another season of my beloved Dexter. And was it a good season? You're damn right it was. I haven't seen a season this good since S4. The major plot was solid, the recurring guest stars were terrific, and overall the show sure did go up a few notches. I just hope they keep this momentum running in its next and final season. Before season 7 began, I made a wish list of things I'd like to see in it. Now seems like a good time to look back it and see how much of it came true. Spoilers ahead, obviously.
1. Kill LaGuerta - Ding dong, the b*tch is dead! It took them long enough, but they finally got rid of her. I kind of expected that's the way she'd go as her plot developed. Speaking of which, what's up with that? Along the series LaGuerta wasn't really the sharpest tool in the shed. But when she found that blood slide she somehow turned into super-cop. Some people say this change was because it was a personal case, seeing that she and Doakes were close. Others say it's simply because the writers change. Anyway, it felt pretty out of character. But hell, if it led to her long-awaited demise, who am I to complain? Adios, LaGuerta.
2. Give New Characters an Actual Purpose - Let's talk for a second about the old-new characters. Like I said in the list, Mike Anderson was a pretty pointless character. Hell, the coolest thing he did was to "Flamingo" someone. I guess the writers wanted to get rid of him ASAP so he got killed about 20 minutes into the premiere. Sure, it was kinda random, but it led to Dexter killing Victor, which ignited the whole Koshka plot, so I guess it served a purpose. And on the other hand, there's Louis. Louis didn't do much either in S6 except dating Jamie, being weirdly obsessed with Dex and sending him the hand, all of which looked like a tease for a bigger role he'd play in S7. So we get a cool scene in Louis's place where Dexter threatens him, some mind games and mean looks, and it feels like it's leading up to some boiling point....And then Isaak kills Louis. Ummm....Seriously? I understand that they killed Louis early on, but why Isaak? This death was also pretty freakin' random. They built up all this tension between Dex and Louis only for Isaak to shoot him in a case of mistaken identity? That was kind of a let-down, I must say.
But I guess I can somehow forgive them, since - and this brings me to the new-new characters - Isaak is awesome. Of all the characters which are not Dexter, I think Ray Stevenson's Isaak really stole the show this season. On the outside he was this tough, threatening, fearless mobster, but as the season went on we also saw his sensitive, human side. His scenes with Michael were a sheer pleasure to watch, and after the one at the gay bar I decided he would make one hell of a Bond villain. Thank you, Isaak, for being a major reason this season was so great.
The other new character was Yvonne Strahovski's Hannah. She was kinda the opposite from Issak - in the beginning she looked just like a pretty girl who was a naive victim of her boyfriend's bloody hobby; but turned out to be pretty dark herself. But I liked her. She had some great scenes with Dexter, and with Deb as well. Plus, you know you're awesome when your dad is Supernatural's Jim Beaver.
3. Better Writing - Again, the whole LaGuerta thing kinda bugged me, plus the sudden death of characters. Another weird thing was Deb's confession to Dex about her feelings to him in "Argentina". Am I the only one to whom it seemed kind of out-of-the-blue? And even after it happened, it didn't really effect anything. Well, maybe Deb's actions in the seasons' final minutes. By the way, I'm surprised at all the reviews claiming it was a "twist ending". Like I said, I pretty much saw it coming since a few episodes earlier. Maybe it wasn't exactly as I imagined, but I knew Deb was gonna kill her to defend Dex.
Also, some characters were just neglected. For example, Harrison, Dexter's freakin' son. Sure, Jamie's his babysitter and all, but what about the days Dexter stayed with Deb? Jamie looked after Harrison 24/7? And when they remembered he does exist, they sent him away with his grandparents or something, anything to get rid of him. Also, why do they keep Matthews around? He doesn't seem to do much, does he?
4. More Blasts from the Past - I gotta give it them here. Aside from Miguel (and Lumen, I think ) there were references to pretty much everything from past seasons - Rudy, the Butcher case, Rita, Trinity, Travis. But they saved the best for last, and in the finale with the oh-so-fitting title we got...Doakes! Seeing Erik King again was awesome, and reminded me why Doakes is one of my favorite all-time characters. His flashbacks scenes were without doubt the highlights of the finale, and I loved every second of them. Can we get more flashbacks next season too, please? Or better yet - Zombie Doakes!
5. Interesting Side Plots - Let's talk about the elephant in the room here - Quinn. And it's not just in this season. Seems like the writers don't really know what to do with him, so they just give him some bullsh*t side plots. This time he fell in love with a stripper (really?), and was pretty much George's little pet until he finally grew some balls. At one point I thought he might also die by the season's end, but he lives to be useless for another day. Oh, Quinn....How did we come to this?
So that's pretty much it. Sure, this season had it's flaws, but I loved it. Now I can only hope the last season (What? Oh, there' just....something in my eye) will be just as good, if not better. Goodbye, Dexter. See you again in about 9 months.
If you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them. What did you think of the season? What are you theories for the next? Any guest stars you'd like to see? (I would love to see Mark Sheppard on the show. Or Michael Rosenbaum).
