Wow! Truly a spectacular end to the first season of CIA.
The timeline of this episode kept me glued to my screen for the full 43 minutes. I loved that we got to see Colin and Toni together before everything went down. The only thing that doesn’t seem necessarily plausible is that Colin wouldn’t have checked if Toni had died in the explosion. I know he knew that she should be there but if she was the love of his life then surely he would have tried to track down every lead he had to find who did it, including DNA evidence.
I did really like that we got to see a new side to Colin, we normally get the hard shelled appearance but he fully wore his heart on his sleeve this episode. Even when Toni had a gun pointed at him he still was gentle with her, his heart clearly still belongs to her. I also really enjoyed Colin making sure that he was saving Sarah too. Even if he doesn’t want to admit it, Sarah and he did have something real.
Bill toed the line of the grey area this episode. Realistically he knew that Colin wouldn’t overstep with Harry but even the fact that he entertained the idea of intimidating him was something new we haven’t seen from him before. Obviously he still had his moral compass in check for the majority of this episode, making sure that Colin didn’t beat the man on the roof with the shovel. It was hard to tell whether that was pent up anger that he was letting or if he was genuinely trying to protect Bill, possibly a little bit of both.
The usage of cuts this episode were on point, I truly thought that Toni had shot Colin in the house when the scene was cut off. When we came back and saw that in fact she had actually shot Harry, I was truly shocked.
One of my favourite parts of the episode was in one of the last scenes after Colin was shot and he’s explaining the he thinks the shot hit his rib and Sarah said “ at least you don’t have to worry about it bouncing off your heart” and Bill compounded it admitting that it was a funny joke whilst also trying to bundle everyone into the boat was hilarious. It added some much needed levity to the situation without making it cheap.
At the end of the episode Jubal offers Bill the job of ADIC and that entire sequence felt like a really great way to end the season. It showed how far Bill and Colin have come since the start of the season. It’s not entirely clear whether Bill is turning down the job as ADIC but I do think it will make an interesting start to next season to see where the new partners land.
This first season of CIA was incredibly gripping and very quickly became one of my favourite shows to watch. I can’t wait to see what is in store for us next season!
