Murphy also said his schedule keeps changing to shoot Feud: Buckingham Palace, which centers on Price Charles and Princess Diana. He is eying an October start date but said that he can’t go out to actors until he nails down dates.
“The next one is about Charles and Diana,” he confirmed at an FX’ Emmy event in Los Angeles tonight. “We are shooting I think in the late fall and I’m casting Charles and Diana.”
“I think having a show called Feud is interesting,” Murphy said, “because I love when Kathy (Bates, as Joan Blondell) says feuds are about pain. So Charles and Diana’s story literally begins with filing the divorce papers. It’s about that pain of the dissolving of a fairy tale, particularly for Diana. It starts with the filing of divorce papers and takes you up until her death.”
Asked whether Sarandon and Lange will also have roles in the next season, Murphy said, “Always, always.”
Murphy is in the midst of finding his Diana for Season 2, and said he is currently taking meetings. “It’s all going to be new people,” he said. “It’s a whole new crowd.”
Never one to play it safe, Murphy made it clear that he wouldn’t tread lightly even for royalty. “I think when people tackle the royal family, a lot of times they tread on eggshells and she didn’t,” he said. Murphy told PEOPLE he would be taking Diana’s lead in that sense, “of how she lived her life.”
