As expected, the return of “24” on Fox, themed “Live Another Day,” was not as strong as its most recent season-opener in January 2010. “24,” headlined by Kiefer Sutherland, scored a very respectable 5.8 rating/9 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 87 percent above Fox’s week-ago combination of a repeat of “Bones” (2.8/ 4 on April 28) and the sophomore season-finale of “The Following” (3.4/ 5). And it resulted in diminished overnight results on competing ABC, CBS and NBC. But versus the two-hour debut for its eighth season on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, “24” dropped by 23 percent. And compared to the 7.7/11 for its Monday return on Jan. 18, 2010, this was down by 25 percent. In other words, “24” was positive, but by no means a record.
In season finale news, sitcom “2 Broke Girl” on CBS concluded with a fourth-place 4.8/ 8 at 8 p.m., which was six percent below one week earlier (5.1/ 8 on April 28). Next was recent entry “Friends With Better Lives” at a 3.8/ 6 at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 21 percent, followed by “Mike & Molly” at a 4.9/ 7 at 9 p.m. Encores of “Mom” (#4: 3.4/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.) and a Monday 10 p.m. edition of “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#3: 2.8/ 5 at 10 p.m.) capped off the night for the Eye net.
Over at ABC, two-hours of “Dancing With the Stars” topped the night in the overnights with a 9.0/14 in households from 8-10 p.m. But it will not, of course, be able to top competing “The Voice” on NBC (#2: 6.7/10) or aforementioned “24: Live Another Day” on Fox in the key demos.
Tops at 10 p.m. was NBC’s “The Blacklist” (6.5/11), which is expected to be put to much needed use on another evening next season (Thursday, perhaps), followed by “Castle” on ABC at a second-place 5.8/10.
Given the competitive environment last night. CW dramas “Star-Crossed” and the season (or series) finale of “The Tomorrow People” could only muster a 0.8/ 1 in the overnights each.

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
