Jason, “Orange is the New Black” is an incredible series! What can you tell us about your role as Officer Herrmann on the show?
Herrmann first appears in the season 5 finale as a no nonsense leader of the CERT team, that comes into the prison and ends the riot. In season 6, his role continues and develops into a major antagonist.

How did you prepare for your role as Officer Herrmann?
I thought about what this man wants, his goals and what he is trying to achieve. I thought about how he feels about the women he was interacting with. I also gave myself a little backstory about him, and I thought about the actions he takes to try and achieve his objective.

Did you face any challenges while playing this role?
Not really, although the first episode I worked on was very physically demanding!

“Orange is the New Black” is packed with talented actresses and actors, what was it like working with these amazing people?
It was a great experience. They were all so welcoming, professional, and easy to work with.

Do you have any favorite moments from the set that you can share with us?
Well I play a bad guy, so between takes of my scene in the season 6 finale when I beat up Caputo, the whole crew started booing me. That was a good moment.

What was your favorite scene to film?
I think the scene I have in the season 6 premiere, framing the women for the murder of Piscatella. It was such a great monologue that Jenji Kohan had written for me.

In addition to “Orange is the New Black,” you have several upcoming projects. What can we look forward to seeing from you next?
I have a role on the next season of ELEMENTARY, but that won’t be airing until next spring. Other than that, back to the grind of auditions.

Tell us one interesting fact about you that your fans don’t already know!
Herrmann, my character’s name, is named after executive producer Tara Herrmann.

Jason, thank you so much for your time. We’ve really enjoyed our time with you and we look forward to watching you on “Orange is the New Black” as well as your future projects!
