Ingress: The Animation - Animated Series Coming to Netflix This October

“Ingress,” the original mobile phone augmented reality game created by the team behind “Pokemon Go,” is getting its own animated series this fall, company founder John Hanke told Variety.

“Ingress: The Animation” will created by animation studio Crafter under the direction of noted computer-graphics artist Yuhei Sakuragi and with character design by “Neon Genesis Evangelion’s” art director Takeshi Honda. Fuji TV is working with Netflix to deliver the anime worldwide.

“The anime peers into the ‘Ingress’ universe and allows viewers to see a part of that universe that is uniquely expressed,” Hanke said in an interview earlier this week.

The show takes place in the world of “Ingress” where exotic matter is leaking into the world through portals. That matter can influence people in different ways. Some gain a sort of super mental power. The show focuses on Makoto and Sarah, two people impacted by the matter. Makoto can touch things and see their history. Sarah can see certain aspects of time and space. The two are thrown together after something happens to Sarah and Makoto, who is a police officer, is brought in to figure it out. The duo end up on the run together away from a third, mysterious character named Jack. The three get pulled into Ingress’ Enlightened versus Resistance battle, but are also trying to figure out the motives behind a corporation that seems to be abusing exotic matter to experiment on humans and do “bad things,” Hanke said. This new antagonist will also appear in the new “Ingress” game.

Lost - Evangeline Lilly Not Interested in Reboot

“There’s a rumor every year that they are going to reboot Lost,” the actress says. “The thing about reboots and remakes is that I don’t like them in general, period. I want people to leave Star Wars alone! I did love Rogue One, as an aside. But for the most part, I don’t usually love them. I feel like it’s just tainting something that’s precious. I’ve said I don’t want to do things in the past and I’ve done them — you know, never say never — but sitting where I am today, my assumption is no.”

MOVIES: Child's Play - Chucky the Doll Remake in Development with It Producers

MGM is remaking Child’s Play, the 1980s horror movie centering on a toy doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer, with It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith.

MGM is fast-tracking the project, which has Lars Klevberg, the Norwegian filmmaker behind the horror movie Polaroid, in the director’s chair as it heads toward a production start in Vancouver this September.

Tyler Burton Smith — who has written video games and wrote Kung Fury 2, now in production — penned the script.

Directed by '80s and '90s horror mainstay Tom Holland and co-created by Don Mancini, Child's Play told the story of a popular toy doll named Chucky that becomes possessed and terrorizes a single mom and her son, as the killer needs the son’s body to jump into before his transference to the doll becomes permanent.

MOVIES: Psych: The Sequel - On Hold Due to Stars Conflicting Filming Schedules

Although a rep for USA/UCP declined to comment, TVLine has learned that talks had been underway to potentially shoot a second movie later this year. But the pic was pushed due to scheduling conflicts with leads James Roday and Dule Hill (Roday stars in the new ABC drama A Million Little Things, while Hill is busy with USA’s Suits, where he was recently promoted to a series regular).

I hear USA/UCP remain interested in making the unofficially-titled Psych: The Sequel, provided a production window opens up that works for the franchise’s main players.

MOVIES: Fast and Furious Spinoff - Vanessa Kirby to Co-Star

With her reign as Princess Margaret on Netflix’s acclaimed series “The Crown” officially over, Vanessa Kirby is taking her talents to the big screen. The British actress is in final negotiations to star opposite Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in “Fast and Furious” spinoff, “Hobbs and Shaw.”

“Deadpool 2” director David Leitch is on board to helm with Johnson and Statham reprising their roles of special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw, respectively. Kirby will play an MI-5 agent and Shaw’s sister.

“Fast and Furious” architect Chris Morgan penned the script with production set to commence this fall. Plot details are vague, but the central idea is that the film would see the often-at-odds duo team up. Johnson, Statham, and “Fast and Furious” producer Neal Moritz will produce.

MOVIES: Top Gun: Maverick - Miles Teller to Co-Star

Miles Teller will star opposite Tom Cruise in the long-in-the works sequel that sees Cruise reprising his role as the hotshot pilot with the call sign Maverick.

Joseph Kosinski, who directed Cruise in sci-fi thriller Oblivion, is directing the movie, which is also bringing back Val Kilmer's rival pilot code-named Iceman.

Teller beat out Nicholas Hoult and Glen Powell for the role. Dylan O'Brien and Austin Butler were among those in the mix in a previous stage.

Teller will now play the son of Maverick's wingman and best pal, Goose. Played by Anthony Edwards in the Tony Scott-directed original, the character provided an emotional spine to the movie when he is killed by accident and Maverick blames himself.

MOVES: The Many Saints of Newark - Alan Taylor, to Direct The Sopranos Prequel

Think that Sopranos prequel doesn’t have a director yet? Fuggedaboutit. Alan Taylor, who helmed multiple episodes of the original HBO series along with Game of Thrones and the feature sequels Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys, has landed the gig.

As Deadline reported exclusively in March, New Line bought a screenplay penned by The Sopranos creator David Chase and Lawrence Konner, who also wrote episodes of the HBO mob drama starring James Gandolfini. The Many Saints of Newark is the working title for a feature prequel set in the era of the 1960s race riots in that New Jersey city.

MOVIES: Little Women - Greta Gerwig Eyeing Retelling of Classic as Next Project with Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet in Talks to Star

Following her critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated “Lady Bird,” Greta Gerwig is eyeing “Little Women” as her next directing gig.

A-listers Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet are in talks to star in Columbia Pictures’ retelling of the American classic with Florence Pugh also in talks to star. The movie would mark a reunion for Gerwig, Ronan and Chalamet. The young actors starred in 2017’s coming-of-age comedy “Lady Bird.”

The roles are unknown at this time as some castings are still being worked out. Sources tell Variety the studio is expected to test a handful of actresses opposite Stone for the role of Beth before the July 4 holiday.
