CityTV Press Releases

– Citytv brings drama to the 10 p.m. slot with A Million Little Things and Manifest –
– Citytv adds hottest reboots Murphy Brown and The Twilight Zone to its lineup –

– Bart and Homer are heading to Citytv, with the addition of The Simpsons on Sundays –

– Citytv’s #1 hit reality and awards shows, America’s Got Talent and the GRAMMYs®, return with multi-year deals, alongside 16 powerhouse renewals for the 2018/19 season –

TORONTO (June 5, 2018) – Imagine a prime-time schedule packed with more programming that stirs excitement and captures the hearts of Canadian TV lovers. Today Rogers Media unveils Citytv’s 2018/19 schedule, anchored by last season’s proven hits and strengthened by highly-anticipated buzzy new shows. Rick Brace, President of Rogers Media, Colette Watson, Senior Vice President of Television & Broadcast Operations, together with the executive team, will present Citytv’s new Fall and midseason schedules to advertisers and media this afternoon at Toronto’s iconic Massey Hall.

The new Citytv schedule boasts 11 new shows, the return of 16 fan favourites, 3 live events and specials, and underscores a renewed investment in the 10 p.m. timeslot with two nights of compelling new dramas. While Hockey Night in Canada reigns supreme on Saturday nights, viewers will discover exciting new shows every other night of the week during the 2018/19 season.

“Canadians love TV. Last year, more than 30 million Canadians watched television every week, and they currently spend nearly 10x more time watching TV than they do browsing social platforms – that’s because TV delivers an experience unmatched by any other entertainment medium,” said Brace. “TV is the place where Canadians come for an immersive and emotional connection to characters and stories, and where advertisers have the greatest reach and impact. That’s the power of television.”

“We have created the strongest schedule in Citytv’s history, delivering more of what viewers want,” added Watson. “We know viewers tune in for family and friendship, to see trailblazing women who spark greatness, action and intrigue with unpredictable plot twists, and stories of everyday people who make us laugh, cry, and capture our imagination. Our 2018/19 season delivers a dynamic mix of comedy, drama and reality series, and the result is a pure entertainment schedule that reflects our Citytv brand.”

Stories with Heart:

Whether bonded by blood or by choice, the power of family and friendship runs deep through Citytv’s 2018/19 lineup, with dramas and live-event programming that explore these complicated, messy, and tender relationships with the people who – for better or worse – matter the most. Rocked by the sudden loss of one of their own, Boston friends support each other through love, loss, and life in A Million Little Things – the fall season’s most anticipated breakout hit drama. New drama Manifest explores the unsettling lives of the long-missing passengers and crew of Montego Air Flight 828 as they try to understand what happened to them – and what they’re meant to do with second chances. Parenthood is tough – and family life in the Marvel Universe is no exception when mom and dad discover their kids have mutant super powers in the new-to-Citytv family adventure The Gifted. And renegades with retro style are coming to Citytv this Fall, as the code-cracking crime-solving Bletchley women take their formidable skills stateside to tackle new mysteries in the Citytv original The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco.

Lighten Up:

Life is tough, take a break and laugh-it-out with another season of celebrated Citytv comedies! In one of the most anticipated comedy reboots of the year, Murphy Brown returns to FYI News – two decades later – bringing her whip-smart newsroom skills and biting wit into today’s era of ‘fake news’, 24/7 cable news cycles, and social media. Thirty years in, The Simpsons is still making audiences laugh-out-loud with their irreverent take on the world today. Bart, Homer, Marge and the gang are bringing their outrageous antics to Citytv this Fall. Single Parents finds the funny in navigating parenthood alone…except for those well-meaning, nosy, pushy fellow single parent friends determined to ‘help’. If you ever wondered what became of those rowdy kids at the back of the class, The Cool Kids are wreaking havoc in their retirement community – because growing old with dignity is for chumps! And in new comedy Rel, Rel becomes a single, long-distance dad after discovering his wife’s affair – with his own barber – and he’s not sure which loss is the bigger blow.

A Dose of ‘Reality’:

A new perspective can change the world. This season, Citytv brings audiences stories of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, people transformed by events and inspired to do more and be more. In midseason, a contemporary take on a dramatic sci-fi classic, The Twilight Zone returns, reimagined with metaphorical stories for a modern era by Get Out director Jordan Peele. From reality TV heavyweights Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell, Citytv celebrates incredible talent in The World’s Best – a global competition show with a twist.

Fan Favourites:

Proven hits and fan favourites return as Citytv confirms the renewal of 16 prime-time series, delivering more laugh-out-loud moments, dramatic plot twists, and thrilling competition through the 2018/19 season. Returning series are Citytv’s #1 show America’s Got Talent, his-and-hers The Bachelor / The Bachelorette franchise, Canadian mob thriller and Citytv original Bad Blood, Black-ish, Bob’s Burgers, fan favourite Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dancing with the Stars, Family Guy, Hell’s Kitchen, Hockey Night in Canada, Lethal Weapon, Life in Pieces, Modern Family, Mom, and last year’s breakout comedy hit The Orville.

The iconic New Year’s Eve countdown celebration Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards® also return to Citytv this season. Then in 2019, an all-new live musical production of the Tony Award-, Grammy Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent brings the unforgettable story of friendship, love, and hope among seven struggling artists in New York’s gritty East Village to a whole new audience.

All programming is available on Citytv.com and on mobile through the City Video app for iOS and Android, and on all Citytv+ digital platforms launching this Fall. Premiere dates will be announced soon; shows not listed on the Fall schedule below will be announced at a later date.

TORONTO, June 4, 2018 – Today Global unveiled its 2018-2019 rock-solid primetime lineup featuring two highly sought-after new dramas, four fresh comedies, and one new family-friendly reality show. Combining strong, character-driven dramas with compelling storytelling and light-hearted and relatable comedies, the new series join the network’s 20 returning fall hits to round out its robust fall schedule with 17 hours of simulcast – the highest number of simulcast hours Global has ever achieved on record.

The seven new series joining Global’s 2018-2019 programming schedule include:

FBI – From the incomparable Emmy® Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, this fast-paced drama centres on the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and stars Canadian Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue), Zeeko Zaki (Valor), Jeremy Sisto (Suburgatory) and Ebonée Noel (Wrecked).

New Amsterdam – Touted as one of the most anticipated new fall series, comes a heartfelt, character-driven medical drama starring The Blacklist’s Ryan Eggold and based on New York City’s historic Bellevue Hospital, the oldest public hospital in America.

The Neighborhood – A hilarious new comedy starring the charismatic actor and comedian Cedric the Entertainer (Barber Shop) as an opinionated neighbour who is wary of his new neighbours (Max Greenfield, New Girl).

Happy Together – Starring one of the most in-demand actors from pilot season, Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl), and Amber Stevens West (Ghosted), this new comedy follows a 30-something happily married couple who begin to reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when an exuberant young pop star unexpectedly moves in with them.

I Feel Bad – Executive produced by the multi-talented actress, comedian, director, and writer Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), this new family comedy stars Sarayu Blue (No Tomorrow) as a mom, boss, friend, wife and daughter who is perfectly okay with being imperfect.

Dancing with the Stars: Juniors – A new take on an established favourite, the reality series pairs celebrity kids with professional junior ballroom dancers to perform choreographed routines, which will be judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts.

Abby’s (midseason) – From the producers of The Good Place comes a hilariously aspirational new comedy about the best bar in San Diego – home to good prices, great company and of course, Abby! Filmed outdoors in front of a live studio audience, this ensemble comedy features Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation) and Neil Flynn (The Middle).

“This year we secured the most coveted new drama New Amsterdam, and focussed on selecting new programming that complements our strong roster of established hits,” said Maria Hale, Senior Vice President, Global Entertainment & Content Acquisition, Corus Entertainment. “Creating a well-balanced schedule with compelling dramas, new comedy lineups, and some of the best reality series, Global is positioned for a successful fall season.”

GLOBAL’S FALL 2018-2019 SCHEDULE

Mondays – Global kicks off the week with an all-new Monday night lineup, including a new comedy block with The Neighborhood and Happy Together, followed by last winter’s break-out hit 9-1-1, and Top 10 series Bull, which garnered an average of nearly two million viewers (2+) each week* in its sophomore run.

Tuesdays – High-octane drama takes over Tuesday nights with franchise heavyweights NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS, paired with Global’s new dramas, the Dick Wolf executive produced FBI and character-driven medical drama New Amsterdam.

Wednesdays – Last fall’s established Wednesday night lineup remains strong and intact with the #1 reality series Survivor* returning for a 37th season called Survivor David vs. Goliath, emotionally gripping Top 20 series SEAL Team*, and fan favourite Chicago P.D.

Thursdays – Global’s two-hour comedy block kicks off with a laugh as the loveable workplace comedy Superstore returns, followed by the delightfully clever The Good Place, Top 10 hit revival Will & Grace*, and newcomer I Feel Bad, all leading into the action-packed series S.W.A.T.

Fridays – Starring Canadian François Arnaud, last summer’s new supernatural thriller Midnight, Texas joins Global’s Friday night powerhouse series MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0.

Saturdays – Emmy® Award-winning and Canada’s #1 late-night show*, Saturday Night Live returns for a ground-breaking 44th season.

Sundays – Global ends the week with a show stopper as Dancing with the Stars: Juniors joins Sunday night standouts NCIS: Los Angeles and political drama Madam Secretary.

MIDSEASON

The momentum continues into Global’s midseason lineup as last winter’s big juggernaut reality series Big Brother: Celebrity Edition and fan-favourite Big Brother Canada return for more must-see moments and outrageous houseguest antics. Both series were ratings champions for the network with Big Brother: Celebrity Edition becoming the most-watched entertainment series during the Olympics***, leading into Big Brother Canada, which grew audiences from its previous season, most notably with a 21% increase in the coveted A18-34 demo**.

The new year also welcomes a variety of compelling and thought-provoking dramas including the third and final chapter of the Canadian Screen Award-winning series Mary Kills People. Additional returning dramas include a new season of international hit Private Eyes, which is currently sold in 110 territories worldwide, the second season of critically acclaimed Instinct, starring Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic, and Season 7 of modern Sherlock Holmes series Elementary.

Rounding out the midseason lineup is new comedy Abby’s starring Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation) joining Global’s hit comedies including the sophomore season of A.P. Bio, produced by Seth Meyers, and Season 3 of family comedy Man With a Plan.

Rather that creating lots of new posts as new info is released and fragmenting the commentary, we thought it would be a good idea for the upcoming major movies to create a single post for each major movies that will collate all the info as it's posted.

New items will be added to the top of the list as well as the post being re-posted back to the top of the homepage when a new item is added. We will additionally send out a fresh tweet alerting you of the new information.

This will allow you to bookmark this page so that you can return to it whenever you like. It will also help consolidate all the discussion on this movie in a central place and make it less likely that you'll miss some key information.
