'Awakening' Preview

The first part of the episode deals with freak occurences that happen at the same time to three different people whose eyes suddenly turn white and something demonic happens with them before they seemingly return to normal. There's a really good connection to what's happened in the past on the show involving some characters that haven't been around in a long time. Fortunately, Abbie and Ichabod are on the case and they are literally never apart in this episode... until the end. There's no time for breathing in this episode once it all kicks off so Abbie and Ichabod are literally on their feet for most of this episode.

"Sometimes old school is the best school."

All descendants of the covens in Sleepy Hollow will be affected by the Liberty Bell, so there's potential for mass chaos. If Katrina rings it, the power will be unleashed and Henry appeals to her. We already know she's heading down a dark path, yet Henry is appealing to her want for family. A few people's minds will be at ease who thought Katrina would be the "damsel-in-distress" and be forced to choose this path, but that's not the case. It's free will, her choice. That's not to say she hasn't been manipulated by Henry, but there is nothing forcing her to be Evil Katrina. Will she see the error of her ways? I don't know, but the power of her son holds strong on her heart. What a mother wouldn't do, right? The dark path seems a bit confusing right now and the things Katrina says and does do not reflect anything she's stood for in the past. There's huge contradictions, even if it is her choice. It's clear she loves her son but can we take her at face value?

That's not to say Ichabod doesn't share his feelings with Henry who we all know has abandonment issues. You'll find yourself punching the air with what Ichabod says to him as he's so right. Abbie and Ichabod work so brilliantly together yet again, even when it appears hope is lost for them when they're tied to a stake. Oh, how the tables turned. But, they turn the tables themselves and it leads to a great scene between the four characters. There is an explosion that we saw in the promo for the episode which has you gasping. Believe me, I knew it was coming but I was still shocked. The episode ends with Abbie and Ichabod torn apart from each other. I'm unsure how people will feel about this episode but I thought it was a mixed bag of emotions. It felt fast, that's for sure. I enjoyed the episode but I have some burning feelings about it too. To be fair, I'm not entirely sure how I feel. Gah, I'm confused. But in a good way.

"This is wrong on so many levels."

Earlier in the episode, Irving attacks the group which causes Jenny to depart from Abbie and Ichabod to deal with Irving so they can continue the mission. There's a fantastic shoot-out between the two who seem to be paired together for the second episode in a row. It leads to an awesome chase scene in the tunnels beneath the Archives and you will fear for Jenny. Irving isn't Irving anymore and he's going to find out what Jenny has done with his family one way or the other.

Bottom line: You cannot miss this episode!

'Awakening' Teasers

- The Gorgan's head may or may not make an appearance.
- We are treated to a flashback to 1773.
- Ichabod with a power drill and a head-bopping garden gnome - enough said.
- You'll be saying "oh shit" a couple of times.
- Ichabod chooses duty while Katrina chooses family.
- That major character death? Yeah, it happens in this episode.
- It appears for one character, there's no redemption. Katrina? Irving? Henry?
- That finale synopsis FOX released? You might want to think about that for a second.
