-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Tuesday overnight victory for CBS, which bested No. 2 NBC by 25 percent. But the home of “The Voice,” which featured another two-hour installment, will win the evening in adults 18-49 (and other key young demos). ABC suffered noticeable losses, Fox cannot compete, and The CW is still in hiding.
“NCIS,” which featured the departure of Cote de Pablo, topped the night with a 12.5 rating/20 share in the overnights at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was six percent above the 11.8/19 one year earlier, and it led into a solid second-place 9.5/15 for “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 9 p.m. Next was relocated “Person of Interest,” which dominated the 10 p.m. hour with an 8.3/15. Comparably, that was eight percent above failed year-ago occupant “Vegas” (7.7/13 on 10/02/12) but 12 percent below its year-ago performance in the Thursday 9 p.m. hour (9.4/15 on 10/04/12).
Over at ABC, week-to-week slippage was significant at an average 30 percent. Week two of highly touted drama “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” dipped to a 5.6/ 9 in the overnights at 8 p.m. And that was 27 percent below the 7.7/12 it debuted with on Sept. 24 (which translated into 12.12 million viewers and a 4.7 rating/14 share among adults 18-49, based on the live plus same day data). While “S.H.I.E.L.D.” will certainly easily beat year-ago occupant “Dancing With the Stars” in the young adult demos, it is poised for third in the time period among adults 18-49 behind “The Voice” and “NCIS.” Let’s see what happens next week.
At 9 p.m., week two of sitcom “The Goldbergs” fell to a 4.3/ 7 (#3), which was 28 percent below the 6.0/ 9 for its debut one week earlier. And that caused week two of lead-out “Trophy Wife” to slip to a 3.3/ 5 (#3) at 9:30 p.m., which was 30 percent below the 4.7/ 7 for its opener one week earlier. To put this into perspective, both “The Goldbergs” and “Trophy Wife” were only on par with the season-opening installments of former failed sitcom occupants “Happy Endings” and “Don’t Trust the B____ in Apt. 23” on 10/23/12. That said, there is certainly nothing to boast about.
Week two of ABC drama “Lucky 7,” meanwhile, was off the charts at an embarrassing 2.0/ 3 in the overnights at 10 p.m. (distant #3), which dropped by 35 percent from its already DOA debut one week earlier (3.1/ 5 on Sept. 24). One year earlier, “Private Practice” scored a 4.8/ 8 in this hour on 10/02/12. “Lucky 7,” needless to say, is in serious contention to be the first casualty of the new TV season.
On NBC, two-hours of aforementioned “The Voice” scored a hefty 9.4/15 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which outdelivered the year-ago combination of a recap edition of “The Voice” and failed sitcoms “Go On” and “The New Normal” by an average 84 percent. And it lifted relocated lead-out “Chicago Fire,” which is expected to win the 10 p.m. hour again in adults 18-49, to a solid second-place 5.6/10. Comparably, “Chicago Fire” built from year-ago occupant “Parenthood” (3.6/ 6 on 10/02/12) by 56 percent. Count on a long run for “Chicago Fire.”
Fox, unfortunately, slipped by 14 percent from its already lackluster Tuesday average one week earlier with its combination of “Dads” (#4: 2.3/ 4; -18 percent), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 2.5/ 4; -19 percent), demo friendly “New Girl” (#4: 2.9/ 5; – 6 percent) and should-not-have-been renewed “The Mindy Project” (#4: 2.1/ 3; -12 percent). And that, overall, was down by 14 percent from the year-ago line-up of “Raising Hope,” “Ben and Kate,” “New Girl” and “The Mindy Project.”
Last, and very least, was night two of the “iHeartradio Music Festival” on The CW at a 0.9/ 1 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m.

About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the
Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the
Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)
