NBC 2.1/ 4
CW 0.6/ 1

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 3/14/12:
Fox: +40, CBS: + 3, ABC: no change, CW: -40, NBC: -45

“NCIS” R (CBS), “NCIS: Los Angeles” R (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” (NBC), “The Taste” (ABC), “Smash” (NBC)

-Ratings Breakdown:
Despite airing two-hours of repeats, it was an easy overnight Tuesday victory for CBS, which bested No. 2 Fox by 2.8 rating points. But Fox could be the network to beat among adults 18-49 courtesy of young adult demo favorite “Hell’s Kitchen,” which returned with a typical 4.2/ 7 from 8-10 p.m.

An encore of “NCIS” on CBS was the top-rated option of the evening, with an 8.1/14 from 8-9 p.m. Next was compatible “NCIS: Los Angeles” at an also dominant 7.5/12 at 9 p.m. And the third Tuesday 10 p.m. telecast of “Golden Boy” also topped its time period, with a 5.5/10. But retention for “Golden Boy” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of the “NCIS: Los Angeles” encore (7.4/12) was lacking at 74 percent. And the expected older audience skew is not expected to bode well for renewal. CBS…enough with the cookie-cutter crime solvers.

On ABC, episode three of the new season of “Celebrity Wife Swap” perked up to a second-place 4.1/ 7 in the overnights at 8 p.m. (which tied the first half of competing “Hell’s Kitchen”). Comparably, that was 17 percent above the 3.5/ 5 from one week earlier. But the season (or series) finale of cooking competition “The Taste” dipped to third, with a 2.8/ 5 in the overnights at 9 p.m. And that, no doubt, will not bode well for renewal.

Older-skewing “Body of Proof” on ABC rose to second, with a 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m. And that was, comparably, 68 percent above lead-in “The Taste.”

Elsewhere, NBC had another abysmal Tuesday showing (minus “The Voice”) with its line-up of two episodes (repeat and original) of “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” (8 p.m.: #4, 2.5/ 4; 8:30 p.m.: #4: 2.4/ 4), repeats of “Go On” (#4: 1.9/ 3) and “The New Normal” (#4: 1.6/ 3) from 9-10 p.m., and sophomore “Smash” (#3: 2.3/ 4). The moral of the “Smash” story: Good intentions do no always results in an audience. As for “Go On” and “The New Normal” minus the lead-in support from “The Voice”: Yes, lead-in still matters.

The CW capped off this second Tuesday in March with encores of “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 0.7/ 1), which is 50/50 on renewal for next season, and a repeat of “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.5/ 1).
