Wow, what incredible end to an insane season. All 21 episodes of this season were absolutely spectacular. Not one episode missed the mark on feeding the viewers the best television.
I loved how the season started with Imani and also ended with her storyline too. That last scene between her and Voight was so powerful. So few words were said but a complete conversation was had in facial expressions and terse nods.
The episode picked up immediately from the last episode, giving us a sense of what was about to happen in the first few seconds of the episode.
I think it was incredibly poignant that Voight was able to notice that Shari was no longer the Shari that Imani knew but Imani was too close to see it. Regardless of how he knew Imani would feel he tracked down information behind her back. I was definitely shocked when Imani refused to listen to Voight and took Shari back to her apartment. His voice was very obviously serious but Imani let her personal feelings dictate what she did.
I knew right from the moment that Shari ‘changed’ after seeing her old things that she was setting Imani up. No one changes their mind about their Father/Husband who they’ve been with since they were six in a matter of moments because they saw a teddy bear they used to have when they were barely old enough to remember anything. Even just the fact that she thought it was okay that her adoptive father was her now husband showed just how badly she had been brainwashed by Kirby.
Voight went back to his old ways when he found Kirby and it seems like the team will possibly have to cover up what happened again. The bond within the team is immensely strong but I think this was the first time that Imani saw the true Voight. The rest of the team has been used to this for nearly ten years but Imani is used to a Voight that stays up late to help find her sister.
Despite the fact that Imani was barely conscious, the words from Kirby of “ this is no different than with Lila” cut her deep. I do wonder if this is the first time that we will see Voight cover for Imani like he has done for the rest of the team before or if he will turn Shari in. Although his small nod after the question of her being charged with murder possibly leads to him turning her in.
The next season of Chicago PD is already set up to be another great one, we have the Shari/Imani, Burzek moving house, Kevin becoming a father and so many other storylines waiting to be played out of the course of it. I cannot wait to have new episodes!
