Although the hospital’s systems are back online and the night shift is ready to take over, the day staff cannot leave just yet. Before checking out, they still have unfinished business to deal with.

Episode Summary
Mel comforts Langdon as he begins to doubt his abilities, while Whitaker helps Ogilvie through a difficult moment. Al-Hashimi experiences another episode of dissociation — one that does not go unnoticed by Robby. Meanwhile, Mohan appears to be reaching her limit, and Dana confronts Robby about his growing obsession with everything happening around him, ending the conversation with a shocking remark.

Cases of the Week
Dana asks Emma to help improve Digby’s appearance by shaving him and cutting his hair. During the process, he shares details about himself and his family. Startled by how different he looks and afraid his loved ones will not recognize him, Digby is reassured by Emma, who once again proves that, despite her lack of experience, she has a remarkable sense of empathy.

This hour, McKay treats Mrs. Davis, a super healthy woman who has developed mysterious liver damage. Unable to identify the cause, Cassie turns to Santos, who, according to her, has a talent for spotting the weird stuff. Although reluctant to help at first because she still has a mountain of charting left to do, Santos quickly discovers the real issue with only a few questions — proving that, without proper guidance, even something meant to help can become harmful.

Highlights
With the arrival of the night shift, doctors such as Ellis, Shen, and Henderson — along with new residents like Nazely — begin taking over from the daytime staff. However, as eager as everyone is to leave, they are forced to stay longer in order to finish charting their patients now that the hospital has fully returned to digital records.

As the shift changes, the staff is also briefed on what happened to Nurse Jesse during the ICE incident. Perlah finds out where he has been taken, and the team even discusses raising money to help bail him out.

Langdon and Mel treat Grady, a teenager with asthma who has been unable to access proper medication after losing Medicaid coverage. When his condition suddenly worsens, Langdon prepares to intubate him. However, they soon discover that Grady has a collapsed lung, meaning intubation could have killed him.

The close call leaves Langdon questioning whether he was truly ready to come back to work. Mel comforts him by sharing her own experience during the deposition and reminding him that doctors do not always get things right immediately.

While discussing Grady’s treatment, Al-Hashimi experiences another dissociative moment, this time in front of Robby. He tries to understand what is causing it, but she avoids giving him a real answer.

As Santos and Whitaker upload patient records, they learn that Mr. Green — the English teacher treated earlier by Mohan and Ogilvie — died in surgery because his abdominal aortic aneurysm was too advanced to save. They cannot help but wonder whether they would have realized what was wrong sooner if the system had been working.

Later, Whitaker has an emotional conversation with Ogilvie about what it means to face death in the ER, recalling his own experience during his first day at The Pitt.

As we saw in the previous episode, Orlando Díaz is readmitted after suffering an accident at work. Mohan becomes even more worried when she discovers that Orlando’s wife, Lorri, had no idea he had previously left the hospital. Ironically — or perhaps not — Orlando is now eligible to receive the medical help he had been denied earlier because of his condition. This leads Robby to suspect that Orlando’s accident may not have been accidental after all.

Both Orlando’s case and Mr. Green’s death continue to push Mohan toward a breaking point.

Mr. Díaz’s case also gives Javadi the chance to prove herself. Robby practically forces her to assist Linda Conley, a renowned neurosurgeon who appears to know Victoria’s parents well.

As if work were not already enough, Robby also has to deal with Duke’s devastating diagnosis. All of this eventually leads to yet another confrontation between him and Dana over what could happen if he leaves. Whether he is gone only for a week — as Noelle believes — or never comes back, as Robby himself suggests, it is clear that he needs to step away, take a break, and rethink both his work and his life.

Character of the Week
Dennis Whitaker: Whitaker has everything it takes to be an ER doctor, beginning with the simple fact that he genuinely wants to be there and is willing to accept both the good and the bad that come with the job. He has also become one of the show’s most reliable characters — always ready to offer either a hand or a shoulder to anyone who needs one.

Final Thoughts
We are getting closer to the end of the season and there are still so many questions left unanswered: what is really happening with Al-Hashimi, what Santos plans to do, and whether Robby is truly going to leave on his motorcycle. Hopefully, the final two hours will finally give us some answers.
