I absolutely adored this first episode of CIA. I was gripped to the screen from the first second to the very last second. This was a really fantastic way to kick off a new show, I can definitely see this being one of my new favourite shows to watch each week.
I think this was a perfect episode to give us knowledge of who the main characters are without giving us too much information that we aren’t looking forward to finding out more about them. I really felt like we were Bill when everyone was being introduced to him by Colin, it was a great way to let us know everyone’s roles within the CIA without it feeling like it was placed there specifically to give us that information.
Colin is definitely a unique character but I think that is part of the charm that is going to fuel this show. It seems like there are a million layers to him and almost everyone sees a different one of those layers. I love the fact that he is British and that they also addressed that, even Jubal was confused which is a perfect cover for a CIA operative. Throughout this episode we got to learn little bits about Colin and despite that tough exterior he clearly has a lot of emotional intelligence and is very much a protector. I can’t wait to see him develop over time and it’s going to be so interesting to see how he changes over time while working with Bill.
Bill is the typical example of what you expect an FBI agent to be and I think that is why this partnership is going to be so creative and fun to watch. Bill very much sees the world as black and white and the fact that Colin is showing him that it’s okay to see and work within the grey is fantastic. Even by the end of the episode he was showing that he was open to changing his perspective on certain things. I’m intrigued to see if any of Colin’s behaviour rubs off on him in further episodes and if so how much does that affect him.
The ending of this episode had me wanting to be able to watch the next episode immediately, clearly Bill has been tasked with a difficult mission of finding a mole within the CIA and you can see on his face that he is proud to have been asked to do that. I am definitely looking forward to seeing how Bill faces that challenge and maybe how he deals with trusting the people he is working with if he is second guessing who is a mole.
Overall this was an amazing kick off to a new show and props to Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss for showing us exactly who Colin and Bill are. I am incredibly excited to see how this partnership unfolds over the season.
