FBI - Blkpill - review : Fabricated injustice

The cold open for this episode was quite creepy. In my opinion having it be first person view was definitely a very good creative choice because it bought you straight into the episode.

Maggie and Joel’s breakfast date was very cute, and I do like the fact that Maggie is seeing someone outside of the FBI and moving on partially from her husband. It didn’t shock me that Joel wanted to talk about her line of work and where he stood with her when she was undercover, and it also didn’t shock me that she didn’t overly want to talk about it.

I like the fact that Maggie spoke about the relationship and how Joel was feeling with OA, even though it was such a small part of the episode it was nice to see the OA and Maggie friendship shine again. It was also very nice to see the big three back together OA, Maggie and Scola.

The team discovered that it was a home-made chemical attack and that there was security footage of the attack. It was definitely a very graphic attack. I do love when OA and Maggie interview people because they have very different styles of interviewing however, they always manage to get what they need out of the interviewee, they notify the family that they know about the brother being on the terror watchlist and that he has been seen on video with an AK-47 and puncher Interpol. The parents deny that their son is a danger.

The parents revealed that the siblings had fought a couple days prior to her death, however at the time I never suspected the brother until he started running away from Maggie. The chase scene bought one of my favourite parts of the episode with Maggie jumping over the fence and having OA stop the man with the car. It was definitely a true show of how much of a power duo they are.

The brother not knowing about his sister’s death was definitely not something I was expecting. I assumed he would’ve at least known about the death; it probably wasn’t the best way for him to find out about his sister’s death. The brother reveals that they had an argument about the dating app that she was using which leads them to the next part of their case about who threatened her on the dating app.

This is where we find out that Patrick is the one that threatened her on the dating apps and that he has also lured another woman to a hotel. When the team arrive, they find that there’s a fire in room 717, which is where the woman was lured to. She was severely injured and died later on the chemical attack. The attack fully changed her appearance because the small clip we saw of her when she was out of the room compared on the gurney to her profile photo was entirely different.

The Jock then finds out that Patrick has been seen by TSA and has been picked up to will be shipped to FBI custody. Patrick definitely didn’t seem like the killer. We find out that Patrick’s images were being used to catfish people by a man called Austin, he had worked at Patrick’s gym until he was recently fired for inappropriate behaviour.

The little room in his apartment that OA and Maggie find, where he makes a chemical definitely showed how crazy he was. A person presumably Austin tries to communicate with them through the laptop and before deleting the information that was on it. This scene was one of my favourite scenes watching OA shout at Maggie for smashing the laptop on the floor. Regardless of what OA thought Maggie had clearly done the right thing as the laptop still had information on that could be recovered.

Austin had logged back onto scorch, which if he knew he was being watched was probably a very stupid idea. He set up a date in Central Park, the team managed to save the girl however they had shots fired at them by supposedly Austin. OA distracted the gunman whilst Scola took him down, when they removed his mask, they realised it wasn’t Austin but instead Jeff, who was Austin‘s partner. I truly did not expect the gunman to not be Austin.

Jeff and Austin bonded over supposed injustice due to women rating them low on the dating app, which forced them to be unable to get future dates. The list of names had to be released by an employee, the runner of the company gave them the name Cody Suarez, he had downloaded them a few days prior and sent them to the pair.

As always it is very high stakes in the FBI world and this was no different. They had Cody shorting at them with a nail gun. Once they caught him and told him what had happen, he seemed remorseful for a moment, before he started to say that it was good that the girls had died, and he hopes that they kill everyone on the list. He turned sinister incredibly quickly.

The pair had created highlight rules of the deaths which was definitely key indications of them not being psychologically sound, but it led to them realising that the creator of scorch was the intended target of their attack. I really liked the takedown at the end of this episode by Maggie.

OA’s conversation with Maggie at the end, alluding to the choice of being alone prompted her to speak to Joel. I like the fact that she’s opening up to Joel and told him about her husband and wanting to figure things out together. Maggie really deserves this.

This was definitely one of my favourite episodes this season.
