Jean Smart (Legion, Fargo) has joined the cast of Damon Lindelof & HBO's Watchmen adaptation per Deadline.
Set in an alternate history where "superheroes" are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
Based on the limited comic series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Damon Lindelof pens the dark, satirical and dystopian take that sees Jean Smart taking on the series regular role of an FBI Agent investigating a murder.
Smart's character isn't being revealed but as Deadline notes, there are reports that she'll be playing Agent Blake as SlashFilm exclusively revealed. Blake is a name familiar to the comics in regards to Edward Blake, aka The Comedian (whom Jeffrey Dean Morgan portrayed in the film adaptation from Zack Snyder). Smart could be playing a relative or it could be just a nod to the character as this interpretation will be a mix of old and new material per Damon Lindelof. Smart could also be an older Laurie Juspeczyk (Silk Spectre), The Comedian's daughter.
Additionally /Film revealed Jeremy Irons will be playing an older Adrian Veidt, the "aging and imperious lord of a British manor" (Ozymandias). Ozymandias was portrayed by Matthew Goode in the film adaptation.
Full details are available per SlashFilm.
Smart joins a cast including James Wolk, Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith and Adelynn Spoon.

Every day 100's of items are submitted to us and we don't always have the time to make separate posts for the news and/or there is so much that it would quickly push all other items off the homepage.
So a result we've come up with the idea of the Newsreel, which will feature smaller shows and news items as they happen.
There will be a new Newsreel each day, and as news is added we will update the post and and push it back to the top of the site so that you can see that new items have been added. A tweet of the item will also be sent to our @SpoilerTV account.
New Items will be listed at the top of the article.
This will allow us to provide more news on more shows in a much more timely fashion
