Uninsured - Family Comedy from The Goldbergs Writer in Development at NBC

NBC has put in development Uninsured, a single-camera comedy from The Goldbergs writer/co-executive producer Dan Levy, executive producer Doug Robinson and Sony Pictures TV.

Written by Levy, Uninsured centers around young parents Dave and Rebecca, who in addition to raising their two kids, end up taking care of Dave’s parents, Elliot and Linda, who have mishandled their finances and need their help to pay down a sizable debt.


Under the Bridge - Doctor Scandal Drama in Development at CBS

In Under the Bridge, penned by Rina Mimoun (Mistresses) , when a scandal rocks the medical practice she runs with her husband and their friends, a surgeon rises to the occasion and takes the lead in trying to mend both the practice and her own marriage.

Can-Can - Cerebral Palsy Comedy Starring Maysoon Zayid in Development at ABC

ABC has given a script commitment plus penalty to Can-Can, a single-camera comedy starring comedian Maysoon Zayid. It comes from writer Joanna Quraishi (Kevin Can Wait), Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills (Hot In Cleveland, Grimm) and Universal TV where Hazy Mills is based.

Co-written by Zayid, and Quraishi and inspired by the life of Zayid, Can-Can follows the life of a Muslim woman who has cerebral palsy, as she struggles to find love, the right career, and discover who she is separate of her opinionated Muslim parents.

Ms. Mayor - Drama from Barbara Hall, Nina Tassler & Denise Di Novi in Development at CBS

Barbara Hall’s CBS drama series Madam Secretary features a female Secretary of State. Now the veteran creator has set her sights on a new drama project for CBS about a woman in a position of power, Ms. Mayor.

The project hails from former CBS chairman Nina Tassler and producer Denise Di Novi via their PatMa Productions. Written by Hall, in Ms. Mayor, when a young activist runs for Mayor of NY on a whim, her surprise victory launches her onto a political stage that she’s not prepared for, but is determined to take on with her idealistic enthusiasm.


The Bold Type - Season 3 - Peter Vack & Alexis Floyd to Recur

Peter Vack is Patrick Duchand, described as a magnetic, fearless, and whip-smart new staffer at Scarlet whose employment shakes things up. Alexis Floyd is Tia Clayton, a smart and driven campaign manager for a local city council candidate.


Speechless - Season 3 - Ben Savage to Guest

In the series’ Season 3 premiere, Ben Savage (Girl Meets World) will guest-star as a real estate agent who crosses paths with Maya, Jimmy and the rest of the DiMeo family as the future of their home hangs in the balance.

Chicago PD - Season 6 - Jack Coleman Returning

In the upcoming Season 6 episode, the Intelligence team is working a case and the younger Ruzek is surprised when his dad is somehow mixed up with things, complicating an already problematic situation. Jack's return to the show will air Oct. 24 on NBC.

MD-1 - Medical Drama from Dr. Oz in Development at CBS

CBS is developing a medical drama series with Dr. Mehmet Oz attached as an executive producer, Variety has learned exclusively. Greg Spottiswood will serve as writer and executive producer.

The series is titled “MD-1.” It follows a team of street doctors who take on the biggest catastrophes in New York, saving lives without ever setting foot in an emergency room or hospital. The project is inspired by the “Medical Avengers” program in New Jersey.

High School Musical - Disney's Streaming Service Reveals Details & Character Breakdowns

Set to debut as part of Disney's forthcoming Netflix-like direct-to-consumer streaming service, the 10-episode series will be titled High School Musical: The Musical. Disney says the show will be shot as a docu-style series and follow a group of students at East High who stage a performance of High School Musical for their winter theater production only to realize that as much drama happens off-stage as on stage. Every episode will feature a new rendition of a song from High School Musical as well as an original song.

Single Parents - Hannah Simone to Guest in 2 Episodes

Hannah Simone (New Girl) will have a two-episode guest role as Dr. Monique Dewan, a "brilliant, sexy and terrifying" pediatrician whom one of the titular single parents, Will Cooper (Taran Killam), asks out. Dr. Dewan is his first attempt at dating following his divorce.

The Chi - Season 2 - Kimberly Hebert Gregory, Carl Lumbly & Curtiss Cook to Recur

Kimberly Hebert Gregory (Kevin Probably Saves The World, Vice Principals) will play Kimberly Hendricks, described as a razor-sharp power attorney working on behalf of Ronnie (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine).

Carl Lumbly (Supergirl) has been cast as Walter Dion Burkes, the ranking member and founder of the 63rd St. Mob. Burkes is described as keeping a low profile, but still has influence on the streets.

Curtiss Cook (Luke Cage) will play Douda, described as a successful Southside businessman and hustler, who also has ties to Reg (Barton Fitzpatrick). With Reg’s help, he’ll become an unlikely mentor to Brandon (Jason Mitchell).


Empire - Season 5 - Mario to Recur

Mario will play the role of Devon, described by Fox as "an earnest, up-and-coming R&B singer who supports his ailing sister." Both the Empire label and Lyon Family Management are vying against each other to sign him. The season finds the Lyon family trying to build back their empire after losing the company at the end of last season.

Shrill - Julia Sweeney to Co-Star in Hulu Comedy Series

Julia Sweeney (Saturday Night Live) is set to co-star opposite current SNL cast member Aidy Bryant in Shrill, Hulu’s six-episode single-camera comedy series based on Lindy West’s bestselling 2016 memoir, Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman. It tells the story of a fat young woman, Annie (Bryant) who wants to change her life, but not her body.

Sweeney will play Annie’s (Bryant) mom.


Man With A Plan - Season 3 - Kali Rocha Promoted to Series Regular

Capital - Criminals Drama from Carol Mendelsohn & Julie Anne Robinson in Development at NBC

In a competitive situation, NBC has bought for development Capital, a drama series from Carol Mendelsohn Productions,Julie Anne Robinson’s CannyLads Productions and Universal TV where both companies are based.

Written by Sean Finegan, Capital centers on Special Agent Joanna Ward who heads up an elite Washington, D.C., unit that catches the world’s most dangerous criminals because she knows that all high-stakes crimes have one thing in common. Money. Someone’s paying for it and someone’s profiting from it. But when her partner gets killed and her team comes under attack, Jo must form an unholy alliance with her arch-enemy: a money launderer-extraordinaire who’s on the run from his most dangerous client.

Swamp Thing - Len Wiseman to Direct & EP DC Universe Series

Len Wiseman (Sleepy Hollow) is set to executive produce the series and direct the first episode of Swamp Thing, the upcoming DC Universe drama based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. The project hails from James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television and is set to premiere in 2019 on the DC Universe digital subscription service.

Written by Mark Verheiden and It co-writer Gary Dauberman, Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.


Briarpatch - Jay R. Ferguson, Edi Gathegi & Brian Geraghty to Star in USA Network Pilot

Written by Andy Greenwald based on the Ross Thomas novel, Briarpatch centers on Allegra “Pick” Dill (Dawson), a tenacious and highly-skilled investigator working in Washington, DC for a young, ambitious Senator. When her ten-years-younger sister, Felicity, a homicide detective, is killed by a car bomb, Allegra returns to her corrupt Texas hometown. What begins as a search for the murderer becomes a fraught and dangerous excavation of the past Allegra has long sought to bury.

Ferguson will play Jake Spivey, Allegra’s childhood best friend and former running buddy. Once the poorest kid in town, he’s returned from years of shadowy business abroad and reinvented himself as the region’s richest swell. Now, it’s said, he dabbles: In real estate, in society, in women. Whispers abound that he might just be dabbling in drugs, guns, and politics too — only most locals can’t decide which of those would be worse.

What/If explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. Each season will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally consequential source material, and the power of a single fateful decision to change the trajectory of an entire life.

Ware will play Angela, Castano will portray Marcos, Powers is Todd and Usmani will play Avery.
