Lethal Weapon - Season 3 - Seann William Scott Replaces Clayne Crawford; Renewed for a 3rd Season; Episode Order Revealed

Lethal Weapon yesterday scored a dramatic, eleventh-hour Season 3 renewal by Fox with Seann William Scott replacing original co-lead Clayne Crawford.

No episode count was announced but I hear that, despite the fact that Lethal Weapon‘s third season is premiering in the fall, its order is for 13 episodes, not the standard full-season 22.

I hear the unusual order is believed to be a way for Fox to hedge its bet on the risky reboot.

The license fee on Lethal Weapons is believed to have stayed the same though the budget covered by the studio is said to have gone up with the casting of Scott who had been sought after for series.

Sources tell THR that Scott may play the brother to Crawford's Martin Riggs, thus keeping the well-known name in the mix.

Sources tell THR that Warners opted to fire Crawford after he was disciplined each time for his poor behavior. Despite the studio's repeated reprimands, the actor did nothing to change his behavior and Warners instead opted to fire him rather than take a large financial blow and have Fox cancel the series. Lethal Weapon is a strong performer domestically and internationally — the film franchise is a global smash having grossed hundreds of millions of dollars — and the network was willing to work with the studio to find a way to move forward. Lethal Weapon is currently the only show produced outside of Fox counterpart 20th TV on the network's 2018-19 roster.

Still remaining on the bubble is Warners' Batman prequel Gotham, which sources say could return for an abbreviated 13-episode run in order to reach the 100-episode threshold needed for syndication.

FOX has ordered a third season of the hit action drama LETHAL WEAPON, it was announced today by Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

In Season Three, series star Damon Wayans will be joined by Seann William Scott (the “American Pie” franchise”), who will play a new character who folds into a partnership with Murtaugh (Wayans). This marks Scott’s first network series regular role.
