The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2017 - Day 13 - Agents of SHIELD vs. Firefly & The X-Files vs. The Walking Dead

Hey all,

Joss Whedon has created or co-created five shows, and four of them appear in this year's competition with two of them facing one another today. Agents of SHIELD, the MCU's first foray into television, is our sixth seed with a strong record. A 14th placed finish two years ago represents the show's worst performance and its fanbase certainly doesn't seem to have diminished as time has gone on. Its opponent today is cult hit Firefly, still a subject of widespread calls for revivals and reunions, and the show created by Whedon ten years before the release of "The Avengers". Whether or not it can take down SHIELD 15 years after its solitary season, I don't know.

It would be fair to say that, generally, the classifications of shows as current or ended don't matter a whole lot, other than to split the shows evenly. And yet, The X-Files' run in this competition would seem to disprove that. Between 2010 and 2014, it had three top five finishes with a single first round defeat in the middle. Since being re-clarified as a current series from 2015, it is yet to escape the opening round. In theory, today's battle against The Walking Dead would seem like a tough one. But AMC's zombie drama made the second round for the first time last year, a fact that surprised even me. I wonder how it might fare this time around.

A reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round. Each poll will open at 12pm ET on a given day.
2) Vote for your favourite and spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) One vote per person per poll.
4) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
5) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.
