Dark Matter - Welcome To The Revolution - Advance Preview: “Politics of Hope”

This episode of Dark Matter delivers a very clear message regarding what the tone of the rest of the season is likely to be. The season premiere let everyone know that war is coming and the fallout of that is starting to be felt. It is a big episode with big consequences and even bigger surprises. Not everyone will make it back to the Raza and this episode has a very high body count. It is intense and will leave the audience guessing what is going to happen until the very end. And, just to add to the intrigue of it all, some interesting new people cross paths with the crew and they may share a bit of a past. Also, speaking of blasts from the past, someone very sinister from the past of one of the crew makes a very shocking appearance.

The start is a bit different than usual, but perfectly sets up the rest of the episode. From the start to the end it’s not really clear whose side everyone is on. The only specific of this episode that can really safely be stated is that they are on a mining colony. What are they doing there? Why does the mighty Raza crew care about a little mining colony? Do they actually care? Well, all those questions get answers, but you’ll need to watch the episode to find out. It's all worth it though because there are some incredible character moments that get into the heart of who they fundamentally are as people.

While the crew is dealing with all that the Android is left behind on the Raza. She has a specific task that she’s working on, however, along the way she discovers a little something unexpected. If you read SpoilerTV’s exclusive interview with Joseph Mallozzi you might just be able to wager a guess as to what it is. What she discovers is exciting and the long term story potential is quite impressive. They can go so many different directions with this storyline. It also opens up a world of growth potential for one character in particular.

After the fallout from EOS-7 the universe is on the verge of war. Or, more accurately, it’s probably already at war so you can bet that nothing is going to be easy for the crew. They don’t always agree on how to handle things and that is a big part of this episode. Still, at the end of the day, they are the crew of the Raza and in this universe that means something. Also, something to look out for is the fallout from the last episode as Ryo works to determine what comes next. The back and forth between the two sides seems like it is only just beginning.

Several new storylines are launched and a couple old ones are picked back up. There is action throughout, and it all leads up to a captivating ending that promises much more action to come. This episode takes the show back to its roots and is very reminiscent of the series premiere. It’s a very strong character driven episode and a great showcase for the whole cast, but Six and Roger Cross in particular shine. Things are going to be a little bit different after this episode, but what that means, in the long run, is anyone’s guess.

Don’t miss this episode when it airs Friday, June 16th at 9/8c on SyFy in the US and Space Channel in Canada.

Here are some quotes to tide you over:

“We’re the crew of the Raza.”
“We’re not fighting your battle for you.”
“We make terrible heroes.”
“I’m one of them now.”
“They need me more.”

Hit the comments with what you hope will happen. Are you excited for all these big things happening? Why do you think the Raza crosses paths with the mining colony? Do you think the crew even cares or are they there for their own means?
