  • MOVIES: The Croods 2 - Dreamworks and Universal Cancel Sequel
Less than three months after a new writing team was brought into the project, The Croods 2 is history. Sources confirm to Deadline that DreamWorks Animation and new corporate sib Universal Pictures have axed the long-in-the-works sequel to the 2013 toon.

Sources said the project had been going south for a while and that the companies were weighing priorities after DWA was sold to NBCUniversal parent Comcast this year. The Croods 2 didn’t make the cut.

The film was to be the follow-up to The Croods, which dug up $587M worldwide, more than two-thirds of which came from outside North America. The sequel originally had been set for release December 22, 2017, via 20th Century Fox, but it was put on hold after Comcast’s takeover of DWA.

  • 04:30 - South Park - Rewriting Episode Due To Donald Trump's Presidential Win
Good thing producers of South Park are used to changing on the fly, what with tonight’s episode supposed to be hyper timely, and address previous night’s presidential election. Except, being media members, they wrote it with the Hillary Clinton-esque character vanquishing the Donald Trump stand-in to become our 45th President Elect because, duh.

Originally titled The Very First Gentlemen, the episode now is called Oh Jeez. And, she doesn’t.

On the bright side, looks as though America is going to be great again, and women can be anything – except POTUS, of course.

South Park previewed the results on Twitter today:

Thanks to A for the heads up.
TVLine has learned that casting is currently underway for Raven’s daughter Nia, a tween described as “bold, confident and driven,” although those positive qualities “often get her in over her head.” Despite taking things too far, Nia always has the best intentions; she “believes in helping people and doing what’s right, even if it gets her into trouble.” (Gee, does that sound like anyone else we know?)

When the series begins, Nia is just starting middle school, a difficult transition made even more complicated by the fact that — wait for it — she’s suddenly having psychic visions.

Nia’s younger brother Booker is described as being a sweet, naïve mama’s boy — a “true innocent who is in no rush to grow up.” That said, once he’s aware of a situation, “he’s surprisingly adept at turning the tables and standing up for himself.” Casting directors are specifically looking for a “young Donald Glover” type.

  • 03:35 - Young Justice - Season 3 - Officially Confirmed by Warner Brothers Animation
Thanks to Sonofgod87, Folie-lex and wahyu for the heads up.
The rumors are true. Three years after Young Justice was cancelled by Cartoon Network, the cult action-animated series is coming back. Warner Bros. Animation just announced that it has begun production on a third season of all-new episodes of the series based on the characters from DC Entertainment.

There is no network for the revival yet. There had been a lot of chatter over the past 10 months about a new season of Young Justice, possibly on Netflix, fueled in large part by comments made by the show’s creators Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman. The streaming service carries the existing two seasons of Young Justice and is considered a suitable home as it has successfully revived several cult series already, though sources note that the animated show is in the marketplace and no decision has been made on a network partner yet. The new season hails from the same creative team, led by Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman: Doomsday) and Weisman (Star Wars Rebels, Gargoyles).

Praised by critics and DC fans for its impressive visuals and rich storytelling, Young Justice aired for two seasons on Cartoon Network, from 2010-2013, before it was cancelled, triggering a crowdfunding effort to bring it back. The series won a primetime Emmy for Individual Achievement in Animation for Phillip Bousassa for the “Independence Day” episode in 2011.

“The affection that fans have had for Young Justice, and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us,” said Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series. “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”
