Secrets and Lies - The Daughter - Review

Hello all! I apologize for the delay in my review. It's been a crazy week! This episode of Secrets and Lies gave us new information about the Warners so let's get started!

"The Daughter" begins with Eric finding out Danny is a detective with the NYPD and is working with Cornell. We see a flashback of Danny fighting with his daughter, and that was the last time he saw Rachel. We learn more about his daughter's disappearance later.

Cornell was all over the place this week first interviewing Neil and then tracking down and arresting Carly. She wasn't much help to Cornell except for confirming Neil's alibi. Cornell then moves on to interviewing Eric. Cornell hands him his mail and asks why Kate's credit card had a charge from a private DNA lab. Cornell also wants to know about the property in Boone. Eric finally snaps and tells Cornell that it's obvious Kate had a secret life.

Eric walks in on Neil and Patrick having a secret conversation which I thought was strange. What do these two have in common? What were they talking about that Eric couldn't know? Eric is furious with Neil because he thinks Neil is stealing from the firm. The two fight, and Neil quits. Eric meets with his siblings and they discuss Neil and Danny. Patrick knew Danny was a detective even though Eric didn't tell him. How did Patrick know? Did Neil let it slip like he said? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Eric and Patrick drive out to the property that Kate had been paying and it turns out the house belongs to Kate's mother. She had no idea Kate is dead much less that she had paid the mortgage. The mother tells Eric and Patrick about Jake, her old boyfriend that Kate took from her. This is the guy Kate told Amanda about in the flashback. The mother tells them to leave once they start asking questions.

They track down Jake and it turns out he is the father of Kate's baby. Kate was looking into her son, Charlie, and has found the people that adopted him. In a flashback Kate asked Jake if she could tell Charlie about him and he said no. Jake said this is because Charlie is already grown and there's nothing he could teach him. I can't help but wonder if there's more to this story.

Patrick and Eric argue over Melanie. Patrick's tired of his family treating his wife like trash, and I don't blame him. Even if Eric and and Melanie don't like her, they should respect that she's married to their brother and try to be nice to her. Melanie seems harmless, and she does seem to love Patrick. It's not like the rest of the Warners are angels, either. But Eric does apologize. Maybe he just worries about his younger brother. Maybe I'm just suspicious of everyone on this show.

The episode ends with us learning more about Danny and his daughter. Danny's partner committed dioxide because he molested Rachel and other girls. It also turns out that Danny has an arrest warrant out against him for walking out in a testing on a narcotics case. I thought it was interesting how much Cornell likes Danny, and it was nice to see a softer side to her. Unfortunately Cornell's boss doesn't care about her personal life and orders her to arrest Danny or she will be suspended.

What did you think about this episode? Do you think everyone is acting suspicious? What do you think about Kate and her secrets? Do you think Cornell will arrest Danny? Let me know in the comments section!
