Z Nation - Little Red and the WolfZ - Review + Best Moments POLL

'Little Red and the WolfZ' chronicled 10K's escape from Murphy's right hand man, while exploring the effect Merch killing herself had on Murphy in his plight to make more of the vaccine.

Like 10K, as he went through all of the physical toils to elude his captor, this episode because exhausting the longer it went. Similar to the premiere, the episode told a story that did not need as much as time as it was given, or at least, a story that could have been told better.

As the title suggested, Red and 5K make their first appearance outside of the premiere, though not in a good way. Considering how little time was spent getting to know the two of them and building that chemistry between Red and 10K, it was hard getting any kind of feels for 10K as he hallucinated his supposed objects of affectation. The only scene that did prove effective was when 10K was floating on the table raft reminiscing on the events we saw in the premiere. However, that was more due to the badassery of 10K doing his Rambo impersonation and the song 'Natural Disaster' by Mother Feather playing over the sequence.

It seems dedicating this whole episode to 10K's escape was a means of getting some closure on Red, and thus my engagement with the episode got lost quickly. Sure, there were some cool moments with 10K defending himself as he was chained to a car and a couple of the chase scenes were mildly exciting, the first half of the episode was actually quite fun. However, the last half of the episode began to drag as simply the whole episode wasn't needed to tell this story and this story alone. On top of it all, there was just an overload of slo mo shots, which lost their effectiveness real quick.

Meanwhile, we did get some Murphy time as he vented about his frustrations to the corpse of Merch and battled with himself back and forth about whether he should eat her brains. I don't know if these scenes were meant to be amusing, but I just found them to be disturbing. Murphy hasn't been as humorous this season. A large part of that has to do with him being at his best when he is playing off Team Bite Mark. Also, his smugness and self-aggrandization has increased ten fold now that he has broken off on his own, and it has made him unbearably detestable.

Last week's Escorpion centric episode was a step forward in the right direction, following three lackluster episodes to start the season, though 'Little Red and the WolfZ' was a step back again. Season three has been, quite frankly, a disappointment.

I will say, however, that this was a great episode with regards to music. There was the aforementioned 'Natural Disaster' by Mother Feather, a badass rock song, and the more bluesy 'Heart' by Jason Gallagher to close off the show, both really setting the mood for their respective scenes. We also got an amazing rock instrumental as 10K rode on his motorcycle, and the chase sequences were made even more heart pounding by the percussion heavy track accompanying it.

Another positive was the ending, which gave us something to be excited about. Murphy tightening his tie and getting ready for battle against Team Bite Mark, now that 10K is free and will inevitably find his comrades, offers plenty of promise for the weeks to come. We can't forget that The Man is still lurking somewhere, and he will most likely get the whole team reunited again, hopefully sooner than later as it could be the shot of adrenaline this show desperately needs.

5/10
