New Girl - Episode 6.1 - Review: "House Hunt"

Welcome back to Season 6 of New Girl!!! I'm sure there are exciting things in store for the gang as Schmidt and Cece look towards moving in together, Nick and Winston must contend with long-distance relationships, and Jess still has to resolve her feelings for Nick. I think we can all hope for some resolution to the latter so that it is not dragged out throughout the season. Nick and Jess are the crux of the show's quirky dynamic and the will-they/won't-they love angle can only be played with so much before we, the viewers, get tired or retreading broken territory. But without any further ado, let's take a look at tonight's episode and what worked, didn't work, and how things look to be setting up for the beginning half of the season.

The scenario with Cece and Schmidt hit way to close to home and I totally understood their motivation. My roommate just proposed to his fiance and I know the clock is ticking that within a year and a half, it'll be time once again that I venture out to find my next place. "We'll cut out cup-ons!" Jess interjecting into Cece and Schmidt's planning was exactly like Jess. I just wish that over time, she starts to become her own individual. There were hints of that direction last season before the regression way late in the game. Meanwhile, Winston is down in the dumps while Ally attends an FBI training course and mentors her sister, Leslie, an upcoming real estate agent who is really, really not good. In the process of telling her she is no longer Cece and Schmidt's agent, he proclaims he's buying a house because he can't break the news to her.

Jess' reaction at the bank with the teller was hilarious. "Stop reaching for that button, I'm not robbing you, I'm just trying to avoid my ex." In the end, Nick agrees to help Schmidt out by putting the bar up for collateral so they can be granted a loan from the bank. Meanwhile, Winston fills Ally in on what's transpired and comforts Jess with her emotional crisis and actually gives her some sage advice on confronting her feelings. She has to first be friends with him again before she can even think of bridging that subject with Nick, especially since he's still in a long distance relationship with Reagan. I think the emotional crux of Jess will carry this season forward, but I really hope they don't prolong it. Nick dedicating his book to Jess was a nice touch and of course we know they'll end up together...at this point, it's just seeing how we get to that moment ala Cece and Schmidt, who also bought a house...if you'd call it that. Welcome back to the loft!
