Banshee - Requiem - Advance Preview + Teasers

Proctor starts his rather tiresome day by having to deal with the Brotherhood when they turn up at his house en mass before breakfast, armed with chains and baseball bats, ready for war. However, as we saw last week, he has an ace up his sleeve in the form of Senator Mitchum, so the unfortunate Calvin finds himself on the wrong end of yet another humiliating lecture on how the movement is heading in a different direction than the one he foresees.

Poor Calvin can’t seem to catch a break, he has big ideas but it seems that he doesn’t have the leadership qualities to see them through. His rage has been building throughout the season, with Coy handling the bubbling resentment and exasperation the role demands with aplomb throughout. We all know where it will lead him, back to his wife and brother; if he can’t control the Brotherhood, he will attempt to control that part of his life instead. What follows is brutal, and emotional, as we’ve come to expect from the Bunker brothers, both individually and together. As for their father’s mantra – there’s only one way a dogfight ends – this is one I don’t think he could have seen coming.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Carrie’s last stand is one designed to take down Proctor’s big deal with the cartel, and as we’ve seen in the promotional material so far, the plan does have at least some degree of success if the explosions and general carnage are anything to go by. One thing the clips haven’t revealed, however, is that she has a secret weapon on her side, or to be more precise, an unlikely ally to wield said secret weapon if and when the time is right. It’s pulp fiction at its finest, and suitably rounds off one aspect of this final outing.

I know that this last season has had its disappointments for fans along the way. Personally, I feel that the decision to not go ahead with the fifth season halfway through filming has had an impact on how the story flowed this year. It’s possible that some characters may also have been cut around this time too, as the plot was drawn together for the remaining episodes, which would explain why we didn’t get to see Nina Cruz’s girlfriend, who from the casting call last year was going to regret her relationship with the “possessive” Deputy.

Although I feel that the quality did dip a tad midseason, I have been pretty much satisfied with the show this year myself. There has been a noticeable shift in the type of violence at times, but with the rumoured cut in budget it’s understandable that changes were necessary, and I think that the payoffs in other departments have made it worthwhile. Antony Starr has had the opportunity to delve deeper into his role, demonstrating his full range as an actor, while we’ve also had a chance to see more of Matt Servitto as the new Sheriff flexes his muscles and realises that his dream job ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Requiem airs on Friday May 20 at 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT, below are a few teasers to see you through until then. If you want to have a go at guessing who said what in the dialogue teasers I will fill in any correct answers later today. Don’t forget to come back and vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

Brock recalls an incident in a previous episode and avoids history repeating itself

“You know, the whole tim…all those years in my cell. You were always there with me” Hood to Carrie

“You have been misled, by this imbecile. The minute he killed one of our own, you should have torn him to pieces” Senator Mitchum to the Brotherhood, about Calvin

“Hey, Miss Nobody. Did you really think I was going to let you leave?” Emilio to Carrie

“You son of a bitch. He’ll kill you for this” Rebecca to a hooded figure

“And some might say I was the worst fucking thing to ever happen to this town” Hood to Sugar

Sugar is still standing at the end, in fact he gets the post credit epilogue. Plus, we find out where the bag in his Origins story comes from

“You know, there’s nothing more annoying than an old guy thinking he’s still running things” Calvin to Proctor

“What I do know, is that to do this job, sometimes you gotta take off these badges and get bloody. It’s happened before, and it’ll happen again” Brock to Kurt

“Should have figured once I’d loaned it to you that I wouldn’t be getting it back in one piece” Sugar to Hood

“Banshee, Pennsylvania. Suck my tit!” Job

“I came to show you that Mr Proctor was mistaken when he told you that Banshee was a safe place to set up your manufacturing. Very mistaken” Carrie to Emilio

“He chose girls that seemed to him to be pure. He called them blessed. Blessed girls” Lilith to Dawson

“Go ahead, shoot me. Then you get Maggie, you’re free and clear, you can move into my house. Raise my son. Why build your own life when you can steal mine” Calvin to Kurt
