Mindhunter - Holt McCallany to Star

Holt McCallany is on the case for Netflix and David Fincher.

The Lights Out and Gangster Squad alum has been tapped to topline the streaming giant's Mind Hunter drama series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The casting serves as a reunion for Fincher and McCallany after the actor previously appeared in the prolific producer's features Fight Club and Alien 3.

The drama is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshanker. While specific details about the drama are being kept under wraps in typical Fincher fashion, the series is said to center around two FBI agents in 1979 who interview serial killers in an effort to help them solve current murders. McCallany will play Bill Tench, the inquisitive, skilled and forward thinking detective. He joins a cast that also includes Fringe alum Anna Torv as Wendy, a psychologist; and Jonathan Groff (Looking) as Holden, one of the special agents.

Originally developed at HBO via Fox 21, the drama hails from Fincher as well as Charlize Theron's Denver and Delilah banner. Joe Penhall (The Road) will pen the script with Dexter grad Scott Buck. Buck is set to serve as showrunner and will exec produce alongside Penhall, Fincher and Theron.
