This past week at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif., new CBS president Glenn Geller said that the new Nancy Drew is written as a diverse character. He did not specify whether she’d be African-American, Latino, Asian or another ethnicity, but he did confirm she will not be Caucasian.
The network has given a pilot order to Drew, a drama that finds the iconic crime solver — now in her thirties — putting her “uncanny observational skills” to work as a detective for the NYPD. But wait, she’ll also have to “navigate the complexities of life in a modern world”!
Drew‘s pilot comes from writers Joan Rater (Grey’s Anatomy) and Tony Phelan (Madam Secretary) and will be directed by Dan Jinks (Pushing Daisies). All three will executive-produce.
