    PRESS RELEASE TEXT
A Fresh Start… Not A Chance. Idris Elba Returns To BBC AMERICA’s Luther For A One-Night Event Thursday, December 17

Reprising his iconic Golden Globe®-winning role

“There are some things that you might’ve heard about me that quite possibly could be true” – John Luther

New York – November 5, 2015 – Golden Globe® winner Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Star Trek Beyond) returns to his iconic role as a self-destructive near-genius detective on the edge of law enforcement. Detective Chief Inspector John Luther (Elba) will learn the hard way; he may never be able to walk away from capturing the tormented psychopaths that lurk the streets of London. His attempt to leave the darker side of humanity behind for a chance at a “normal” life is quickly thwarted when he’s drawn into a terrifyingly complex case. A cannibalistic serial killer delivers a devastating blow that not only pulls him out of seclusion but pushes him closer to the edge than he’s ever been. A BBC AMERICA co-production, the gripping, psychological thriller Luther makes its highly-anticipated return in a one-night special event on Thursday, December 17, 9:00pm ET.

Struggling to cope with his own demons after losing so much, it seemed normalcy would always elude the emotionally impulsive detective. Teflon tough, even the strongest couldn’t endure what Luther has seen and been through. Hunting London’s most depraved criminals forced him to tap into the dark recesses of his mind, revealing sides of himself that would horrify most. The heartbreaking loss of his wife to a brutal murderer and his inner-circle of colleagues turning on him in a witch hunt weren’t enough to keep him away from the job. But watching his most trusted colleague and friend, Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley (Warren Brown, The Dark Knight Rises, Inside Men), die in his arms after getting caught in the crossfires of a case, finally pushed him over the slippery slope he’s always towed. A forbidden connection with serial-killer, Alice Morgan, offered him a somewhat skewed version of a happy ending and he took it.

Elba on Luther’s challenges: “I think there were bigger challenges when he lost his wife and his best friend…. That was a huge pinnacle and something that it took him a long time to get over. And in this [special] there is something similar that happens to him that is definitely traumatic.”

This time we find Luther on a leave of absence from the police force, laying low in a rundown cottage. A visit from colleagues, Detective Chief Inspector Theo Bloom (Darren Boyd, Veep, The World’s End) and Detective Sergeant Emma Lane (Rose Leslie, The Last Witch Hunter, Game of Thrones) brings a shocking piece of news that draws him back to London in search of the truth. At the same time, a gruesome cannibalistic serial killer has struck the city, eating body parts as he goes. With a trail of clues leading from one crime scene to the next, Detective Superintendent Unit Martin Schenk (Dermot Crowley, Babel, Bleak House) and his team must work out the twisted logic that connects each victim. But this murdering mastermind is more than a match for Schenk’s police, outsmarting them at every step. It’s not long before Luther makes his triumphant return to the Bullpen, determined to capture the killer before another mutilated body joins the mounting pile. But he’s dogged at every turn by ghosts from his past. Isolated and volatile, it will take every fiber of Luther’s being to keep it together.

Elba on Luther’s return to the Bullpen: “I think Luther goes back just because he can’t stay away from it for too long. Ultimately, because he’s a protector, [he] just wants to be able to fix what he can see other people won’t be able to …”

Idris Elba has garnered both Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominations for his role as DCI John Luther, with a Golden Globe® win in 2013. He was also honored at the 42nd NAACP Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special.

Written and created by Emmy®-nominated Neil Cross and directed by Sam Miller (No Good Deed, Fortitude) the Luther special also stars Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy, Ripper Street, Da Vinci’s Demons)as Megan Cantor, a mysterious woman from Luther’s past, John Heffernan (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Ripper Street) as the sadistic cannibal Steven Rose, Patrick Malahide (Indian Summers, Game of Thrones) as George Cornelius, an old school gangster, and Michael Smiley (Doctor Who, Ripper Street) returning as computer whiz Benny Silver.

    Entire First Season Commercial-Free Starting Jan. 17;

Rashida Jones, Hayes MacArthur, Jere Burns, Deon Cole and Andree Vermeulen
Star in TBS's Powerful, Heroic, Unforgettable and Tastefully Erotic Cop Show

TBS has already renewed its upcoming series Angie Tribeca for 10 all-new seasons well before the curtain even rises on the future Emmy® winner. TBS will introduce viewers to its first-ever police procedural with a massive, international multiplatform launch on Sunday, Jan. 17, giving subscribers the opportunity to binge on all 10 episodes of season 1 commercial-free through a 25-hour on-air marathon (Sunday 9 p.m. – Monday 10 p.m. ET/PT), as well as through TBS's VOD, digital and mobile platforms. Then on Monday, Jan. 25, TBS will begin rolling out season 2-11, each of which consists of one episode, giving viewers a season premiere and season finale in one really tight package. The new seasons will launch weekly across TBS platforms each Monday at 9:30 p.m. (ET/P T).

Real, brooding and shockingly alive, Angie Tribeca is the brainchild of Steve and Nancy Carell, who executive-produce the series through their Carousel Television. The series follows a squad of committed LAPD detectives who investigate the most serious cases, from the murder of a ventriloquist to a rash of baker suicides.

At the center of Angie Tribeca is Angie Tribeca, played by Rashida Jones (The Office, Parks and Recreation) in the performance of a lifetime as a lone-wolf detective who is none too happy when partnered with J Geils, played by Hayes MacArthur (Life As We Know It, Go On). Jere Burns (Justified, Breaking Bad) plays the squad's apoplectic captain. Helping solve each complex case are detective Danny Tanner, played by Deon Cole (CONAN, Black-ish); Dr. Monica Scholls, the quirky, bespectacled medical examiner played by Andrée Vermeulen (Upright Citizen’s Brigade, How To Train Your Dragon television series); and Hoffman, Tanner's K9 German Shepard partner played by Jagger ( Max). Not involved with the series is Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull, Goodfellas).

"Angie Tribeca has everything anyone could ever imagine in a crime drama," said a TBS spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity. "Dead bodies, heinous crimes, complex mysteries within mysteries, violence, grit, sex, gritty sex and a detective who will stop at nothing to get her man…or woman…or ferret. We are so incredibly proud of Angie Tribeca, we're going to shove it down America's throat in a really big way. And not just America. We're taking Angie global!"

On the international front, TBS's throat-shoving strategy for Angie Tribeca involves rolling out the show on numerous Turner International entertainment networks in January. Turner's Latin American and German networks are set to join the 25-hour marathon on Jan. 17, while Spanish, Nordic and Asian networks (both truTV and Warner TV) will premiere all first-season episodes at one time.

    Angie Tribeca: The Launch

    Season 1 – Starting Sunday, Jan. 17
Binge watching is the new normal, but for such a haunting, raw series like Angie Tribeca, one binge won’t be enough. So TBS is going to give viewers the ultimate binge experience: a 25-hour marathon of the entire season played five times in a row, Sunday, Jan. 17, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) – Monday, Jan. 18, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), with each episode running commercial-free. The first season will also be available across TBS On Demand, tbs.com, the Watch TBS mobile app and participating providers' platforms and apps. It's the biggest epic event since TV's last big epic event.

Seasons 2-11 – Available Mondays, beginning Jan. 25
After binging on Angie Tribeca's first season, viewers can start diving into seasons 2-11, each one consisting of a single episode that will allow viewers to experience the emotional highs of a season premiere and season finale in one powerful 30-minute package. Seasons 2-11 of Angie Tribeca are set to debut Mondays at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT), starting Jan. 25, followed by availability across TBS's on-demand platforms. As if that weren't enough, each week's season premiere/finale on the linear network will be followed by an encore telecast from season 1 at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).
