Haven - The Trial of Nathan Wuornos - Review

In 'The Trial of Nathan Wuornos we learn who the Darkness belonged to while Nathan defends his life. Also, the always awesome black-eyed Duke returned with a menace.

Not wanting to let the town in on the aether in the cave where Kira is trapped, Nathan and friends decide to lie to the community that Kira is dead as a distraction. A trial on Nathan is held by Vince, Dave, and Tony, while Charlotte and Dwight set out to rescue Kira. Poor engineer guy by the way, it seemed no one notices he is gone.

Nathan does deserve to be put on trial for sheer stupidity alone. His actions throughout the series has frequently left me scratching my head and asking, why did he do that?! Last week being a prime example - running away and leaving the engineer standing there to be killed. You'd think he would be more aware of his team considering how important they were to the job, but I digress.

The trial was interesting with Tony reading all of Nathan's past crimes and misunderstood actions over the years - clearly pointing out how Nathan has been at the center of many of the Trouble incidences. Nathan's speech in defense about love, hope, and light was written beautifully and it really encapsulated what the town of Haven is all about.

A new troubled Havenite named Grayson, a hearing-impaired character who can project sonic screams, was introduced. He reveals that he saw the silhouette of the person behind the darkness, a bearded fellow with a yellow bandana. The description fit Tony exactly, at least before he shaved prior to the events of this episode. Audrey would eventually do her thing and get Tony to relieve himself, thus saving the town.

Elsewhere, Dwight and Charlotte seem to be rekindling their relationship and after saving Kira they discover a plethora of aether to cure the troubles. Charlotte just needs the help of Audrey who is incapacitated by the Sandman to end the episode.

Lastly, Duke continued his rather uninteresting story helping the daughter of his old friend understand her Trouble to use it responsibly. But first they must rob a bank to pay off her dad's debtors by using Hailie's ability to walk through walls. Of course it does not go as planned and Hailie is shot on the arm by a police officer, her blood getting on Duke who then goes all black eyes. I know Hailie is young, but I was hoping Duke would kill her. There is nothing more annoying than a character who skips around in circles and acts like a spoiled child. Hailie eventually escapes him though and traps Duke in a cargo container.

These last few episodes have been solid. I don't feel myself engaged to this show as previous seasons. A large part of that probably has to do with Duke, their best character, who is kind of being wasted right now looking after an annoying child. Other than that, the mystery of the croatoan has been intriguing and this final season is looking promising.
