The Flash - Rogue Air - Review

After weeks of build up we finally got to see Barry and Eobard go up against eachother with some guest stars thrown into the mix. After a season of build up though I felt...disappointed. It felt too rushed and that confrontation should have potentially been moved to the next episode. In the meantime though we had a plotline involving Captain Cold which I have to say was actually kind of fun.

Previously Barry and Snart had struck a form of truce. But now with the particle accelerator about to turn on again, Barry had no choice but to turn to Snart (and his sister) for assistance with the matter. With the countdown to the big moment, time was of the essence and everyone had to act fast. This timer really added into the emotions of the episode, as we count down towards the season final.

While at times Wentworth Millers performance has been a bit over the top as Leonard Snart, here it worked perfectly. His dynamic with Peyton comes across really well and really adds into the whole feel of the episode. I have to commend Peyton List too on her rapport with Carlos Valdes, their play-flirting got a laugh out of me and I hope we get to see them interact more in the future.

What really let down the episode though was how disjointed the metahumans plotline felt compared to final 10 minutes. I would have preferred this metahumans/Snart plotline to have it's own full episode rather then be relegated to almost filler material by the final 10 minutes. When Eobard/Wells emerged near the end (and Barry was joined by Oliver and Ronnie) I had to wonder if I missed a double episode announcement or something. In the end it just came out all rushed rather then given the time it deserves.

That said, the team-up was an amazing watch (despite how disjointed it felt from the rest of the episode). Seeing these 3 come together to face off against Eobard. Their was a distinct lack of Atom and Black Canary but at least Ray contributed to the fight in his own way. I also liked the throwaway line where Oliver mentioned needing a favor from Barry. Despite how weird the timeline is right now, I love interconnected worlds in TV shows.

But now the question remains, what does Barry and his team do with the body of Harrison Wells? Will Barry reverse time and save his mother? Or has the master manipulator played them all once again.

Now despite all of the metahuman moving plot and the Reverse-Flash fight, theirs something I haven't yet mentioned that we've been leading to all season. Eddie and his break-up with Iris. Eobard as the master manipulator shows no remorse with who he manipulates, even when they're his own family. Now with all this information Eddie has broken up with Iris, could this potentially lead him down a path of darkness? Could this moment be the birth of the conflict between the Allen family and the Thawne family that will last generations? We'll have to wait and see.
Finally, did anyone else jump at the references to the Green Lantern? For those that missed it, we've had references throughout the season to Ferris Aircraft. However now a test pilot has gone missing. Who is that pilot? The one and only Hal Jordan. Could the writers be paving the way for Hal next season? They did mention at the start of the show that each reference is placed on purpose (which led to Gorilla Grodd this season). They also have already introduced the emotional spectrum. Hopefully, big things are coming.

Overall Thoughts:
Overall the episode felt disjointed. While I heavily enjoyed both parts, it just seemed off to cram 10 minutes of a team-up Reverse Flash fight into an episode dealing with moving the metahumans. Both plotlines deserved better. That said, the fight with Reverse Flash was over too fast...it can't be that easy can it? With less then a week to go, I'm sure we're in for a lot of surprises in the season final!
