Ratings Breakdown:
Two-hours of the new season of “American Idol” led Fox to victory, with an average 7.3 rating/11 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., peaking at an 8.1/12 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, “Idol” dominated from 8:30-10 p.m. (finishing second in the 8 p.m. half-hour behind the 11.1/17 for “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS), but it slipped by 12 percent from the 8.3/13 for the year-ago Thursday night opener (on 1/16/14).
Benefitting out of CBS’ aforementioned “The Big Bang Theory,” of course, was “Mom” at a 7.5/11 (#2) at 8:30 p.m., which held 68 percent of the “Big Bang” lead-in. Next was soon-to-conclude “Two and a Half Men” at a 6.2/10 at 9:30 p.m. (#2), followed by freshman “The McCarthys” at a 4.9/ 8 (#2) at 9:30 p.m. As a reminder, the upcoming reboot of “The Odd Couple” moves into the Thursday 8:30 p.m. half-hour on Feb. 26, with current occupant “Mom” shifting to 9:30 p.m. out of repeat telecasts of “The Big Bang Theory.”
The Eye net capped off the evening with older-skewing mystery drama “Elementary” at a first-place 5.4/ 9 from 9-10 p.m.
Over at ABC, two more hours of cooking competition “The Taste” was half-baked, at a 2.4/ 4 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. And that led into a repeat of “How To Get Away With Murder” at a third-place 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, NBC could not compete with its line-up of “The Biggest Loser” (#3: 3.2/ 5), canceled sitcoms “Bad Judge” (#4: 2.1/ 4) and “A To Z” (#4: 1.6/ 2), which earned their walking papers, and “Parenthood” (#2: 3.4/ 6), which built by a hefty 112 percent in the overnights out of “A To Z.” Only three original episodes of “Parenthood” remain.
The CW populated the evening with 2012 movie “House at the End of the Street,” which scored a 1.1/ 2 from 8-10 p.m.

Go Mom and Parenthood!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat for TBBT and Mom. AI didn't effect it much, at least per the HH.
ReplyDeleteAI doesnt have the effect it use to at all.
ReplyDeleteABC is ridiculous for not showing TGIT when TV viewership is so high right now.
ReplyDeleteThe viewership for abc has not been that high this january
ReplyDeleteTGIT really doesn't need it, TBH.
ReplyDeleteABC needs a better filler
ReplyDeleteCan't see the taste getting renewed
It did get renewed twice, so who knows.
ReplyDeleteIt can't even pull a 1, is it really worth renewing ?
ReplyDeleteJust imagine the levels it would reach with that viewership levels.
ReplyDeleteIt's a cheap schedule filler.
ReplyDeleteA repeat of the movie 'House at the End of the Street' that gets that overnight is a 'loser'? really?
ReplyDeletePS: I hope Jennifer Lawrence and Bates Motel's Max Thieriot will have a chance to act together again. I liked their scenes :)
Top 25 Markets 19-49 Demo Ratings have been posted
ReplyDeleteLet's see if TBBT was capable of cracking a 3.
ReplyDeleteBut the rest of the CBS line-up looks low. I expected higher. lol
ReplyDeleteHmm, not seeing them despite refreshing.
ReplyDeleteHmm, showing fine for me. Try CTRL-F5
ReplyDeleteDoesn't really deserve it for this episode; it was really week.
ReplyDeleteno its not it was funny
ReplyDeleteI was bored through most of it. Even Mom wasn't it's usual self this week.
ReplyDeleteyour totally wrong lol
ReplyDeleteNow those are TBBT ratings.
ReplyDeleteAnd woah Parenthood! Being on the last episodes and no Murder on the air must have helped it rise
In your opinion
ReplyDeleteParenthood and Mom look very high from the top25 markets. We shall see how it shapes up in finals but those look me to like the big winners from last night. TBBT should be around the 4.5 mark which is still amazing but quite down from where it was. I would love for Mom to break a 3.0 but I expect 2.8-2.9. But still, new series highs hopefully. TBL also seems to have rebounded!
ReplyDeleteI agree with this. They need to develop a new reality franchise that is able to hover around 1.2/1.3 on this night. These are really low levels and they are still affecting a high number of weeks, which will hurt their seasonal average. I understand not being profitable to invest in scripted shows for this hiatus (maybe just one hour though) but they should try new unscripted stuff.
ReplyDeleteIt's much better to have the shows air in a split season format and there would have been no better way to achieve a split season than the one they currently are doing. Besides, I am kind of doubtful TGIT oscilates that much with viewership as casual programming (reality, new shows, comedies, procedurals) do.
ReplyDeleteLast year TBBT did a 5.7
ReplyDeleteIt's still huge, but the show is already showing its age. As long as it hangs up on the 4s there shouldn't be a problem, but it's gotta be disappointing. Just imagine how Mom would have done if it had TBBT last season as a lead in
So the PCA's actually helped Mom a little..
ReplyDeleteThe jerk around really threw it off it's game.
ReplyDeleteWell Empire didn't need it lol. What show is airing on Thurs at 9??
ReplyDeleteI don't follow, what did you mean by that?
ReplyDeleteWill they do that again next season?
ReplyDeleteBackstorm - the show airing at 9 - won't be Empire.
ReplyDeletebesides, American Idol still provided Empire with an enormous sample (3.2)
The moving around the schedule due to NFL really hurt TBBT's numbers.
ReplyDeleteThe moving to monday and back to Thursday
ReplyDeleteI really doubt it.
ReplyDeleteAh!
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but it started great on Monday and then it deflated. Its Monday run was pretty weak, so I think that also hurt the show, but the changes on schedules must have also had an effect
I think it was due to the change. and maybe The Voice hurt it a little?
ReplyDeleteThe drop for CBS is quite alarming, but I think CBS will renew it past season 10 if all the stars are willing.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense
ReplyDeleteYep, until it starts to pull 2.5 men numbers the show is more than safe
ReplyDeleteIt did in that in the prelims when it was pre-empted.
ReplyDeleteIs still comfortably the highest-rated show on all of broadcast so nothing to worry about...
ReplyDeleteCBS will just have to ponder if TNF is worth all that much if it damages TBBT.
CBS can't thank Chuck Lorre enough. The should make a statue of him in their headquarters.
ReplyDeleteThey might but I think S10 might be the end
ReplyDeleteHe is to CBS what Shonda is for ABC.
ReplyDeleteAnd what Dick Wolf is for NBC
ReplyDeleteAnd what Gordon Ramsey is for FOX
Yes, but unlike Shonda, , none of the shows his shows are produced by CBS so they get no syndication benefits.
ReplyDeleteWB probably has a statue of him, too
Backstrom is going to be Rake 2.0 anyways. I hope Idol can be more stable than last season..
ReplyDeleteCBS is trying to full season football package
ReplyDeleteDid people leave Elementary midway to watch Parenthood, lol?
ReplyDeleteIt does look like it lol
ReplyDeleteArguably, Lorre and Shonda are more successful to their respective networks than the rest.
ReplyDeleteyes a .4 is a loser
ReplyDeleteBut Dick Wolf's shows have aired 51 seasons since 1990 for NBC.
ReplyDeleteMaybe bring back Extreme Home Makeover? It might benefit from a similar "absence makes the heart grow fonder" effect that seems to be helping Celebrity Apprentice this season.
ReplyDeleteI'm speaking on ratings-terms.
ReplyDeleteTBBT-Still amazing even its down from 5.7 from last year i think?
ReplyDeleteMom-Hitting new series high,very good.
Two and a Half Man-Decent for a show in its 12th season,i think CBS shouldnt ended it.
American idol didnt drop much from Wednesday, still good.
Elementary and Parenthood are helped by absence of HTGAWM.
And Dick Wolf has made NBC millions upon millions of $$$ in syndication revenue, something Lorre has not done for CBS.
ReplyDeleteAnd DickWolf has made NBC millions upon millions of $$$ in syndication revenue. Something Chuck Lorre has not done for CBS.
ReplyDeleteWolf has also given NBC millions upon millions of $$$ in syndication revenue, which is something Lorre, has not done for CBS.
ReplyDeleteYaaaaaas Mom
ReplyDeleteI still need to catch up on MOM.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's ratings hold up once it's after the TBBT repeat this Spring.
I read in another site that it was a repeat. It isn't a loser to me.
ReplyDeletegah Elementary please syndication get it renewed.....
ReplyDeleteMcCarthys tied a series high. Bit of a hollow victory for it + everything else on CBS given the lack of competition, but darn it, I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteElementary already has a syndication deal with WGN.
ReplyDeleteso is s4 sure?
ReplyDeleteWell, you need at least 88 episodes to go into sybdication so i assume its a safe bet.
ReplyDeleteHell NO, yuk
ReplyDeleteit's a 3 year old movie
ReplyDeleteSo? I noticed that even for all new (on broadcast) movies is rare to do very well. Imagine a repeat.
ReplyDeleteMom!!!! YAY!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteElementary needs better time for airing. Such a good show doesn't fit with comedy day. It has more potential for greater ratings if it would be on with other dramas.
ReplyDelete
