The Musketeers - An Ordinary Man - Advance Preview & Dialogue Teasers
9 Jan 2015
Reviews SS The MusketeersAfter last week’s set up we move on to what at starts out as a far more light-hearted episode. King Louis has decided that even his favourite pastime of hunting is boring him and he wants to try something new. Hence one of the footmen is instructed to hand over his clothes as a disguise and the Musketeers are commanded to show him how the commoners of Paris spend an evening. Cue plenty of quaffing of ales, bawdy fights and dubious card games - this is one of the most entertaining pre-credits teasers the show has had so far. Until things go horribly wrong...
I’m sure it’s no secret that the King is one of my favourite characters, so I’m delighted that Ryan Gage has this chance to showcase a side to his character that we rarely see. He and Luke Pasqualino are both remarkable, the highs and lows their characters share together make for some unmissable TV. Partnering him with the d'Artagnan is a very deliberate manoeuvre too I believe. One of the main themes of the season is explored in greater detail throughout the episode, and the two of them share a similar experience which may not seem obvious at first. The aftereffects of these incidents have made them very different people however. These contrasting values and life lessons will no doubt play a large part in Rochefort’s future plan for the country too.
This week also sees the very welcomed return of Milady. I missed Maimie McCoy in Keep Your Friends Close, but can see why they kept her back until now. After the threat Athos laid down last season her reappearance deserves a fuller explanation than time would have allowed. She hasn’t been having the greatest of times for the last six months by the looks of it, pickings for a petty criminal outside of Paris are slim it appears. She’s a canny lass though, so I’m sure it won’t be long before we see her stalking the streets of the city again without having to keep a sharp eye out for her husband on her back.
There are a number of guest stars this week, including a brief return of the wonderful Brian Pettifer as Poupart in his gloomy morgue - the remaining Musketeers calling on their CSI skills once again to follow the trail. Brian McCardie plays a blinder as the notorious slave trader Sebastian Lemaitre, a man whose cruelty could give Rochefort a run for his money. Then there is Pepin, a smaller part perhaps, but a very important one. Micah Balfour plays what I would essentially call the titular role with an understated finesse and charm. He is a typical common Parisian, our ordinary man, caught up in amongst the heroes and criminals.
Back at court Rochefort continues to slither around the palace, using his silver tongue to pay lip service to all and sundry. Marc Warren clearly enjoys this chance to be the misunderstood villain, desperately trying to stay one step ahead of the game. In the same way that we see a different side of the king this week, Anne also shows us what she is made of when she’s pushed to her limits. Alexandra Dowling’s gutsy performance has a real edge to it which is a pleasure to see. The queen is in as much of a predicament as her husband in many ways. She faces a difficult decision, not to mention monumental embarrassment if Louis does not turn up at the Dauphin’s christening.
One last short teaser paragraph for you, but you have to work this one out.
Congratulations on working out the hangman, here it is in full.
Although the episode starts with one of the most humorous and lively teasers ever, by contrast the last scene is incredibly sad. The youngest Musketeer has learnt another of life’s cruel lessons and it has hit him hard. His friends once again show us what true heroes are as they rally round and help him make amends.

NIce, Sandi! I'm looking forward to this episode so much for the pairing of Louis and d'Artagnan in their adventures. I may be more excited for this episode than the first one. I do have a question. Does this episode cement any future friendship or interaction with the two of them?
ReplyDeleteI think the servant question the captain quote is Rochefort about Constance. And I think the last quote about Lemaitre is Louis.
You already know that Ryan and Luke are my favourite actors in the show, so I'm pleased to hear that they play off each other really well. :) I was a bit concerned that the only reason d'Artagnan was the one paired with Louis in this episode was because of Milady but if there's also a 'relationship of sorts' starting to develop between the two, it makes me a bit happier. Have I got that aspect right?
ReplyDeleteI'm also pleased to hear that Queen Anne has some interesting scenes in this episode. During S1, I very much felt that she was the least developed of the female characters, so I'm hoping she's used more effectively in the new series. Alexandra Dowling is a striking lady but she wasn't given more opportunity to show off her acting skills last year.
Whilst I loved episode 1, having a bit more fun in episode 2 will be a nice contrast.
I'm very interested to see where Milady goes this year and whether or not there's any possibility of redemption, though we know that she and Athos can never really be together again.
So happy to see Aramis holding the baby in the preview! :D Didn't think that was gonna happen so soon. I'd guess the second one ("This has all been so sudden") could be Marguerite to Aramis?
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome! I am very much looking forward to seeing Luke and Ryan together. I absolutely adore Ryan's acting so this will be fun. Your comment about D'Artagnan and King Louis sharing a similar experience and the aftereffects of said incidents has me intrigued. It's nice to hear that Queen Anne will have her time to shine in the episode and show people what she's made of. Also, I am very curious to see where Milday's character is headed this season. Great preview Sandi!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see Ryan Gage in this episode! And how Milady enters the lives of the Musketeers once again......
ReplyDeleteYes, she definitely does. Hopefully, when it is finally said that it is a very special moment. I wonder whether it could be either Milady or Louis saying the "I love you" instead!
ReplyDeleteMaybe...or since it is supposed to be an episode that finds the dauphin very ill, perhaps it is Anne to the baby...?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I forgot that - it could well be Anne!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay in getting back to you, and everyone else, it's a busy night here!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the first episode, but the second I saw the trailer for this one at the end of it I just knew that I was going to like this one more, lol. It doesn't disappoint either, in fact I'd say it's a far more complex and nuanced tale than I was originally expecting. All of the cast are stellar in it, but I don't think I am overstating things when I praise Luca and Ryan the most. They have a certain kind of chemistry that make any kind of scene work together, whether they are giggling like loons or discussing more weighty matters.
Your first guess on the quotes is spot on, the second isn't though I'm afraid.
This episode sounds fun and I really can't wait for the return of Milady!
ReplyDeleteI think you're going to enjoy Luke and Ryan in the episode, the rest of the Musketeers need to be on the look out cos there's competition for brotherhood chemistry here tbh! lol. I was glad to Anne get some good scenes too. With her husband missing you kinda expect her to be freaking out, so it's good that we see that, and it's done well too.
ReplyDeleteThere are some really funny bits in the episode, Tom's 'looks' in the opening segment are just hilarious, for example, and Gage can feed a line with timing like no other. But there are some heavier moments too still, earning it the 9pm timeslot. It's a good balance though for me I think.
I was surprised they showed the cross with the Dauphin in the preview too :o But quite cute too :) Spot on with your guess, it has been very sudden hasn't it....
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Helen. It is fun in places, but as I've said above, it's also quite serious in tone too at times. Things look rather dire for Louis and d'Artagnan on more than one occasion, and obviously things at the palace are very stressed. There is a lovely christening to look forward to too though :)
ReplyDeleteI had a bit of a problem with quotes this week, so many of them were spoilery and/or probably better heard in context for the first time. Some of them are probably a bit of a puzzler therefore, sorry. I'm afraid that neither of those guesses are correct.
Is this incident new to viewers - ie we're getting a bit of d'Artagan's past that we didn't know about - or is it about something we already know?
ReplyDeleteRight there with you Ryan, I think it's safe to call me an official Gagette, lol. The Anne we saw in the promo was very fired up wasn't she. With the king away she is effectively in charge, and now she has Constance by her side - there's a very brief but cute moment between the two of them btw! - and Rochefort, who appears to be as supportive too, she is asserting herself.
ReplyDeleteYour first and third guesses are correct, the middle one isn't though I'm afraid.
I'm afraid not, sorry hun.
ReplyDeleteIt's the next episode when the Dauphin falls ill, this is the one that has his christening in.
ReplyDeleteBoth incidents are things we know about.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 3 right? The I love you teaser?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your reply, Sandi! I have a quick question for you: what do you think about the chemistry between Marc Warren and Ali Dowling? While their interactions in episode 1 were brief, the stares he was sending her in the throne room were intense, as were his eyes when he told the Spanish ambassador that the Queen "loves" him. I'm glad to hear that we will be seeing these two interact more in the second episode - I find their relationship fascinating.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to take a guess - maybe it's about their fathers dying/getting killed?
ReplyDeleteIt's my favourite of the three I've seen so far, with fun times, character progression, the usual fights and skirmishes - with d'Artagnan pulling off the show stopper once again, and some real heartfelt moments too. Plus, Milady is finally back too!
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, sorry, I'm a dolt! lol. It's not to the Dauphin though, that's why I was getting mixed up I think XD
ReplyDeleteI think episode 3 would be too early for any Constagnan "I love you" to appear..
ReplyDeleteI'm going with mid-series...
Ahh okay, I see what you mean now. I cannot wait for the Louis/D'Artagnan scenes to come! I'm glad Milady's return wasn't rushed too. The premiere was jam packed.
ReplyDeleteYes, totally agree - I will have to be patient! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd say that she certainly feels he is on side so to speak. I like the term that Luca used in the Villains video when he called Rochefort a snake, I kind of get the feeling that he slithers around people telling them what they want to hear. It's only when he is with Fernando that we see the real Rochefort come out, apart from then he's pretty well guarded.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I'll end up feeling silly if it's something thats very obvious and I just couldn't make the connection :P Since I am coming up blank as of right now I will just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty cool! Happy to hear it'll be a weekly thing haha. I'm sure you know this already but these preview posts are greatly appreciated :)
ReplyDeleteNo worries. It's great to hear that you enjoy them :) xx
ReplyDeleteI love Marc Warren as Rochefort. He exceeded my expectations, and that's saying something, since I expected him to be amazing from the start. The role fits him perfectly and the character is brilliant - the perfect villain. I'm looking forward to seeing his character become more pronounced as the series progresses.
ReplyDeleteMy bet for the "I love you" quote is Aramis or Milady.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure d'Artagnan and the King will make a terrific comic duo lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay Milady!
any Anne and Aramis scenes
ReplyDeleteI simply cannot wait. In SE1, Ep 2 was one of my favs. SE2Ep1 left me with a lot of questions that I hope will be answered as the Series develop... To this point I am in shock about the Queen attitude towards Aramis (whatever happened to "any woman would be fortunate to be loved by you!"). Please do Tell if they have any interesting scenes comming up Anne and Aramis?
ReplyDeleteAlso I think Ryan Gage has been given more weight this season and not just some minor quotes (Meloncholy and such) than last season. This comming episode sounds like so much fun already
Thank you for the hints, Sadi!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have the show back! I LOVED the first episode! It was great!
-Question, according to the press release, I realize that D'Artagnan and Constance will be in separate storylines in this episode. Do they at least share a scene together?
-And that trailer teaser quote! How I WISH it could be Constance telling D'Artagnan "I love you"! That would be a dream come true. If I'm correct, can you confirm? At this point, I just don't see any of the other characters saying "I love you" to each other than D'Artagnan/Constance...Are you able to hint if it's some other characters?
I believe Sandi has already said that it's not d'Artagnan and Constance..
ReplyDeleteI think Adrian said that episode 2 was one of his favourites from the new series during his Geek interview, along with this mid-series episode that has limited locations.
ReplyDeleteMaybe is Athos to Milady? If I remember well Tom said in an interview that his reaction to her return won't be what the audience expects.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if d'Artagnan and Louis's 'shared experience' has anything to do with the amount of support and belonging they've had - or not had, in Louis's case - since losing either a parent or a parental figure?
ReplyDeleteSince losing his father, D'Artagnan has not only become a talented Musketeer but has found friendship and support with his band of brothers, especially with his deepening friendship with Athos. Louis on the other hand is now lost without his parental figure ( the Cardinal ) and this now leads to all kinds of trouble because he's allowing the wrong people to influence his decisions.
What made me think this was Howard Charles saying that family and belonging are amongst the biggest themes of S2 and of course Porthos might risk losing that sense of belonging when he learns that Treville has been keeping his past from him and that Aramis and Athos have been hiding a secret from him. Aramis will need his brothers if the truth about the baby gets out and Constance may also have to decide where she really belongs - with her husband or d'Artagnan.
One question I forgot to ask - does d'Artagnan have to keep himself in-check whilst in the company of the King of France? Being careful of what he says and does? It must be a bit surreal to be with the King as he's dressed as a commoner and trying to behave as a commoner when he really isn't.
ReplyDeleteI just had another thought about the "I love you". I recall reading about Rochefort with an Anne lookalike in one episode. I wonder whether it could be Rochefort that says the "I love you" instead in the trailer teaser.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting point. It will be interesting to see how all the musketeers behave in the company of the King at the very start of the episode. It will be even more interesting to see how d'Artagnan is with him when he is with the King himself in a dire situation.
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be good to see some sort of relationship between d'Artagnan and Louis as a result of this. It would infuriate Rochefort, as he is desperately trying to get both the Musketeers and the King out of the picture. If d'Artagnan wins the favour of the King as a result of this incident, then d'Artagnan would definitely be on top of Rochefort's hit list!
ReplyDeleteOh whoops, I missed that comment! Well, I suspected that it's too good to be true!
ReplyDeleteGoing back to Constance...I wonder if Anne's sudden desire for a woman other than her gossiping ladies in waiting is because of Aramis. She said that she needed a confidant and messenger. I wonder if Constance will end up being caught in the middle of the Anne-Aramis-Marguerite situation.
ReplyDeleteLogistically it's definitely an odd one Helen. It's hard to see a situation in which the Queen would have openly expressed a desire to hire a companion/messenger in the hearing of the Musketeers and therefore, in what context D'Artagnan would have had the opportunity to recommend Constance for the role. Another three penalty points on the dramatic license I think.:) It will be interesting to see whether this proves to be Constance's salvation or her downfall. Certainly if she were to be harmed or worse as a result of taking the role, D'Artagnan would never forgive himself. She's certainly going to find herself in a highly dangerous environment, full of dark secrets and lies into which she will doubtless become entangled. I just hope she makes it out in one piece. I think there is very little doubt that the Queen suspects that D'Artagnan is in love with Constance and I think she'll soon realise that feeling is mutual. As a woman thwarted in love herself, I could see her helping to facilitate the relationship and indeed, she may play a significant part in setting up their eventual reunion.
ReplyDeleteD'artagnan going missing so soon into S2 - so soon after Constagnan's argument - may only remind Constance why she's trying to stay away..
ReplyDeleteI think while it will certainly remind her of the perils of his being a soldier, what it will also do is reinforce within her, just how much she loves him and indeed how painful it would be to lose him without having resolved their differences. My guess is that eventually she will come to the conclusion that irrespective of the risks involved, she must be with him and that a life without him in it, is really no life for her at all.
ReplyDeleteThat could be really interesting if Constance's role does put her in danger, which I'm sure it will if she makes an enemy of Rochefort. I just hope the writers/producers stay clear of the book ending for Constance by delivering some sort of twist or alternative storyline.
ReplyDeleteHi somosinevitables, welcome to the Musketeers gang :) Sorry for the delayed response, my Mondays are usually very busy as I'm away until late evening x
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid it's neither of them. I remember reading that from Tom too, but I think he wasn't expecting us to have seen so many spoilers by now that many fans would already know/have guessed how she returns, lol :(
Hi there, welcome to the site xxxx :)
ReplyDeleteAs we saw in last week's opener, Aramis has realised that it would be stupid to go anywhere near Anne I think. It's just too dangerous.
Hi Miss López welcome to the site! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not particularly shocked by Anne's behaviour, she knows how dangerous the situation would be if she were to carry anything on with Aramis. If she were to be caught it would mean death to them both, and very possibly her son too. I kind of saw the talk between them both in the finale last year as her saying that one night was all it could ever be, how ever much she regretted that. It's an impossible situation unfortunately.
Anne doesn't have any scenes with any of the Musketeers except Treville if I recall correctly in this episode, they are obviously out looking for d'Artagnan and the king as soon as they know they are missing. I agree that Ryan and the rest of the secondary characters have been given more substance to them this year so far. With more of the action taking place at court many of them are fleshed out a bit more, which is great to see :)
Hey Juliet, glad you enjoyed the episode. I loved it too, the guys were fab weren't they :)
ReplyDeleteNope, I'm afraid with d'Artagnan being kidnapped and away from Paris there's nothing between him and Constance. But he is fantastic with Louis which should take your mind off it for the course of the episode, the two of them really do play off each other so well as characters.
Yep, as Tigercheetah says, it's not them. It's such an obvious one that I didn't even consider this a spoiler, I'm so surprised that no-one has got it yet tbh :o lol
This has probably already been answered by the sneak peek, lol. Sorry I wasn't around yesterday to get to it beforehand, Mondays are hell for me. My phone will not let me post on the site if there's more than about 10 comments on a post for some reason, it won't even keep the page open :s I can only read the emails as they come through.
ReplyDeleteGetting warmer....
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Scoobie :) Four for four on your guesses for the quotes, well done!
ReplyDeleteAs kynikey first suggested, and Tigercheetah expanded on too, the killing of their fathers has had an effect on them.
Yikes! That never happens. Lucky guesses. I'm now wondering if Rochefort spots Constance's feelings for her Musketeer very quickly as I'm guessing he must call her on her interest/concern about events.
ReplyDeleteLet's face it, who else would call King Louis a clever and generous man ;) lol
ReplyDeleteI think Constance might be calling into question something Anne is being advised to do - based on one of those teaser pics - and that's what irritates Rochefort initially.
ReplyDeleteHis suspicions about her and d'Artagnan will probably happen later in the series.
Lol - this has been really puzzling me!! Perhaps, it is the fake Anne saying it to Rochefort then? :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the future has planned for them I'm afraid, but it would be strange if Aramis were to ignore the dire warning he got at the end of the last episode I think. The last two women he got serious involved with were killed, I don't think he wants that to happen with Anne.
ReplyDeleteabout marguerite
ReplyDeleteI hope Constagnan end the episode on slightly better terms than they did episode 1, otherwise I can see the next few episodes being painful as far as they're concerned.
ReplyDeleteI agree. If we're to wait until the mid point of the series for a reunion, which seems likely, at the very least we should see that there is still some mutual interest and attraction still alive and well. I do fear that all the sullen faces and longing looks will become a drag by episode five or six. Particularly if that's all we're offered.
ReplyDeleteCould well be but it's the "Why else" that intrigues me. Clearly he's suggested there must be a reason for her impudence to him, as he sees it. He may wonder at her interest in events and her interference and conclude that she must have a vested interest in the outcome. After all, if she's "merely" a servant, why would she question his actions? She'd simply keep her mouth shut.
ReplyDeleteVery true. Ah, you've got to love him :)
ReplyDeleteFirstly, this review was amazing as always sandi! Does constance appear much in this episode? I feel like she become much more empowering this series. For the quotes: the one about brothels is that constance to captain treville? And is the teaser trailer quote constance to d'artagnan? (Not sure about the last guess, it seems a bit obvious but worth a shot!)
ReplyDeleteI think there's a very good chance that we'll see something like that. She'll probably be incredibly worried for him and desperate for news that's he's been found and is safe. What I think will be interesting is the moment when she hears he's safe and also the moment when she first sees him again. Every instinct in her will want to go to him and yet she won't be able to and indeed after last week, she'll most likely feel that he wouldn't want her to. He on the other hand may have had some time to think during his unexpected detour with the King and I'm certain he'll be feeling pretty wretched about how things were left between them.
ReplyDeleteToo tempting and delicious to keep lurking! That first quote (“If the king knew about this he would stop it immediately, he’s very fair minded, generous and clever”) has to be King Louis himself. Or someone standing right next to him. No clue yet on the puzzle...
ReplyDeleteOr perhaps, Rochefort actually does say it to Anne directly?
ReplyDeleteHi Thundera Tiger, good to see you again :) Haha yes, only Louis would say those things about the king, well done ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's the one :)
ReplyDeleteI got there in the end!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the vowel came out a bit earlier last time? You're pretty much there with that, the only wrong one is 'Our' as there's no 'u' in that 3 letter word. Great start! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're not, that's spot on! ;)
ReplyDeleteRight. Oops. That's what happens when I just count letters instead of looking what has already been filled...lol
ReplyDeleteOh, good one! Especially since I think there's a "humorous" in the middle of the sentence so it starts humorous and by...whatever point something changes I guess. ;)
ReplyDeleteNo worries, always best to check cos I make mistakes with them too at times. It's not always easy to get all the letters in place when there's so many **** in a row on my screen, even though I do check them twice XD
ReplyDelete10 Befor & After Photos That Will Warm Your Heart
ReplyDeletehttp://stumble.it/1DltvBt
I think the fifth word in the first sentence is either 'with' or 'well'. You could be right about the "humorous" for the 10th word in the first line. The first word of the second sentence could be "The". I'm definitely going to need some more letters before attempting any more! :)
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether D'Artagnan wil, become concerned about Constance when he realises that Milady is now in the Palace. After all, the last time she encountered her Milady had punched her in the face and put a gun to her neck. Although she's a brave woman (shame on you D'Artagnan😞) she was terrified by Milady. Given the presence if Rochefort at Court as well, I've no doubt that before too long D'Artagnan will be wondering whether encouraging the Queen to hire her was the equivalent of placing her in the lions den.
ReplyDeleteThat's true - not a good place to be in the midst of both Rochefort and Milady. It sounds like she's going to make an enemy of Rochefort early on and we already know how she feels about Milady, so she may want to resign her position before too long! ;) Unless, she does form some sort of friendship with Anne (or Marguerite, although not too sure this will happen) she is going to be pretty isolated at court.
ReplyDeleteOver the next few episodes, I'm hoping that Constagnan's screentime isn't being limited to just 60 seconds per episode ( as was often the case in S1 ) otherwise I can't see there being any actual development until we get to this 'tavern episode' although if it's episode 5 rather than 6 or 7, it won't be so bad.
ReplyDeleteThe slave drivers aren't a nice bunch, Brian McCardie's character isn't a very pleasant chap at all. As I say in the preview, he's every bit as nasty as Rochefort really, just not as good at hiding it from anyone, lol. As you can see from the photos of Louis, they don't exactly get treated very well once they are caught either. I think he looks more dishevelled than d'Artagnan does mainly due to the fact that he's not used to the physical and mental strain of it all though, at a guess.
ReplyDeleteI think I had the question about Constagnan from Juliet earlier, they don't have a scene together in the episode this week I'm afraid.
Sorry, I've only just seen that your post has been edited as I'm working my way through to add all the correct guesses to the quotes.
ReplyDeleteYes, Santi revealed that he would be getting close to Marguerite in some of his pre-season interviews. Some of us are thinking that this will only lead him into trouble.... lol
“The Queen is distressed, but I am sure that in her heart she feels the same” Artagnan to Louis
ReplyDeleteDo we even get some looks exchanged between them this week?
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that while we may not see substantial development until the mud point of the series, we will see some slow progression, some baby steps towards their reunion. For some fans D'Artagnan's declaration of love in A Rebellious Woman , was jarring because to that point we simply had small subtle moments of mutual attraction, then suddenly love. They needed to take us with them a bit more. Nothing for weeks the suddenly everything all at once, doesn't really serve the characters, or the story. It seems that in episode three they'll also have little to no interaction with each other. Hmm, not sure about this really.
ReplyDeleteI have been puzzling over the “This man fought to protect you” - this has surely got to be said to either Anne or Constance about Aramis or d'Artagnan but by whom?
ReplyDeleteIt could be said by Lemaitre to Louis. He doesn't realise who Louis is, therefore a Musketeer fighting so valiantly for an apparently ordinary bloke, might seem weird.
ReplyDeleteI think in this episode will be a hard one for Queen Anne as well , her husband is missing and that she is a Spanish, and that the nobles have no love for her so they will not take any orders from her . Anne will probably turn to Rochefort for advice, which will probably lead to her writing to her brother Philip the King of Spain for help.
ReplyDeleteWhen Louis returns to the palace and finds out his wife asked for help from his enemy will cause some problems between them.
May i ask ? Does Louis talk to d'Artagnan about his marriage and how he feels about his wife? and is there any scenes between the royal couple ?
So, I'll add a couple more guesses:
ReplyDelete"This man fought to protect you" Lemaitre to Louis (about D'Artagnan)
"If I knew anything I would tell you, I swear" Treville to Constance
The first one is said to Louis, but not by Lemaitre I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we know they dont have a scene together in this particular episode, we can presume that constance will spend alot of time worrying about d'artagnan's fate and potentially this could be a pivotal moment in her decision to leave her husband. Particularly in the christening scene I am expecting a few stares between the two and then we will perhaps pick up their storyline in episode three. I do think though that in order for their relationship to develop at a normal pace they do need more screen time.
ReplyDeleteAnne doesn't have a good time of it, like you say she isn't in the best of positions at court. In many ways she is in potentially as much trouble as her husband, and it's obvious that a certain someone is going to be playing on those potentials isn't it!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to say too much about the things Louis and d'Artagnan go through, but being chained together for much of the episode, while finding themselves in a hopeless situation, does mean that they will communicate differently to normal.
There isn't a great deal between the royal couple I'm afraid, much of the episode is the kidnap. There is the christening though of course, as we've seen in the photos, which does have a few minor pieces for some of the characters who have not been able to meet up before that happens. Plus, one thing happens, which I can't really go into now (however much I want to!! lol) which may be significant.
I've had another look at the teaser paragraph. Not sure if the bits I've added are right or wrong but here's what I think:

The/youngest/Musketeer/and/******/*******/*f/**f*’*/court/*******/***/**/***/***/**m/****./
***/f******/**c*/*g***/***w/u*/w***/**u*/******/***/**/***y/****y/**u**/***/****/**m/make/amends.
This is my main worry, that Constagnan follow the exact same pattern in S2 that they did in S1 - very little screentime together in early episodes, then WHAM around episode 7 or 8 and then very little screentime again in the last episodes..
ReplyDeleteI'm not a hardchore shipper but the last thing I want is for their relationship to lack passion and intimacy and even become boring because there's no forward movement and no decent length scenes..
I don't want 'the Downton Abbey effect' where there's lots of storylines going on but not much screentime for many of them. :)
Hello! Can I make a guess on the hangman? I think the first two lines could be: "Although/the/episode/starts/with/one/of/the/more/humorous/and/funny/*******/****, by/contrast/the/last/scene/is/incredibly/sad./ Maybe?!!
ReplyDeleteI have funny feeling that it has something to do with Milady , I think am going to be on Team Anne by the end of this episode and from what it looks like from the photo's from next weeks episode.
ReplyDeleteMine looks ALMOST the same right now...lol :D I think the end of the first sentence might be "is incredibly sad", but yeah, not sure.
ReplyDeleteYou are very much along the right lines :) Nice one
ReplyDeleteI thought about the "contrast" + your end of sentence sounds like it could be right! :)
ReplyDeleteYep, that's almost it! The following is correct.
ReplyDeleteAlthough/the/episode/starts/with/one/of/the/m***/humorous/and/*****y/*******/****, by/contrast/the/last/scene/is/incredibly/sad./
The thing at the christening? That's not to do with Milady, I can say that. I have to say that I'm kind of torn on the spoilers coming up in ep 3 with her though, Anne hasn't exactly been a saint either at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteAnd completely wild stab at the beginning of the third: maybe something along the lines of "His friends once again show up with...." no idea.
ReplyDeleteThis bit of yours is correct too :)
ReplyDeleteThe/youngest/Musketeer/and/******/*******/*f/**f*’*/c*u**/*******/***/**/***/***/**m/****./
***/f******/**c*/*g***/***w/u*/w***/**u*/******/***/**/***y/****y/**u**/***/****/**m/make/amends.
Lol - I've been desperately trying to solve this hangman! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy ;) Is the 9th word of that sentence 'count' instead? :)
ReplyDeleteHis/friends/once/again/show/us/what/true/.........
ReplyDeleteNot even exchanging Glances at the Christening with the Baby´s real father?? That would be hard to watch . Anne ignoring him (yet again - I know it´s for safety reasons ) at this event... I need friday ASAP
ReplyDeleteI think this is Rochefort speaking with someone about his belief that the Queen is in love with him as much as he is (Pfff he wishes)
ReplyDelete“Lemaitre was caught and sentenced to hard labour in the colonises, it can’t be him” Treville to musketeers, or porthos
ReplyDeleteTime for one more guess. Is the "This man fought to protect you?" said by Milady to Louis?
ReplyDeleteCorrect, it is Rochefort, but he isn't talking about her her being in love on this occasion :)
ReplyDeleteHis/friends/once/again/show/us/what/true/heroes/***/**/they is correct, but I can't see the end of your edit unfortunately. It seems the comments doesn't like it if there isn't a space occasionally by the looks of it.
ReplyDeleteAlmost. There is a clue as to who could be saying this is the preview.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid not, sorry.
ReplyDeleteHis/friends/once/again/show/us/what/true/heroes/are/as/they/repay/Louis/and/help/him/make/amends.
ReplyDeleteNot that that makes a whole lot of sense without knowing what the second sentence is, but I'm all guessed out...
I don't think that characters need to necessarily be together to continue a story in some ways. It's pretty obvious that what happens this week proves Constance's point from the end of last week - d'Artagnan leads a dangerous life. Having a scene between them to rehash that point isn't needed I don't think for the general audience.
ReplyDeleteThe main arcs this year are Porthos and Aramis' ones, as Adrian said in the Live Journal interview. But even those won't be front and centre every episode, they are just happening as backdrops throughout the stories. From what I've seen of the Constagnan ship so far it's progressing nicely, without too much angst, which would be draining and turn many off from it. There won't be lots of stuff every week though, like there isn't stuff every week for the other plot points.
Could it be 'rally' Louis instead? :)
ReplyDeleteI just hope d'Artagnan hasn't got to wait TOO long before he gets any romance in his life, Adrian did describe him as "loving" and therefore it's an important aspect of his personality.
ReplyDeleteAnd my mum's opinion about Lucia having better chemistry with d'Artagnan needs to be changed. :)
Oh no! I didn't notice that one - thanks Kynikey. It's going to be a struggle to finish this before tonight...just over 4 hours to go! :)
ReplyDeleteThe/youngest/Musketeer/now/learns/another/of/life’s/cruel/lessons/and/it/has/***/him/****./
ReplyDeleteHis/friends/once/again/show/us/what/**u*/******/***/**/they/rally/around/and/help/him/make/amends.
Nice one Knitty42; Could the end of the second line be:
ReplyDelete"The/youngest/Musketeer/now/leans/another/of/life’e/cruel/lessons/and/it/has/hit/him/hard./
I thought "rally around" as well, but that's one letter too many in the "around"
ReplyDeleteAlso, is the 12th word of the first sentence 'lovely'?
ReplyDeleteAlthough/the/episode/starts/with/one/of/the/most/humorous/and/lovely/opening/****/,by/contrast/
the/last/scene/is/incredibly/sad./
Yep, life's cruel lessons is correct!
ReplyDeleteThe/youngest/Musketeer/now/learns/another/of/life’s/cruel/lessons/and/it/has/***/him/****./
ReplyDeleteHis/friends/once/again/show/us/what/**u*/******/***/**/they/rally/**u**/and/help/him/make/amends.
The above is correct. :) I'll be back later on!
This is what I've now got -
ReplyDeleteAlthough/the/episode/starts/with/one/of/the/most/humorous/and/lovely/opening/****/,by/
contrast/the/last/scene/is/incredibly/sad./
The/youngest/Musketeer/now/learns/another/of/life’e/cruel/lessons/and/it/has/hit/him/hard./
His/friends/once/again/show/us/what/true/heroes/are/as/they/rally/round/and/help/him/make/
amends.
Ok guys, so let’s see what we have so far (to make it a bit easier for Sandi than wading through all those comments). I took what was right of all of our guesses so far and tried to fill the blanks with your or my other ideas that Sandi hasn’t checked yet:
ReplyDeleteAlthough the episode starts with one oft he m*** humorous and *****y ******* ****, by contrast the last scene is incredibly sad.
The youngest Musketeer now learns another of life’s cruel lessons and it has *** him ****
His friends once again show us what **u* ****** *** ** they rally **u** and help him make amends.
Although the episode starts with one oft he most humorous and lively (lovely?) opening acts, by contrast the last scene is incredibly sad.
The youngest Musketeer now learns another of life’s cruel lessons it has hit him hard.
His friends once again show us what true heroes are as they rally round and help him make amends.
Ah, I was in the middle of typing and didn't see that you'd posted right before me! I think the missing word is "acts" and I really, really hope that's it then!
ReplyDeleteJust seen Sandi has updated it and it's not 'opening' or 'acts' unfortunately!!!! Oh no!!! :)
ReplyDelete"teasers ever" then?
ReplyDeleteIt could be 'lively' not 'lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's what I had in mine, but my comment seems to have vanished now (so it's not even "waiting to be approved" anymore - weird). So that would be "most humorous and lively teasers ever"? Maybe?
ReplyDeleteWell done knynikey - we must be there now! :)
ReplyDeleteI really do hope so! That was some teamwork this week! LOL :D
ReplyDeleteRochefort to treville or spanish ambassador
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree and accept that we don't necessarily need scenes with them together to fan the flames and further the story but I think there needs to be a logical, if gradual progression in the relationship. Everything just felt so rushed in series one that they lost some of the emotional connection that you really need with a story like this. This needs to feel like a life changing love that the characters would risk everything for. Getting them together, then breaking them up in the following episode wasn't really conducive to that. We also know that there are more challenges on the way once they are reunited, so ensuring that events are properly paced is important.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that I was called away this afternoon, minor crisis here came up :/ I will make sure that next weeks hangman will be easier so that it finishes before Friday afternoon!
ReplyDeleteWell done all on cracking it :) I hope you are enjoying the episode Xx
Hi Sandi! After watching ep2 back again I'll try and fill in the missing blanks!
ReplyDeleteIf the King knew... - Louis to Pepin
This man fought to protect you - D'Artagnan to Louis
The Queen is distressed... - Rochefort to Treville
If I knew anything, I'd tell you, I swear - Gus to Athos
French man powering the spanish fleet... - Don Fernando to Rochefort
Lemaitre was caught and sentenced to hard labour... - Aramis to Treville
Hope these are correct! Looking forward to the episode 3 preview!
Hey Debs! :) Yep all correct. The preview is up now, sorry it's a bit on the late side! Xx
