Forever - Hitler on the Half Shell - Advance Preview

Forever, “Hitler on the Half Shell,” is another thoroughly enjoyable installment of the show with the interesting twists and turns we’ve come to expect overlaying a deeper theme. This episode is written by Sarah Nicole Jones and is directed by David Warren. Jones also wrote “The Frustrating Thing About Psychopaths,” and yes, Adam (Burn Gorman) does make an appearance in this episode!

This particular episode is timely due to the 70th anniversary marking the Holocaust. The theme of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is keeping the memory alive. It’s a shame that the episode didn’t air last week on January 27 which is Holocaust Memorial Day. The central case revolves around the Nazi practice of stealing all of the great art of Europe – much of which has never been recovered. I really like that the show raises awareness of this issue, and thereby contributes to keeping the memory alive. We also learn that Adam and Abe’s (Judd Hirsch) past intersected during the Holocaust. The episode also sees them meeting in the present.

The episode focuses on family. Abe is wondering about his birth parents, both of whom he lost at Auschwitz. We’ll get to see a member of Hanson’s (Donnie Keshawarz) family. The flashbacks take us back to before Henry (Ioan Gruffudd) knew he was immortal, and we learn about his relationship with his father. In fact, Henry learns a shocking secret about his father.

Throughout the episode, things are rarely as they seem. Look for the usual comic relief from Lucas (Joel David Moore), and Henry’s terrific observations. Jo (Alana Da La Garza) and Henry concentrate fully on the case this week. Abe makes a surprising observation about Henry’s scarf. We actually learn some surprising things about several characters. The theme of the episode touches on “Atonement can take many forms.”

Be sure to tune in to Forever on Tuesday, February 3 on ABC at 10/9c. If you’re loving the show remind your friends to tune it too! I’ll have a special article next week after the episode airs detailing ways you join in to help make sure Forever gets a season 2!
