CBS Rules; More Erosion for “Resurrection” on ABC

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 8.3/13
ABC 4.2/ 7
NBC 2.6/ 4
Fox 2.4/ 4

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 3/31/13:
ABC: +75, Fox: +60, CBS: +14, NBC: -13

—–

-Winners:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “The Amazing Race” (CBS), “The Good Wife” (CBS)

-Still a Positive Option:
“Resurrection” (ABC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Bob’s Burgers” (Fox), “American Dad” (Fox), “American Dream Builders” (NBC), “Believe” (NBC), “Crisis” (NBC)

—–

-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy overnight household Sunday victory for CBS, which was ignited by an estimated 20-minute NCAA Basketball primetime overrun and the latest edition of “The Good Wife,” which dealt with the untimely death of Josh Charles as Will Gardner. All individual program results for the Eye net are, therefore, approximate and they appear as follows by half-hour.

CBS/Sunday
7:00 p.m. – NCAA Basketball: 12.6/23 (#1) / “60 Minutes”: 10.9/19 (#1)
7:30 p.m. – “60 Minutes”: 9.8/17 (#1)
8:00 p.m. – “60 Minutes”: 9.4/15 (#1) / “The Amazing Race”: 8.0/13 (#1)
8:30 p.m. – “The Amazing Race”: 6.2/10 (#1)
9:00 p.m. – “The Amazing Race”: 7.3/11 (#1) / “The Good Wife”: 8.6/13 (#1)
9:30 p.m. – “The Good Wife”: 7.9/12 (#1)
10:00 p.m. – “The Good Wife”: 8.7/13 (#1) / “The Mentalist”: 7.5/12 (#1)
10:30 p.m. – “The Mentalist”: 6.0/10 (#1)

In episode four news, ABC drama “Resurrection” lost more steam with a second-place 5.5/ 8 from 9-10 p.m., which was 11 percent below one week earlier and 35 percent below the series-opener on March 9. Four-week overnight track for “Resurrection”: 8.5/13 – 7.0/10 – 6.2/10 – 5.5/ 8. But this was still 34 percent above lead-in “Once Upon a Time” (#2: 4.1/ 6 from 8-9 p.m.) and it did beat year-ago time period occupant “Revenge” (3.9/ 6 on 3/31/13) by 41 percent. The bottom line: If “Resurrection” levels off now, ABC has a contender here. And if it keeps falling, it does not.

Leading out of “Resurrection” was relocated “Revenge” at a second-place 3.8/ 6 at 10 p.m., which dipped from its lead-in by 31 percent. Earlier in the evening was “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a distant second-place 3.5/ 6 from 7-8 p.m.

Over at NBC, an encore airing of “The Voice” at 7 p.m. (#3: 2.0/ 3) led into a mere 2.2/ 3 for week two of reality/competition “American Dream Builders,” hosted by Nate Berkus, at 8 p.m.. Comparably, that was 12 percent below its anemic debut one week earlier (2.5/ 4 on March 23) and 30 percent behind the second-half of a two-hour encore of “The Voice” one year earlier.

Episode four of drama “Believe” followed “American Builders” with a series-low 3.1/ 5 from 9-10 p.m., which was six percent below the 3.3/ 5 one week earlier and 31 percent behind the 4.5/ 7 for its time period debut on March 16. Next was week three of drama “Crisis” with a 3.0/ 5, which slipped by 12 percent from one week earlier. Three-week overnight track for “Crisis”: 4.5/ 7 – 3.3/ 5 – 3.0/ 5). The bottom line: While this could actually be worse, it can certainly be a lot better for NBC.

On Fox, week four of “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” also dipped to a series low, with a last-place 2.8/ 4 from 9-10 p.m. But “Cosmos” is expected to finish third in the time period among adults 18-49 (and the other key demos) ahead of competing “Believe.” Earlier in the evening on Fox was the animated combination of “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.5/ 3), “American Dad” (#4: 1.7/ 3), “The Simpsons” (#3: 2.5/ 4) and “Family Guy” (#3: 2.9/ 4) from 7-9 p.m.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  1. I wonder if Resurrection will level offf now. It is still far away from any danger, but the show has to stop slipping
OUAT and Revenge seems stable with last week. Probably 2.0 for OUAT and 1.6-1.5 for Revenge, which is solid for both

    ReplyDelete
  2. If Resurrection refrain from falling beyond 2.0, it will definitely be renewed, seeing ABC's freshman Drama woes.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Ouch at Resurrection.... It will go below a 2.0 before season end. Good, but not the massive player everyone thought.

Glad Believe and Crisis are down more... COME ON REVOLUTION

    ReplyDelete
  4. It should still manage a renewal easily. But it will be for mid-season again. No way it gets a 22 episode order.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yeah they can't cancel all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  6. What does it mean for OUAT? Maybe a (very) low 2s?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Resurrection was going to had it hard agains TWD finale i hope it goes up the upcoming weeks it is still in a good place

    ReplyDelete
  8. Is the Mentalist-series has made proper sores?

    ReplyDelete
  9. It'll be up against GoT from next week which is sure to be even more of a power horse then last year.
I predict around 7 million for the premier..
I also predict Resurrections season low will be 1.8.
While Crisis and Believe could go under 1.0 within the next 2 weeks

    ReplyDelete
  10. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T CANCEL THE MENTALIST! I NEED SEASON 7

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ooh, forgot about that! I've been watching Resurrection, but GoT is a no-brainer choice for me.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am watching Resurrection, and it is painfully slow...but I am pulling for a renewal. After getting attached to so many ABC short Mid-season drama's, (GCB, Missing, The River) .. its about time one got renewed

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dariush Ariamanesh31 March 2014 at 15:21

CBS is by the meaning of the word "destroying" The Mentalist..for gods sake find this show a new network....it can have much better ratings if placed on the right spot.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That's why when a show gets a big number of viewers for its Pilot I don't immediately jump and say it'll do well. Some shows slip and keep slipping their whole season (ex. Sleepy Hollow may be renewed and it's got decent viewers, but it was slipping however little, every week, even towards the end - if it became stable I didn't notice).

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't have HBO so I'm going from TWD to Resurrection.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Good to see The Good Wife perked up slightly this week, even if it's over upsetting circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It looks as if CBS is not making enough money out of the Mentalist. I hope CBS reconsiders and renews the Mentalist for season 7. You get a free lesson in how to improve your people-watching skills. Great show, humorous and sad, tragic and compassionate.

PLEASE RENEW THE MENTALIST - 58 MILLION WORLDWIDE WATCH IT

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh right i forgot about GOT but one thing about that iis that not everyone has HBO so that can be a factor to see a little rise on Resurrection but still it can go down.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I predict TM will get a 15 episode order from TNT. They already have a deal there and it is a perfect companion to shows like MC or R&I.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Look for the WB to fight for it. It makes them a LOT of money w/ the world wide audience. Chances are, it'll find a home somewhere. TNT, maybe, or maybe NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Definitely NOT NBC - look at how they viewed Harry's Law. TM would skew the same way on that network. Remember, NBC dramas like CF, CPD are in the mid- to high 1s and they are hits. TBL is the only exception. TM would be hard pressed to get anything above that on NBC.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Crisis 1.0
    Believe 1.1

    :D Come on REVOLUTION lol

    Not to great for Resurrecton

    ReplyDelete
  23. Decent for Resurrection, though it needs to stabilize. Ouch for Revenge at 1.4

    ReplyDelete
  24. CF does better than mid-ones. The Mentalist won't be bought by another network because no network is going to pay the full cost of production of that show for that rating.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh no :(. Damn it Revenge! Step up!
Well, the show has dropped to 1.3 and then got up from it before, so I'm not really worried.
By the way, where did you see that 1.4? I don't see it on the table

    ReplyDelete
  26. Brandy Danforth31 March 2014 at 16:23

Glad Once is above a 2.0.Dont watch Reserrection but yikes it's gone from 3.8 to 2.3 in four weeks. If it wants to be renewed it better stop dropping.Im glad it's dropping though, gives Nashville a better shot.Suprised Reserrection is already barely above Once .

    ReplyDelete
  27. Come on Revenge! Step up next week! You've done it before!
Seeing this week to week slipagge on Revenge is rather depressing; it's still going to get renewed, surely, but I want to see it doing better!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. ya thats a massive drop.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Every week, the new 9:00 shows keep hitting series lows LOL. Hope they can all do better next week since The Walking Beast is done.

  31. The Mentalist steping up could grant it a final mid season renewal, but I think that's the best fans could expect at this point

    ReplyDelete
  32. Please tell me, how does it work if an episode is scheduled to start at 10:00 but is delayed until 10:40 and the ratings are taken at half hour intervals. If you have set your DVR (to ensure you get the whole episode and not miss the ending) to record from 10:00 - 12:00, how would the numbers be distributed?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Trust me, we'd take it. We'd more than take it, we'd bite CBS' proverbial hand off.

    ReplyDelete
  34. WrestleMania will also be this Sunday and that'll get about a million buys plus and that might cut into Resurrection's viewership as well.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The numbers you see right now are the numbers The Good Wife got until 10:40 + the 10:40 to 11:00 of The Mentalist, which means adjustment are to be made. As the 11:00PM portion onwards aired out of primetime, we won't know The Mentalist true numbers until the finals come out, it could be adjusted up, downwards or stay the same, but right now these numbers are misleading.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not with Game of Thrones premiering next week plus WrestleMania plus the Shameless season finale. I know for me those are priorities for myself.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Pablo, Thank you for the explanation. When do you have to view the episode to make sure it is counted where it belongs?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Those shows are going to do good, but I doubt that their ratings combined can match The Walking Dead's finale. I mean, the finale probably got over an 8
    Got will probably get a 3 or a 4, Shameless a 1, and WrestleMania a 1.5, even if GoT scores a 4, it would be a 6.5 (regular TWD) instead of a 8. something

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, OUAT is very stable. Resurrection is quite the opposite.

    ReplyDelete
  40. A 1.6 for the Mentalist is a good start. I mean, last week it was 1.3 so it's getting better

    ReplyDelete
  41. WB pays the production, NOT the network. And TM brings in money for the WB.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Damn, good for OUAT, bad for Resurrection and Revenge.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nooooo, Revenge needs to stabilize already. It's only one tenth above its series low now. :/

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's incorrect in this case. After a show is on the air for five years, the network starts paying all costs of production. By now, CBS has been paying close to the cost of production.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Good Wife beating the Mentalist in a row! The past two episodes of good wife fantastic and poignant. Congrats to the HW.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Mentalist last night was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  47. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F31 March 2014 at 22:46

the mentlaist went up nice! I wonder what the reason for that is

    ReplyDelete
  48. It's too bad Believe isn't doing better. I think it's a really good series. Somewhat predictable, but the lead characters are good and I kind of like the different side stories that we get with each episode. I haven't warmed up to Resurrection, so I'm actually surprised at how well it's doing!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Damn for Revenge.
But this episode did seem like a filler episode. So it's no surprise 0.35 million dropped off between the 1st and 2nd half hour. Especially as it's cantering on Pascal, and he's rather boring rn.

But next week will be higher I predict with *SPOILER ALERT* Mason Treadwell, and Emily and Aiden seeing Aiden's mother, and finding out what Pascal and Conrad did to the Mathis's. Hey with the way this season is going, it's seeming more and more likely that Conrad didn't just frame David Clarke, but was part of the actual bombing, or more likely the more broad cover up of the After-bombing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't think Believe and Crisis will affect if Revolution would get a spot or not since Crises and Believe are both only 13 episode scripted intentionally Mid-season series and unless they would suddenly change Revolution's format, they're not holding spaces for Revolution which normally debuts in the fall.
