THE CHANCES HAVE AN Unforgettable BACKYARD SEND-OFF IN A ONE-HOUR SERIES FINALE OF “Raising Hope” FRIDAY, APRIL 4
Critically acclaimed comedy Raising Hope will end its four-season run with a special one-hour farewell event Friday, April 4 (9:00-9:30/9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). The series finale kicks off with the all-new episode “How I Met Your Mullet” (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT), in which guest star Lesley Nicol (“Downton Abbey”) plays Jimmy (Lucas Neff) and Sabrina’s (Shannon Woodward) new maid. Then, in “The Father Daughter Dance” (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT), Virginia’s (Martha Plimpton) dad (guest star Jeffrey Tambor, “Arrested Development”) returns to Natesville with a big surprise for her and Burt (Garret Dillahunt), including a musical performance by Kenny Loggins (guest-starring as himself).
“On behalf of myself, Greg Garcia and Raising Hope’s amazing cast and crew, I would like to thank our audience for tuning in and supporting us over the last four seasons,” said executive producer Mike Mariano. “We planned our Season Four finale with this possibility in mind, and hope our loyal fans enjoy the way we’ve chosen to say goodbye to the Chances and to Natesville. Thanks again, and we’ll see you in syndication.”

Raising Hope, created by Greg Garcia (“The Millers,” “My Name is Earl”) premiered in the fall of 2010. Starring Emmy Award winners Martha Plimpton and Cloris Leachman, Garret Dillahunt, Lucas Neff, Shannon Woodward and Gregg Binkley, the series follows a lovingly dysfunctional family as they raise an adorable yet unexpected addition to the family – a little girl named Hope (Rylie & Baylie Cregut). In 2011, Martha Plimpton and Cloris Leachman were both nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for their leading (Plimpton) and guest (Leachman) roles on the show.

ReplyDeleteI knew it was coming, but it didn't stop me from feeling extreme sadness reading the title of this thread.
ReplyDeleteThis is a brilliant show that I will dearly miss, and it's undoubtedly the most painful cancellation of the season already (unless NBC cancels Community and Parks & Rec in a one-two punch, which would leave me in tears, but so far I'm feeling good about having them both next season - P&R is 99.99% renewed already).
When people say Community or Parks & Rec are underrated, they are, but they have internet credit, they have the critics talking, whereas Raising Hope has always flown under the radar, had average ratings (before FOX sent it to Fridays to die) and didn't amass a rabid fanbase.
But the show is quite zany, sometimes meta, always funny, showcasing a very talented cast and it has a unique voice - you can't mix up Raising Hope with any other show on TV (it doesn't show wealthy friends living in New York/LA/Chicago in fancy apartments is what I'm saying).
Yeah Raising Hope has always been an underrated show more than the other comedies and its a real damn shame.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sad but I expected it, comedies about working class characters rarely do well these days - The Middle being a rare exception. I don't know why because Raising Hope was always funny and had real warmth compared to other some other shows about families (like Modern Family).

Not really surprising. Ratings have been poor and it has enough episodes for syndication.

ReplyDeleteThe one thing I really hope is that Garrett Dillahunt and Martha Plimpton get new shows quickly. They were a major reason why I watched the show. Both were absolute gems.

ReplyDeleteI am terribly saddened even tho i knew it was coming,but it still hit me hard.My first thought was of you for i know how much you love this show.I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteSeasons 2 and 3 were fantastic but it just felt to me that the cast and writers were just going thru the motions this year in order to get to syndication.

I guess it's better this way than an unexpected cancellation (e.g: NBC's Go On) or having a truncated final season (each season got 22 episodes), though I wouldn't have said no to a 13-episode fifth season. It's good that it was announced now instead of learning about the cancellation at the Upfronts weeks after the finale aired, and it's even better than the writhers planned episode 4.22 as a possible series finale. At least there are still 5 episodes until the end, I will enjoy them even more knowing it's ending soon, I sure will miss these colorful characters, those very good concept episodes, and the world of Natesville.
