American Horror Story Coven - 03.10 - The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks - Review : "Kill Them All"

American Horror Story was back from its winter break last Wednesday, and it was astonishing ! I don’t know if it’s because I’ve missed it during the break or just because “The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks” was simply an excellent episode, where stories move forward and characters developments happened.
I’m clearly feeling the season finale coming, everything is slowly moving to the Fiona’s demise and the new Supreme revelation. But Fiona is not going to go down easily, she will do anything (and I mean anything) to keep her position. So, let’s review what happened, the episode was focused on two main themes : Fiona’s actions to keep her reign as the Supreme and Misty being the most likely new Supreme.

Picking up right after the ending of “Head”, Fiona welcomed Marie in her home. They’re the same, despite being enemies. Marie lost everything, and everyone, but she is used to. She has been here a long time, so she had lost many people. Fiona proved she can be kind and fair, even if bringing Marie is not just an act of kindness. She wants something from Marie.
But first, they need to take actions against the witch hunters. Fiona seems quite scared of them, but I’m not convinced by this storyline. The Dephi trust doesn’t scare me and I’d be mad if one of them kill Fiona or Marie. The witches are clearly stronger, despite Hank’s massacre in marie’s salon. (I’m still crossing my fingers Queenie’s not dead).
Fiona and Marie, Cordelia was ordered to get away by her mother. (How stronger Jessica Lange’s “No” was ? It was absolute perfection), put a spell on the Corporation. Magic required a lot of dollar bills and mice. The Corporation is not down yet, but now they have no money but they know witches are after them. Will they attack next week ? I can’t wait to watch them disappear.

We got to meet Marie’s master : Papa Legba ! He’s a great voodoo sorcerer, it's nice having a new villain, clearly stronger and better than the Corporation. He’s the one who gave Marie her immortality. But everything comes with a price. Every year, he asked her a service, anything, and she had to do it. So this year, after quite a terrible day, Marie had to go to a hospital, used some magic tricks (loved the magic powder on the nurse) so she could steal a newborn and get away. Her screaming with her tongue was so fun, policemen couldn’t stop her.
After fainting during the spell against the Corporation, Fiona told Marie she was weaker because of the new Supreme rising and she asked her what I’ve waiting since the beginning of the episode : how to be immortal as she is. Marie revealed she sold her soul to Papa Legba in exchange for eternity and immortality. But now, she had to do him a service once a year. His requests are always horrible, the worst one was when Marie had her first born, she had to give him away. Poor Marie, she'll never be a mother but she's a great Vodoo Queen.
I love when Marie and Fiona connected through her love stories. Marie had the Minotaur, he was a monster but she loved him for 200 years and now he is dead ; and Fiona just found love with the Axeman but she is dying. Poor powerful witches, life is not fair.

Fiona had to call Papa Legba and the scene was powerful. I was really excited, I did not know what will happen. In a way, I hoped she would make the deal and see what happens when the Supreme become immortal. But I love that twist. When sealling the deal, Papa Legba realized Fiona has nothing to give, she has literally no soul ! So, he can't give her immortality. Poor Fiona, you’ve asked it too late and you've done too much bad things in your life to get what you want. You can't be redeemed or saved.
Fiona is a terrible and horrible person, that’s for sure, but still it was so sad to watch her disappointment. She can’t have what she wants, she needs. She had one way to keep on living but now all her options are down and she is facing her end, for real.
Her lover paid her a visit and she delivered the best line of the episode : in order to stay alive longer, she has to deal with the young witches and “haven’t you heard, I have no soul. I’ll kill them all”… Bad, bad, bad Fiona ! And clearly, she did not wait too much time but I’ll get on that later.

This week was not Delia’s week. She continued to be a disappointment for her mother. When Marie broke the news she was the one hiring Hank the witch hunter to be Delia’s husband and kill the witches, Fiona got so mad she slapped Delia in the face. That scene was too good. The tension and the anger in Jessica Lange were great, I expected Fiona to slap her daughter and not Marie, but still it was fun. Of course she was mad at her because she felt for Marie’s plan. Fiona understands Marie, she acted as their enemy but she can not forgive her daughter for being so stupid. I can understand that too. Cordelia is likable, but she's weak, certainly compared to her mother.
After being rejected from the spell against the Corporation, Cordelia tried to find comfort with her beloved Myrtle. But she was quite harsh too. Myrtle cleverly stated it’s really hard to live in Fiona’ shadow, that Cordelia is not that special and so there is not many option left for her. What will become of Cordelia ? Will he blind herself so she can have visions again and be useful ? Or wll she just kill herself ? She needs to find a purpose.
By the way, how amazing was Frances Conroy during Myrtle's speech. I love everything about Myrtle, from her clothes, to her voice, the French expression she used. She is so much fun.

Yay ! Stevie Nicks appeared, playing herself as a witch. It was really great to see her interact with Misty. Stevie came as a gift from Fiona to Misty, from the Supreme to the next one. Of course, Misty is aware of Fiona’s real motivations, Cordelia put her up to speed but still, Fiona is very good and Misty quite naïve. She is not interested in being the Supreme, but as Fiona explains it, Misty seemed a bit more interested. Being the Supreme means having everything. Stevie sang “Rhiannon”, surrounded by all the witches. It was a great scene.
Maddie, Nan and Zoe felt the competition rising with Misty being the obvious next Supreme. Fiona seemed quite certain Misty is the new Supreme. Nan showed some new powers, she can control minds ! She almost burnt Madison’s vagina with her cigarette. That was hilarious ! I love my Nan.
And when she learnt about Luke’s death at the hospital, she paid a visit to Luke’s mother with Zoe. Nan wanted to say goodbye to her lover, but his mother cremated him. So, out of anger, she made her drink bleach. Nan is a murderer, but still she is a good witch. She wants to be the fair and honest Supreme, to change from Fiona. I think she would be a terrific choice, Nan is the best potential Supreme. She would change the dynamics of the Coven. The girl looked quite confident she is the next Supreme... Maybe a little too confident, that's probably why she died.

Yes, Marie and Fiona drowned innocent Nan in the bathtub. I was really sad to see her go. Sure wherever she’ll be will be better than in the Coven with Fiona, but she was my favorite witch. My favorites always get killed first still I was surprised how quick she died. Bye Bye Nan, I’ll miss your smile.
I didn't expect Fiona to act so quickly, and her attempt with Marie to "kill two birds in one stone" was a bit stupid overall. Of course, Papa Legba did not take Nan as the innocent soul. He still wants the baby and now Nan is in the afterlife. Hope she'll get reunited with Queenie and they came back to destroy Marie and Fiona, that'd be fun !
I'm also looking forward Fiona and Marie fighting against Papa Legba. I'm sure they will plan something against him, he's too powerful for them to let him be.

Madison had a moment of glory in this episode.
She tried to befriend Misty, but Misty is one suspicious witch. She knows she can’t trust Fiona, and she knows Madison is after her because of the next Supreme’s run. Still, Madison showed her how powerful she is now she is back from the dead. She can stop people, bring back dead people… Very nice and Supreme like.
Misty is still very naïve and felt in Madie’s trap. Of course, she did not want to get closer with her, she wanted to eliminate her. She found a nice way : put Misty in a coffin and then bury it. I’m quite certain Misty will be back and that will be the end of Madison but the girl deserved a little victory. It was fun watching her dance. It will be even funnier when she finally dies.

The episode ended on a song by Stevie Nicks, it was one of the best scene of American Horror Story. Jessica Lange proved herself to be the most amazing actress on television this year. With no words, just with her body, her face, her eyes, she gave so much dimensions to Fiona. Fiona is the evil witch but yet, she has humanity and feelings, and even if she is horrible, she killed Nan for God' shake, I still felt pity for her. The song was perfect. Fiona has nobody, because nobody can love her. She is too selfish and cruel.
I can’t believe Jessica Lange will quit AHS after next seaon, it will be weird to watch a season without her. But I will always remember Constance’ speech in the first season finale, Judy’s face to face with the Angel of Death and now, Fiona crying on the couch.

Spells notes :
• How do you think Madame LaLaurie spent her day ?
• No Kyle, No Spading,… This year is all about the women, right ?
•vWho’s your pick for the next supreme ? Madison, Zoe or Misty ? Zoe I most likely choice, but Misty’d be a great surprise.

And you, what did you think of this episode ? Put your spell books down and hit the comments !
