-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a big night for non-scripted programming with The Voice leading NBC to victory and The Bachelor concluding for the season on ABC. The Voice was the top-rated show overall with a rock-solid 9.1 rating/14 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., and the half-hour breakdown as follows:
The Voice (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 8.6/14 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 9.3/15 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 9.2/14 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 9.1/14 (#1)
Comparably, The Voice outdelivered year-ago occupants Chuck (3.3/ 5 on 3/14/11) and The Event (3.2/ 5) by a mammoth 180 percent.
Next on NBC was recent scripted entry Smash, which dipped to second with a 5.3/ 9 at 10 p.m. Comparably, Smash was down by nine percent from one week earlier (5.8/10 on March 5), with retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Voice of only 58 percent. While Smash will beat year-ago occupant Harry’s Law among adults 18-49, Harry’s Law was stronger in the overnights with a 7.1/11 on 3/14/11.
Over at ABC, The Bachelor concluded with a season-high 6.9/11 from 8-10 p.m., which only solidifies the future of this ongoing non-scripted relationship franchise. But one year earlier, it closed for the season with a stronger 9.0/14 on 3/14/11. Even so, you can still consider this a “winner.” Here is the half-hour breakdown:
The Bachelor (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 6.7/11 (#2)
8:30 p.m.: 6.6/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: 6.8/10 (#2)
9:30 p.m.: 7.6/11 (#2)
Perennial special, The Bachelor: After the Final Rose won the 10 p.m. hour with a 7.4/14 in the overnights. For Douglas Pucci’s review of The Bachelor season-ender, click here: http://tinyurl.com/7ed9eyo
Elsewhere, CBS ducked the battle of the reality blocks with encore telecasts of How I Met Your Mother (#3: 4.0/ 6), 2 Broke Girls (#3: 4.7/ 7), Two and a Half Men (#3: 5.3/ 8), Mike & Molly (#3: 5.0/ and Hawaii Five-O (#3: 5.2/ 8). Unfortunately, Two and a Half Men slipped by 21 percent from its year-ago encore telecast (6.7/10 on 3/14/11).
On Fox, recent entry Alcatraz finished a distant fourth at 9 p.m. with a 3.6/ 6 in the overnights. Compared to short-lived year-ago occupant Chicago Code (4.9/ 7 on 3/14/11), that was down by 27 percent. Earlier in the evening on Fox was a repeat of House at a fourth-place 2.5/ 4 at 8 p.m.
The CW populated this second Monday in March with encore telecasts of America’s Most Wanted: British Invasion (#4: 2.5/ 4) and Hart of Dixie (#5: 0.5/ 1).
