Hell on Wheels - Interview with Anson Mount

AMC is a network with a certain reputation. With shows such as Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead, any new drama entering the line-up has big boots to fill.

The network’s newest drama is the Western series “Hell on Wheels”. It stars Anson Mount as badass gun-slinger Cullen Bohannon. I had a chance to talk to Anson about the new series. He also talks about meeting his fellow AMC leading-males. This is a must-read. Here’s what he had to say.

Adam: Hell on Wheels is AMC’s newest original drama. Tell me how you got involved with the project. What were your initial thoughts when you heard the pitch or read the script?

Anson: For some reason, this is the first question everyone has for me and it’s the most involved answer. I’ll do my best to keep the answer simple. I was working on a play in New York (the revival of Lanford Wilson’s “Fifth of July”) when I got the script. After some prodding, I took the time during a very busy tech-week to read the first scene and then I couldn’t put it down. Thus began a marathon audition process which saw me flying to LA two Mondays in a row, each after a 5 show weekend and each time having to fly back on a red-eye to be ready for a Tuesday show. Finally, they gave me the part.
