Nikita - Season Finale - Pandora - Review

Last night was the season (hopefully not series) finale for Nikita and wow, what a brilliant end to a fantastic season. We saw closure to the season's big stories as well as new story lines begin. Basically, everything was thrown up into the air and it all changed!

Last week was part one of the finale. We were left hanging after Alex turns rogue and shoots Nikita after being told by Percy that it was Nikita who killed her father. Of course Nikita wasn't really dead, Alex had faked it to help set herself free from Division. Percy and Amanda are not fooled though, and Alex soon finds herself back in the hands of Amanda.

Amanda activates Alex's kill chip, and Alex dies ... but then Amanda brings her back. This was something I was not expecting from Amanda. I really enjoyed seeing this side of Amanda, I always felt there was something missing from her character, and that was certainly overcome last night. She advised Alex to run, and not go back to Nikita (which of course she did). It was nice to see Amanda has a different side to her and her character really shone for me.

Another character which really shone for me was Percy. It was great to see more of him last night, and I really thought his character came to life. He planned to take over the CIA but the actual head of Division (Oversight), had a different plan. After his plans failed it looks like Oversight will be using Amanda and Alex against him. Is this the end for Percy? Will Amanda be the new head of Division?

It was also different to see Nikita more vulnerable. Last night, after being weakened by Alex, was probably the most vulnerable we've seen Nikita and when she was captured, it was a reminder to us all that she is only human, like the rest of us. Nikita needed to stop "Operation Sparrow" - basically Percy's plan to kill people at the CIA by releasing the nerve gas Jaden stole a few episodes back. Of course she succeeds!

I was also surprised by Birkhoff last night who helped Nikita and Michael and betrayed Percy. I hope this means we get to see more of Birkhoff next season. At times, yes he's been annoying but he has lots of potential and now he's proven he's not just Percy's minion there is a chance to see him develop more. Michael also missed the opportunity to kill Percy. I can see why Michael didn't, it would have been a bit cliché if he had.

At the end, everything is different to how the season began. Nikita and Michael drive off together, without Alex, who is now in Oversight's hands. I really hope we don't lose the relationship between Nikita and Alex. I think it was a great story line for Alex to turn on Nikita and go rogue but I do love the way their characters have developed over the season and it would be a shame to forget that. I completely trust the writers though and if there is a season 2, I'm sure it won't be forgotten.

Overall, it wasn't my favourite episode of the season in terms of shocks but that just says how incredible this season has truly been. From day one, the writers have thrown everything up in the air adding twists and major surprises to almost every episode. The balance of emotion, action and suspense has been perfect and I can't even begin to describe how perfect each of the cast are with their characters. We've had more plot twists and suspense in one season than some shows have for their entire run.

It will be a crime if this show doesn't get a season 2 and I may have to consider going "Nikita" on the CW if it is cancelled. The actors and the writers/producers have worked extremely hard to produce a brilliant show and I can't think of one negative thing to say. Good luck for a season 2 is all I can say now. It is truly deserved.

I think that pretty much covers everything. What are your thoughts?
