V - Episode 2.04 - Unholy Alliance - Review

In 'Unholy Alliance' we saw V mix science fiction with religion as Anna is angered after Peace Ambassadors were murdered by the Fifth Column.

Erica meets her new partner, Chris, this week. They investigate the murders at the Visitor centres which leads them directly to Jack. Erica and Jack pretend not to know each other as Chris and Erica question Jack as to whether he is encouraging members of his church to be a part of the Fifth Column. Chris is suspicious of Jack and looks into him further behind Erica's back.

Anna sees that she needs to be accepted by a religious group so decides to approach the Cardinal in Vatican City to request that the Visitors are accepted by the Catholic Church and that they can speak no bad words about the Visitors. Of course Anna has allies inside the church, and after some persuasion, her wish is granted.

Meanwhile, Ryan is doing his best to win back his daughter. The team hunt down the leader of the Fifth Column to create a set up in order for Chris and Erica to be able to arrest someone related to the Peace Ambassador murders. Malik's story is also wrapped up as Chris and Erica find what is left of her. Ryan takes Malik's head (gross) back to Anna thinking this will get him his daughter back but she reveals she has more plans for him.

I really want to be able to say I enjoyed last night's episode but it was a bit too slow. The premiere made it seem like we were going to be moving really quickly this season with lots of suspense and possible battles between the Visitors and Humans but we haven't really seen any of that. We get that Anna is trying to take over the world, we are reminded every minute of every episode about that, but what is the season leading up to? There is no suspense for me anymore. Personally, I think ABC is to blame more than anything. They're not giving the show any encouragement or support and cutting the episode order down just showed their lack of the faith in the show.

I still appreciate the show, I just feel that V has lost something this season which made it exciting last season. I want to see more suspense, more mystery, more twists and for the show to be less predictable. Elizabeth Mitchell and Joel Gretsch are both brilliant in this show however, they manage to deliver a great performance every week and I love the chemistry they have.

I also love that V have gone down the religious route. It ties in really nicely with the "souls" storyline and the Visitors and it adds more meaning to the show. I am really enjoying this aspect of the show.

I hope V can pick up the pace for the remainder of the season.
