The Event star Bill Smitrovich has revealed details about the future of his character Vice President Jarvis.

He told the Los Angeles Times that the conflicted politician will leave hospital and return to the White House, following his betrayal of the President and near-death in an assassination attempt.

"I survived, I'm happy to say, and I'm going to be back after a... pretty long hospital stay. [It lasts] about a couple of episodes," he explained. "When I do come back, it's going to be an interesting dynamic to be in the White House and to have something on the President, while everyone else just thinks I'm the greatest vice president in the world. That's not so!"

Smitrovich also confirmed that the show's various story threads will begin to "collide" in future episodes.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," he said. "I'm going to have scenes with Sean (Jason Ritter) and Vicky (Taylor Cole). I don't know if I'll ever meet Thomas (Clifton Collins, Jr.) or Sophia (Laure Innes), but Dempsey (Hal Holbrook) and I will have some things to lock horns [about] down the road."

He added that new character Catherine Lewis (Virginia Madsen) will be "integral" to Jarvis's new story arc.

"Our storylines will collide and she's sort of a Sarah Palin-like character who is going to try to get some dirt on the President, but I think the Vice President will find an opportunity to weasel his way in there!" he suggested.

The Event returns to NBC with a double bill on February 28.
