Hellcats - Episode 1.08 - Back of a Car - Review

I'm really not sure what I think of Hellcats at the minute, I'm still very much sitting on the fence when it comes to this show.

In 'Back of a Car', we go deeper into the relationship between Dan and Marti. There has always been chemistry between them, are they just friends, or is their relationship more than this?

Savannah finally decides that she is ready to take things further with Dan and books a lush hotel suite for them to go to after the Hellcats 25th anniversary party. Throughout the episode, we see that Savannah is questioning Dan and Marti's relationship. She decides to talk to Marti about it. Marti tells Savannah that they are only friends, they only ever were friends and that's all they will ever be.

After the party, Savannah takes Dan back to the hotel. Earlier on in the night, he spoke to Marti about his feelings. While Dan was in the bathroom getting ready, he talks so Savannah about his first 'time'. When Dan reveals where it was, Savannah realises that this is the same as Marti and that they lost their virginity to each other. Savannah makes a dramatic exit.

I really don't know what to think about this storyline. It was extremely predictable. I have seen a lot of people comment that the show is turning into another 'One Tree Hill'. I just wanted Hellcats to be a bit more exciting and original than other similar teen shows. Instead, we seem to be going back to the usual love triangles and family problems! The story is also making me dislike Marti which isn't a good thing! Dan and Savannah are too cute together, they should be happy.

On a different note, I am loving Alice at the minute. Her storylines have been great and her character has really grown on me! Last night, we saw her befriend a journalist into writing about the Hellcats instead of the football team which was great. She makes me laugh and adds some much needed dynamic to the show.

Overall, an average episode from the show. It was great to see Dan and Savannah move ahead with their relationship I just wish the writers had done something a bit different with the twist. It was pretty clear from the start that Marti and Dan had a special connection so seeing something different would have been more exciting for me.

Let's hope the writers try to make things a little more exciting!
