Friday Night Lights - Episode 1.12 - Laboring - Recap

The Big Game
The big game between the Lions and the Panthers is coming up. And the people of Dillon are revved up for it; Coach is getting angry calls from crazed fans all hours of the night; their field even gets ripped up with trucks (a field they just fixed up for the big game.) I thought the Yankees-Redsox rivalry was bitter.

Throwing your principles out the window
Principal Taylor won the approval of the board last week to keep her job, but news of her advising Becky and the abortion has gotten out to the press; so she's getting her share of angry phone calls all hours of the night. The Taylors aren't very popular right now. The head of the board tells Principal Taylor if she doesn't make a public statement--a public apology--she won't be principal of Dillon High. She talks with a lawyer who says that she'd have a great case if she ever was fired, but things could drag out for years and she'd likely never get her job back.

One Small Step For Humanity, One Giant Leap For Julie
Julie talked with Matt last week and pretty much told him he could go to hell. She wants to become a full fledged Habitat for Humanity member; go through the training and build houses around the world. Sounds great until she asks her mother for permission and says the training is gonna cost $3000 and it starts in 3 weeks, causing her to miss the last year of High School. Mom says its a no-go and tells her help clean the stove :)

The Price of Horror
Things are turning into a horror movie for Vince.
He got mixed up with his street buddies again so he could pay for his mother's Rehab, but things went from bad to worse. Cal got shot and this week his other thug friend, Kennard, wants to get revenge. Jess tries to stop him from going, but he jumps in the car and drives off. He finally does come to his senses when Kennard is going over the plan: He shoots a few shots through the front door and Vince shoots him when he runs out the back. Vince gets out the car and walks away. Kennard shoots a few feet away from Vince, trying to scare him. But Vince holds firm then Kennard hits him with the gun and says this ain't over. Far from over.

Happy, Texas
Tim for most of this episode was happy. He helped his brother Billy at the birth of his son(Steven Hannibal Riggins)... The Riggins auto shop is doing great... He just bought that beautiful piece of land to build his dream house. He tells Becky that he's finally figured out life. Seeing how happy he is, Becky tells him that she's in love with him but Tim says it can't happen. After that things go from happy to crappy. While Tim is rocking out to some tunes, two cops walk in; they've got some questions about some missing cars.

We later see Tim and Billy in a holding cell. Billy tells Tim that he's sorry. Tim looks like he's about to cry.

The Game within the Big Game
It seems that Principal Taylor is going to play ball and make the public apology. And with the Lions field looking like chewed meat, the Panthers suggest that they play on their field. And thats whats going to happen. Coach has to play on the same field he had coached on just a few months ago and if he loses, it'll mean the Panthers make the playoffs. Insult on top of misery. We'll get the game in the season 4 finale next week.
