Covert Affairs - Episode 1.04 - No Quarter - Recap

So nobody seems to trust anybody this week on Covert Affairs. Information is getting out and Arthur is determined to be the CIA's plumber and fix all the leaks. I think there's one thing we can all agree on is the truth, Covert Affairs is becoming one of the biggest shows on Tv. So let's get to it, Spoilers Ahead.

The episode begins in the Zurich airport where Annie is doing a simple briefcase exchange with an Israeli agent. Her contact is supposed to be wearing an orange wrist band. But when two guys show up with orange wrist bands Annie doesn't know what to do. Before she can figure out what's going on, a flash bang goes off and she has to fight off one of her supposed contacts for her briefcase.

-Opening Credits-

So now instead of a quick exchange and hopping back on a plane, Annie finds herself stuck in Zurich and she tells Auggie she's going to hide her briefcase and head for the backup plan, the Turk. The Turk turns out to be a lady that runs a jewelry store. She takes Annie to a safehouse but the Turk forgot to mention that the safe house isn't empty. Annie and Ayel (played by Oded Fehr!) meet each other with a fight. He tries to strangle her before Annie tells him he's her contact, meant to exchange cases at the airport.

Back at CIA headquarters, Arthur (played by Peter Gallagher) is back. Someone is leaking information and he intends to find out who it is; and with the mission in Zurich going bad he's going to start with Joan's division.

Back in Zurich, Annie and Ayel become stuck in a mini-romantic comedy. They're stuck in a safe house with one bed; Annie is annoyed at Ayel because he thinks he knows everything. We get a lot of sexual innuendo: Ayel naked with his briefcase; a dominatrix outfit complete with rope and a whip; and Ayel sewing up a Annie's shoulder wound that turns into a near kiss! We definitely get all sides of Oded Fehr this episode.

All the fun comes to an end when the guy Annie fought off in the airport shows up with three goons. Annie and Ayel repel down an elevator shaft (using the dominatrix outfit and rope, of all things!) and Annie almost gets herself crushed by an elevator. With the goons hot on their trail Annie and Ayel get split up.

Arthur talks with Liza Hearn, the reporter who seems to be getting all the leaked information (we also saw her in the pilot.) He tells her if she puts any of his people in jeopardy by using leaked information, she won't like the consequences.

Annie heads back to the jewelry store and finds the Turk dead. Ayel pops up and says that he found her that way but Annie doesn't trust him. She tries calling CIA headquarters but Auggie isn't there; her new handler is some new guy she doesn't know. Ayel convinces her that there's a leak somewhere and the only thing to do now is complete the mission.

Back at CIA headquarters,
Arthur's investigation has Auggie interrogated. They ask if he's angry at the CIA because he went blind and is he leaking information to the press. Auggie says No.

Later, Arthur tells Joan that the the Zurich mission was compromised by a rogue Israeli agent, the same one thats been after Annie. At least for now Arthur seems to be trusting Joan and her division again, but only time will tell.

Annie and Ayel pick up Annie's briefcase and have to to turn a sweet bride into a Bridezilla to do it. But as they're driving away they get blindsided by a car full of the bad guys. Ayel skillfully disposes of the goons, shooting them while making his way out of the car wreckage. Moments later, the swiss police surround them and instead of arresting them take them to the airport where they finally exchange briefcases. Annie gives Ayel a longing look as he walks away. Yeah, we want to see him again too.
