TV comedy legend Carol Burnett will take a turn for the dramatic in a March episode of "Law & Order: SVU."
Burnett will guest-star in the March 17 episode, NBC says, playing a former dancer who's connected to the murder of a young couple. It will be her first TV appearance since she guested on "Desperate Housewives" in 2006.
"Having Carol Burnett on 'SVU' is a dream come true," executive producer Neal Baer says. "When you grow up wanting to be a writer, you can count on one hand the actors you'd give anything to work with. Carol Burnett is my thumb."
Burnett is a six-time Emmy winner, with honors for her long-running CBS series "The Carol Burnett Show," an early 1960s special with Julie Andrews, and most recently, for guest-starring on "Mad About You" in the 1996-97 season. She says she's looking forward to appearing on "SVU."
"Every time I mention to someone that I'm about to work on 'Law & Order: SVU,' they immediately say 'Oh, that's my favorite show!'" she says. "I'm so glad that they all share my opinion."
