    Ratings Breakdown:
Note: MSNBC aired the Presidential Democratic Debate from 9-11 p.m.

Fox took center stage in the Thursday overnights, besting No. 2 CBS by 0.7 rating points thanks to a 6.2 rating/10 share in the household overnights for “American Idol” from 8-10 p.m. But CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” featuring Oscar nominated actress June Squibb, topped the night as always at a 9.9/16 in the 8 p.m. half-hour.

Next on CBS was freshman “Life in Pieces” (#2: 5.7/ 9 at 8:30 p.m.), which slipped by a too extensive 42 percent and is not the type of sitcom that can anchor an hour. “Mom,” featuring guest star Rosie O’Donnell, scored a typical 5.2/ 8 in the overnights at 9 p.m. (#2t), followed by recent entry “Angel From Hell” at a fourth-place 4.1/ 6 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, “Angel From Hell” slipped by 16 percent from the 4.9/ 8 for a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” on the year-ago evening and is no better than former time period occupant “The McCarthys” last season.

DVR-friend Eye net crime solver “Elementary” tied competing “Shades of Blue” on NBC, each with a 4.0/ 7 in the overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, that was 22 percent below “Madoff: After the Fall” on ABC (#1: 5.1/ 8). The alphabet net special led out of the conclusion of four-hour miniseries “Madoff,” which averaged a 5.1/ 8 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, a 5.5/ 8 for part one of “Madoff” on Wednesday translated into 7.08 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/4 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. In other words, not bad.

In week two news, NBC dramedy “You, Me and the Apocalypse” sunk a distant 2.3/ 4 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was 30 percent below the 3.3/ 5 last Thursday. And that 3.3 translated into 5.02 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data).

Next on NBC was already renewed “The Blacklist” at a 4.6/ 7 (#3) from 9-10 p.m., followed by aforementioned “Shades of Blue” at a 4.0/ 7 at 10 p.m. (#2). Of positive note for “The Blacklist” and “Shades of Blue” is the stellar DVR usage. Based on the most recent Live + 7 Day results, “Shades of Blue” in adults 18-49 rose from a 1.3 to a 2.6 rating in the demo. That made it the show with the largest growth in the demo for that week (with an additional 4.7 million viewers in total).

The CW capped off the evening with recent entry “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (#5: 1.7/ 3), which dropped by 11 percent from the 1.9/ 3 last week, and on-the-fence “The 100” (#5: 1.0/ 2).
