    “Scream Queens” (Fox)

    -Sinking:
    “The Muppets” (ABC)

    ———–

    -Ratings Breakdown:
CBS scored a clean household overnight sweep with its combination of “NCIS” (10.4 rating/17 share), sophomore “NCIS: New Orleans” (8.7/14) and week three of “Limitless” (6.1/11), which dropped by only two-tenths of a rating point (or three percent) from the 6.3/11 one week earlier. Comparably, that 6.3 in the overnights translated into 9.73 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/7 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. And last night’s performance should be enough to guarantee a full season episode order for “Limitless.”

In season-premiere news, sophomore “The Flash” on The CW returned with a 2.7/ 4 in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was 21 percent below the 3.4/ 5 series debut on the year-ago evening. That translated into a record 4.83 million viewers and a 1.9/ 6 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. In other words, these initial overnights for “The Flash” from last night are still solid.

Airing out of “The Flash” was the season two premiere of ‘iZombie” at a 1.1/ 2 (#5) at 9 p.m. While you certainly cannot determine the success, of lack of, for any show on The CW based on the overnights, retention out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of “The Flash” (2.6/ 4) was only 42 percent. And this was 42 percent below the season premiere of “Supernatural” (1.9/ 3) on the year-ago evening.

In week two news, Fox sitcoms “Grandfathered” and “The Grinder” suffered double-digit erosion after getting off to only modest starts last week. “Grandfathered” opened with a 3.0/ 5 in households at 8 p.m., which was 25 percent below the 4.0/ 6 opener last week (and that translated into 5.34 million viewers and a 1.5/ 5 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data). Next was “The Grinder” at a 2.5/ 4 (#5) at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 34 percent. That resulted in only 4.98 million viewers and a 1.5/ 5 in adults 18-49 for “The Grinder.”

Fox’s “Scream Queens” at 9 p.m., which is a hit in social media, dipped to a 2.2/ 3 from 9-10 p.m., which was 12 percent below the 2.5/ 4 in the overnights one week earlier.

Over at ABC, week three of the revival of “The Muppets” (#3: 3.3/ 5 at 8 p.m.) dropped by a hefty 21 percent from the 4.2/ 7 one week earlier. And this was only 14 percent above the 2.9/ 5 for failed year-ago occupant “Selfie.” Expect in the vicinity of a 1.6 rating in adults 18-49 for “The Muppets” (versus a 2.0 one week earlier, and a 2.9/11 in week one). Lead-out “Fresh Off the Boat” was identical at a 3.3/ 5 at 8:30 p.m., which was equal to one week earlier, and it led into a 2.9/ 5 (#3) for “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, “SHIELD” was on par from the year-ago night, which is good for a mid-to-high 1-rating in adults 18-49.

An encore telecast of “Quantico” capped off the night for ABC with a 2.4/ 4 (#3) at 10 p.m. Next week, look for the return of “Shark Tank” spin-off “Beyond the Tank” at 10 p.m.

NBC, meanwhile, populated the evening with a two-hour encore telecast of “The Voice,” which was still on the map with a 5.9/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. And that led into week four of “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris” at a series low 3.2/ 6 (#2) at 10 p.m., which dropped by 20 percent from the 4.0/ 7 last week minus the original support from “The Voice.” Next week, “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris” moves into the Tuesday 8 p.m. hour and will have to stand on its own. In other words, do not expect much.
