Good news for 24 fans! Executive producer Howard Gordon has just confirmed the eighth season is most definitely coming—and soon!
Says Gordon, "We're gearing up for a May start date. I'm with the writers now just putting our heads together, coming up with an idea. Unless we fail to come up with an idea that's satisfactory, you'll see an eighth season." Holler!
And if that weren't exciting enough, Annie Wersching is confirmed to return next season, which might mean some lovin' for Mr. Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), except that Gordon also teased a shocking death—could it even be Jack Bauer finally kicking the bucket?
Survey says: Not yet!
While the eighth season is secure, that doesn't mean Jack Bauer is. Gordon told us at TCA that a post-season-eight movie is likely, but apparently producers don't have their hearts set on it. Gordon said today, "We may decide ultimately if there's not a movie [story] worth telling, Jack may see his last day on television. He could die in the series...I think that's possible."
Now it's time for some goodies about Monday's major two-hour episode...
White House Drama: As I reported back in November, the White House is going to be attacked. As with any big 24 event, there will be plenty of deaths and a big hostage standoff. "These guys are in scuba gear, breaking through subterranean rock. Obviously it's more like a James Bond film than a documentary on how one would try to breach the White House," says Gordon. Still, pretty amazing...
Jack and Renee Sitting in a Tree: Even though Dubaku (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) is in the hospital, there's another Dubaku—his son—gunning for Renee (Annie Wersching). Renee's life is definitely in danger, but fret not! Gordon assures us that Agent Walker sticks around until next season, saying, "This season they establish the emotional framework for a relationship. We're going to see that manifested in the eighth season. It's definitely part of our plan, but it's not a romance in the traditional sense of the word. It's a lot more broken and jagged than what you might imagine."
Chloe's Baby Bump Ahoy: They have finally found their way to get Chloe offscreen so Mary-Lynn Rajskub could go have her baby. Gordon says, "She's going to be in some big trouble—she'll have to repair her legacy." But Chloe eventually returns, and the FBI desperately needs her later this season. "You'll see there is a distinction with what CTU was once able to do and what FBI is able to do, and that gets brought into relief when Chloe reenters the story at a later point," adds Gordon.
Big Bad Jonas: Finally, we really get to meet Jonas Hodge (Jon Voight) in Monday night's big event. We knew he had close ties to the government after seeing him on the presidential steps before the inauguration, but Gordon says, "You will get a full-bodied explanation of Jon Voight's motivations. He is in the tradition of all our best villains: very complicated, megalomaniacal and, in his view, well intentioned. You'll know in all its operatic glory why he's done what he's done." That doesn't sound too good for Jack!
So should Jack and Renee end up happily ever after? Hit the comments with your thoughts.

You know what they say about great minds...
A week after I floated the idea of Brittany Snow playing a young Lily in The CW's forthcoming Gossip Girl spin-off, the former American Dreams ingénue has emerged as the front-runner for the role! This Just in: Her deal has closed! It's official!
It's Emily VanCamp all over again!
The GG offshoot will be set in Los Angeles and chronicle the teen years of Kelly Rutherford's alter ego.
Snow joins a cast that includes Krysten Ritter (as Lily's older sis) and Jericho's Shilo Fernandez (as brooding valley punk).
The backdoor pilot will air May 11 as part of a regular Gossip Girl episode. The show is considered a lock to land on The CW's fall schedule.
In conclusion, I have this message for Snow's agent: At least half of that 10 percent commission is mine, mine, mine! (But I'll settle for a third.)

Tune-in alert! If you're a Brothers & Sisters fan (and you should be), you should know that Sunday's two-hour episode a huge deal—and a literal heartbreaker.
Major stuff goes down with Rob Lowe's character Robert McCallister, and the much-discussed medical crisis that happens simultaneously with the birth of his and Kitty's (Calista Flockhart) new kid is just the beginning.
McCallister's brush with death means he faces a fork in the road of his life and a ton of major emotion to go with it, and sources tell me this ep is definitely an Emmy submission for Lowe. From what I'm hearing, we're all going to cry our eyes out during the course of Sunday's two-hour event.
Exactly what goes down? Check out the sneak peeks and a spoiler bonus below:
Spoiler Bonus: As Kitty says in the first sneak above, Kitty and Robert have been having a lot of misunderstandings lately. Unfortunately, by the end of the episode, misunderstandings will be tactful code for giant, devastating blowup. Things are about to get very, very heated for Mr. and Mrs. McCallister. Can they pull through?
Tune in to Brothers & Sisters on Sunday at 9 p.m. to find out.

The following scoop will take place between January 2010 and May 2010. All forthcoming spoilers will occur in real time.
Could it be that Jack Bauer is clock-blocked no more and will finally find time for a new romance?
24 executive producer Howard Gordon says that the increasingly intense moments between the disgraced CTU agent and his Season 7 sidekick, FBI agent Renee Walker, are leading to some good — if complicated — loving.
"They have established the emotional framework for a relationship that I think we're going to see manifested in the eighth season," Gordon tells TVGuide.com. "It's definitely part of our plan."
In the Fox thriller's latest hour, Renee slapped Jack — twice — before breaking down in his arms, distraught over the indirect role they played in an innocent woman's death. Of course, said tragedy came in the name of stopping the latest terrorist threat on U.S. soil.
Jack being Jack, whatever may come for him and Renee won't come easy. Says Gordon, "It's not a romance in the traditional sense of the word. It's a lot more broken and jagged than what you might imagine."
Since losing his wife to Original CTU Mole Nina at the climax of Season 1, Jack has only hooked up with Audrey Raines (played by Kim Raver) and trailer-park hottie Diane (the woefully underused Connie Britton). And where are they both these days? Gone.
As such, stepping into the role of Jack's next love interest had to be a daunting prospect for Annie Wersching. However, Gordon raves, the 24 newcomer "has really connected with the audience. I think she's done a spectacular job and we're extremely proud of her."
What's your take, 24 fans? Is Renee worthy of going under covers with Jack?

Katie Cassidy, the daughter of David Cassidy, is the first female resident moving into the CW's new "Melrose Place," while Steven R. McQueen, grandson of Steve McQueen, landed a lead on another CW pilot, "Vampire Diaries."
On "Melrose Place," to be directed by David Guggenheim, Cassidy will play the sexy and stylish Ella Flynn, an up-and-coming publicist with a big career ahead of her.
She joins Michael Rady, who was cast as aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller.
Cassidy, repped by Endeavor and Anonymous, next co-stars on CBS' limited drama series "Harper's Island," a "Ten Litle Indians"-style mystery story set on a remote island. She recurred on CW's "Supernatural" and the WB's "7th Heaven."
"Vampire Diaries," from "Scream" and "Dawson's Creek" mastermind Kevin Williamson, is based on Alloy's series of books. It centers on Elena, a tragic young heroine who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers -- one good, one evil -- who are at war for her soul and for the souls of her friends, family and other residents of the small town in which she resides.
McQueen will play Jeremy, Elena's outcast cute younger brother.
McQueen, who recurred on the WB's "Everwood," is repped by ICM and manager Risa Shapiro.

From TV Guide:
Stars from 15 years of ER scrubbed in as the veteran medical show approaches its series finale on April 2. Among them: Noah Wyle, whose saintly doc Carter arrives from Darfur with both his marriage and his only remaining kidney failing. "This story line is going to bring Eriq La Salle back and, tangentially, Julianna Margulies," says exec producer David Zabel. (We hear George Clooney also plays a part in Carter's story, as does guest Susan Sarandon.) "I get to play a lot with Eriq," reveals Wyle. "Dr. Benton just happens to be on staff at the hospital where I'm having dialysis." Maura Tierney also makes a cameo visit. Says Zabel, "There will be a lot of great stories and great moments."
Also, Susan will be back:
Sherry Stringfield is returning to ER, a source close to the deal has confirmed to TVGuide.com.
Stringfield's participation is the latest in a slew of alums who have signed off to send off the show in its final season, a group that already includes Anthony Edwards, Julianna Margulies and George Clooney.
Stringfield played Dr. Susan Lewis on NBC's medical drama from 1994-1996 and then returned to the show in 2001 for another four seasons. No word on how Dr. Lewis will reappear this time.

Thanks to Mumu for the heads up.
It looks like Chad Michael Murray might not be the only longtimer bidding adieu to One Tree Hill come Season 7.
Not long after the CW announced another pick-up for the serial, The Chad's leading lady, Hilarie Burton, issued what for all intents and purposes is a goodbye message to her fans.
All but confirming an online report that she, like Murray, won't be continuing her run, Burton says in a video posted to her Wilmington, North Carolina-based production company's website, "I want to clear up one thing that's very important to me. I want everyone to know how much I love Peyton Sawyer, and my crew.... I don't want anyone to think I'm abandoning a place that's been very good to me."
Occasionally pausing and visibly trying to maintain her composure, she says, "I've had a really good run, and I wish I had creative control over the show, and I don't. But if I did, it would go on for a million years, and Peyton Sawyer would cry for you all the time — because she does that." So true.
Burton's gloriously selfless spin on the otherwise sad sitch? Another season of Tree Hill means ongoing employment for the show's North Carolina crew.
Watch TVGuide.com's on-the-set videos with Hil (here and here) to remind yourself of what a truly cool gal we may be saying farewell to here. (In retrospect, I guess I should have slow-danced with her when I had the chance.)
A spokesperson for the CW has no comment on the Season 7 status of either Burton or Murray.

I don't think so. We'll be seeing Charmaine with another guy within the next month or so. Someone she likes enough to bring to her sister's house.
Hi Korbi, Thanks for the great updates and spoilers. Can I ask for some more scoop on The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother? -zekat
Regarding BBT, the boys will get a new neighbor soon. I hear she's a lovely-looking young lady who gets all the guys under her spell. She's a bit manipulative, so I don't think she'll stick around long, but definitely long enough to make Penny very jealous, which I look forward to seeing... As for HIMYM, seems Marshall will start coaching a youth basketball team, possibly at Lily's school.

If you've been following the saga of the Gossip Girl spinoff, you may have heard that American Dreams star Brittany Snow was in the running to play the future Lily van der Woodsen (née Rhodes and played by Kelly Rutherford on the existing show, of course).
Well, we caught up with confirmed spinoff castmember Krysten Ritter last night at the premiere party for her current show, Breaking Bad, and she revealed that Snow is a go to play her sister!
She told us exclusively, "They just cast Brittany Snow. It's definitely official, and I think I'm the first one to know that. It wasn't official earlier, I saw on the Internet, but now it is official."
But what else does she know about the characters and, most important, their hair? Here's what Krysten dished...
Krysten says of her role as Carol Rhodes, "I'm so excited. I scored. It's a fantastic part. The character is so good—she's a total badass black sheep of the family. It's set in the '80s."
As for the casting of her new baby sister, little Lily, Krysten thinks, "It's going to be so good. I'm excited. I think that her and I together will have a great time, and it's going to center around both of us and I think it's going to be good."
And regarding the terribly important issue of hairstyles, Krysten says, "I think I'm probably staying with the black hair, and I think she's probably going blond. But I'm sure it will be all crimped, and…bust out the Aqua Net!" (Hell to the yes.)

It's pure nerd-vana on the March 9 episode of CBS' The Big Bang Theory when Summer Glau — butt-kicking Cameron on Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles — guest-stars as herself. And this photo is a first look at what is ostensibly the gang's reaction to stumbling upon (perhaps literally) the sci-fi siren.
How do Leonard, Sheldon et al come to be within sniffing distance of the brunette beauty? The unlikely, would-be encounter comes to pass as the boys trek to a sci-fi convention, only to realize that one of its biggest draws is riding the same train as them.
Also appearing in the sweeps episode — and giving TV's "fourth wall" an equally fun nudge — is Nobel Laureate Dr. George Smoot, aka the father of the Big Bang Theory of Creation. But in all fairness, his abs don't look as good as Summer's.

Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair is taking a permanent residence in the 90210 ZIP code.
On the heels of the freshman CW show's renewal, Sinclair has inked a new seven-figure deal with "90210" producer CBS Par and has been tapped to serve as executive producer/showrunner on the high school drama for the next two seasons.
Sinclair joined "90210" as an exec producer in September, when she inked a two-year overall deal with CBS Par.
Under the pact, she was to run the writers room this season, working alongside exec producers/showrunners Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, then segue into development while serving as a consultant if "90210" returned for a sophomore year.
With her new deal, Sinclair has been given the show's reins through the 2010-11 season.
Sachs and Judah likely will depart at the end of this season.
At the studio and network, Sinclair had emerged as the clear choice to run the show because she is credited with elevating "90210" creatively since coming aboard. But she said the decision to stay on was not easy.
"I wasn't even considering it until almost a month ago," Sinclair said. "I was sure that absolutely, positively there was no way back."
Sinclair came to "90210" as a big fan of the original. She was the same age as the class from the Fox series. She cut her bangs the same way as Brenda (Shannen Doherty) and even went to her prom in the same dress Brenda and Kelly (Jennie Garth) wore to theirs.
But Sinclair admits her early experience on the CW series was rocky.
"I felt the show was confused and too cynical for me," she said.
But something happened around the making of Episode 17, which will mark the show's return to originals March 31, in its new 9 p.m. Tuesday slot.
"I started to see my voice," Sinclair said. "I found myself invested in the potential of the show. I want to change it; I want to make it good. It has the potential to be an iconic, modern, stylish teen drama."
Like the CW's East Coast fashion trend-setter "Gossip Girl," "90210" will tap much deeper into California style and fashion next season, according to Sinclair.
While she hinted that the season finale will feature surprise visits from "Beverly Hills, 90210" alums, don't expect a lot of that next season.
While the character of Kelly is organic to "90210's" setting and Sinclair admits she loves Tori Spelling's Donna, who will appear later this season, "the goal is for this show to emerge on its own," she said. "It's time to take off the training wheels and let this show ride by itself."
As for the show's core cast, producers are figuring out whether all of the characters will come back, the UTA-repped Sinclair said.
