The upcoming 2016/2017 network season offers a wide range of premiering shows populated by legal dramas (Conviction, Bull, Notorious), time travel (Timeless, Time After Time, Making History, Travellers), and spin-offs and remakes (Frequency, Lethal Weapon, Taken, Training Day, Blacklist: Redemption, and 24: Legacy). We will also see the return of Kiefer Sutherland to the small screen (not as Jack Bauer), an intriguing baseball drama, and much more. These are the most anticipated new network shows by the SpoilerTV team.

Designated Survivor
(ABC, September 21; Chosen by Andy, Pablo, Marco, Jennise, Jessica, Jamie, Kollin, and Laura)

This political drama, that sees the return of Kiefer Sutherland to the small screen, is inarguably the most hyped and anticipated show this fall. The former 24 star will play the last remaining cabinet member sworn in to office after the president and all other cabinet members are tragically lost in a mass explosion. The show looks to be a heart pounding, suspenseful drama and the big hit of the new season. Let's hope it lives up to expectations. Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Natascha McElhone also star.

Frequency
(CW, October 05; Chosen by: Aashay, Aimee, Andy, Tyler James, Marco, Jennise)

Based on the Gregory Hoblit 2000 film of the same name, the remake is by Supernatural vet, Jeremy Carver, and it centers around a detective who discovers she is able to speak to her deceased father by ham radio. Together they work on an unresolved murder case. Peyton List (Mad Men, The Tomorrow People) will star as the central character.

Pitch
(Fox, September 22; Chosen by: Aimee, Jamie, Jessica, Pablo)

A must see for sports and baseball fans, especially, Pitch is the first scripted television program to be associated with Major League Baseball. The show will focus on a young female pitcher who becomes the first woman to play in the majors, as part of the San Diego Padres. Relative newcomer Kylie Bunbury (Under the Dome, Tut) will star in the titular role.

This is Us
(NBC, September 20; Chosen by: Luana, Jessica, & Tyler)

If the trailers are any indication, this NBC dramedy, from the writers and directors of Crazy, Stupid, Love, will be a feel-good, provocative, and honest character driven exploration of the intertwining lives of people born on the same day. The cast features Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, and Sterling K. Brown.

Lethal Weapon
(Fox, September 21; Chosen By: Aashay & Luana)

Lethal Weapon continues the film to TV remake craze. Starring Clayne Crawnford as Riggs, the role made famous by Mel Gibson, and Damon Wayans Sr. replacing Danny Glover as Murtagh, the series brings to viewers another action packed, humorous buddy cop show.

Timeless
(NBC, October 3; Chosen by: Aimee & Tyler).

2016 is the year of time travel. Legends of Tomorrow kicked things off back in January on the CW and for the 2016/2017 season we will see Time after Time on ABC, Making History on Fox, Travellers on Netflix and Showcase, and this, Timeless, on NBC, the most anticipated of the four on the SpoilerTV team. The science fiction drama will see a trio consisting of a history professor, a soldier, and scientist traveling back in time to catch a criminal hell bent on changing American history. The series marks creator Eric Kripke's third go around after the very successful and still going, Supernatural, and the failed, Revolution, in 2012.

Speechless
(ABC, September 21; Chosen By: Laura & Marco)

Minnie Driver takes a stab at comedy on the silver screen in this ABC show about a mother and the challenges she and her far from perfect family face as they move from a middle-class neighbourhood to an upscale town.

Conviction
(ABC, October 23; Chosen By: Jamie & Laura)

It did not take long for Hayley Atwell to a find a new home following the cancellation of Agent Carter. The British-American actress stars as a brilliant lawyer and former First Daughter who is blackmailed into heading the Conviction Integrity Unit, a department that re-examines cases where there is credible suspicion of wrongful conviction. Emily Kinney, Shawn Ashmore, and Eddy Cahill also star.

24: Legacy
(FOX, February 5; Chosen By: popcultureguy, Kollin Lore)

Another spin-off of a popular show, Legacy sees rising actor Cory Hawkins replacing Kiefer Sutherland in the lead role as a new character, Eric Carter, an ex-Army Ranger racing against the clock to stop a large scale terrorist attack. Having played Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton and the innocent Heath in The Walking Dead, Hawkins has surely been beefing up his resume in his young career with some diverse roles. Can 24 survive though without the presence of Jack Bauer?

The Blacklist: Redemption (NBC, TBD; Chosen By: Kollin Lore)

A spinoff of the hit James Spader led crime thriller, Redemption stars Famke Janssen as Susan Hargrave, president of a private military company with teams of corporate operatives. Both Ryan Eggold and Edi Gathegi from the original series also star as Tom Keen and Matias Solomon, respectively. Janssen is no Spader, but this sister show looks to have a stronger ensemble with Tawny Cypress and Adrian Martinez rounding out the team of operatives.

Notorious
(ABC, September 22; Chosen By: Luana)

This legal drama follows the relationship between an attorney and a television producer as they attempt to control the media, the justice system, and each other. Criminal defence attorney Mark Geragos and Larry King Live news producer Wendy Walker serve as the inspiration for the two characters, who will be portrayed by Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata.

Riverdale
(CW, TBD; Chosen By: Aashay)

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of Archie, the series is a teen drama, live action take on the popular comic of the same name. This will be a change of pace for executive producer Greg Berlanti who is currently heading Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl of the CW DCverse.

Emerald City
(NBC, January 6; Chosen By: Kollin Lore)

This is a dark and edgy re-imagining of the classic Land of Oz book series by L. Frank Baum. Cancelled by NBC before entering production due to creative differences, the fantasy series was brought back to life with a new show runner, David Schulner, and Tarsem Singh attached as director of all 10 episodes. This show has doomed written all over it, but it is hard not to get the least bit excited for a maturer take on such a classic story featuring a K9 German Shepherd as Toto! Dorothy will be portrayed by Adria Arjona and Vincent D'Onofrio also stars as The Wizard.

When We Rise
(ABC, TBD; Chosen by: Pablo)

This ABC miniseries written by Dustin Lance Black (Big Love, Milk) tackles LGBT and the gay rights movements, a topic dear to the acclaimed screenwriter, filmmaker, and producer. The 8-hour period piece will chronicle the history of the gay rights movement by exploring the personal and political lives of various LGBT men and women. The cast features Guy Pearce, Mary-Louise Parker, Rachel Griffiths, and Michael Kenneth Williams.
