The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2014 - Day 17 - Round 2: Agents of SHIELD vs. Battlestar Galactica & The Blacklist vs. Angel

24 Sept 2014

Hey all,

Round One has been and gone, ending with The Borgias beating M*A*S*H, and House taking victory over Desperate Housewives.

Let's take a quick look at some of the results from the first round. Our first poll in the entire competition saw Arrow, one of our seeded shows, lose at the hands of comic book rival Marvel with its ABC show Agents of SHIELD. Arrow was the first seeded show to crash out in the first round, but it certainly wasn't the last. Legend of the Seeker lost to The Blacklist, though to those of you (like me) who hadn't even heard of the show, it may not come as a major surprise. Dominion went out at the hands of Doctor Who. Breaking Bad, seen by fans and critics alike as the best show ever made, lost to Firefly. Finally, Game of Thrones went out with Hannibal doing the honours of beating it.

On the contrary, let's look at the seeded shows that went through. Castle triumphed over Gilmore Girls. Fringe knocked out Chuck, Once Upon a Time beat The Office. Unsurprisingly, LOST beat Hawaii Five-0 (if you're wondering why I say unsurprisingly, listen to the first 28 minutes of this podcast). Reigning champion Supernatural progressed over Nikita. Buffy beat The Vampire Diaries, Beauty and the Beast beat Alias, FRIENDS beat The Walking Dead, How I Met Your Mother beat The Tomorrow People, Outlander beat Bones and as I mentioned earlier, The Borgias beat M*A*S*H.

Some other shows that went out were The Big Bang Theory, Sons of Anarchy, Sleepy Hollow and The Good Wife. Obviously, you can see the full set of results in the draw below. And, without any further ado, we move into Round Two...

Today we see Agents of SHIELD take on Battlestar Galactica, which knocked out One Tree Hill in the last round. We then move on and have The Blacklist face Angel.

Reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for your favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
4) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.

  6. While i love both AoS and BSG i have to go with BSG. Angel is a no-brainer as well.

  7. The Blacklist and AoS !

  8. Just Battlestar Galactica for me today.
AoS got really interesting after the events of The Winter Soldier but BSG is simply one of my all time favourite shows.
Never watched Angel or The Blacklist.

  9. I know Battlestar Galactica will undoubtedly loss but i loved the show, especially the first two seasons,so my vote goes to BSG.

How can anyone not vote for James Spader? Its Red & Liz hands down!

  10. Not looking good for me today. :( Two of my favorite shows of all time, Angel and Battlestar. Doesn't look like they're going through though. Funny, seeing as how the other shows are only in their first seasons. Hmm.

  11. AoS, still a bit bumped that AoS kicked out Arrow. It was a Finale match for me. Voted for AoS, cause it's on the top three of my current shows. Second one was tough. Loved Angel but voted for The Blacklist, Teen Connor ruined Angel for me.

  12. Overall I was really impressed with BSG. AoS is getting there but needs more time.

Never watched Angel, so The Blacklist.

  16. BSG was an incredible Sci Fi remake in 2004 and while I enjoy AoS occasionally, and find it's a nice extension of the MCU, it hasn't hit that level that BSG worked on...

  17. Agents of SHIELD & The Blacklist by default.

I've seen all 4 shows so one of my more honest voting sessions:

I know a lot of people dislike the religious nature of a sci-fi show but I felt it was something that made Battlestar Galactica unique and worth watching. Agents of Shield had a strong first season finish but had a rather dull beginning and I'm still a little miffed they had Brad Douriff on for little more than a cameo. Overall, BSG was a great story from beginning to end. AoS needs a full strong season before it can be considered good. So, grab your gun and bring the cat in, I vote for BSG.

Huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I thought Angel was a great character. But the show itself, I tend to lose interest midway through the second season. As for The Blacklist, I felt it had a magnificently strong freshman season and it's a binge-worthy show. Gotta go with The Blacklist.

  20. Well,to be honest,I will continue to missing out when it comes to Angel.I tried Buffy for a couple of seasons and while it was definitely fun,for some reason,I wasn't really interested.I don't think the spin off would have much luck with me.
I will however give The Blacklist a chance at some point,if only for James Spader.I'm hearing pretty good things about it lately. : )

  21. I agree!

    Side thought:
Is it just me ? - but it seems that people are voting for Current shows and older shows not so much..... Just because it's a current show doesn't make it a better show.

  22. SHIELD and Angel

as much as I enjoy Blacklist it's just not as engaging as Angel. With Blacklist you always get the feeling of watching another procedural in terms of style and writing.

Angel on the other hand...a superb show with enough atmosphere to pull you in from the first second!

  23. thing is Angel is different from Buffy, in a good way.

Buffy was heavy on the humor aspect while Angel embraces the noir factor

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well unfortunately that's usually the case. Current shows have much more active fan bases. Older shows don't usually go that far in this competition.

    ReplyDelete
  25. True ...... Sad though

  26. This one is just mean. Starbuck vs May? Angel vs Red? I have to go with nostalgia. Battlestar Galactica and Angel.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Agents of Shield for me (I've never seen Battlestar). I also went with Angel. I tried to like The Blacklist, I really did! I watched about 80% of the first season but I just never clicked with it. I thought that the acting was great, that siege of the blacklist site episode was pretty damn good but the rest of it I found a little boring to be honest.

  28. Voted for the underdogs, Battlestar Galactica, and Angel good luck they're sure going to need it :)

  29. BattleStar Galactica!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. AoS vs BSG. It's my favorite show today vs one of my favorite shows ever. I don't know how to chose between them. :(

  31. LoL! I see that kind of thing from him in Bones!

    ReplyDelete
  32. also getting that on Bones?

  33. I just want to see AOS go.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No votes for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  35. BSG because I have always wanted to check that out...no interest in Agents of Shield whatsoever.

Angel because I LOVE that show <3

    ReplyDelete
  36. AoS and The Blacklist today. BSG was good but dragged for me, not sure that I have actually seen all the episodes all the way thru. AoS was guilty of this on the front nine but after Cap2, it took off and hasn't looked back! The Blacklist because James Spader. Always James Spader!

    ReplyDelete
  37. For the second poll my vote goes to The Blacklist, but the first one is SO CRUEL!!! I just don't know what to go for, I loved BSG, used to watch it with my dad, but AoS is one of my current favourites!!! What to do?
I'll go with AoS because my poor shipper heart never got over Starbucks/Apollo not ending together, I shipped them since the miniseries, and it broke my heart when Kara just went... puff!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Battlestar Galactica and Angel

    ReplyDelete
  39. AoS. I hear BSG was awesome, though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Go AoS and Blacklist, so happy they are winning. But that will mean that they will face each other in the next round. I am going to have a really hard time with that.

    ReplyDelete
  41. AOS and Blacklist (Angel wasn't bad but imho Blacklist given time is going to be much better)

    ReplyDelete
  42. BG and The Blacklist!

    ReplyDelete
  43. HOW is Angel losing this?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I did expect Angel to win, but I'm kinda glad it didn't, because I couldn't have decided between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Angel next round! People have made the choice easier for me! ^_^
