ABC topped this final Tuesday of the traditional (September to May) TV season care of the two-hour season-finale of “Dancing With the Stars,” which scored a dominant 10.3 rating/16 share in the household overnights from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, that was just four percent below the 10.7/17 on the year-ago evening and it bested competing “The Voice” on NBC (7.0/11, also the season-ender) by 47 percent. One year earlier, “The Voice” concluded with 9.6/16 on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 (on a less competitive evening, of course). Despite this notable loss of 27 percent in the overnights, “The Voice” should still lead NBC to victory in all the key young adult demos.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was “Dancing With the Stars: The Road to the Finals” at a 7.8/13 from 8-9 p.m. versus “The Voice” Recap on NBC at a 4.5/ 8. Looking forward, there is every reason to believe both “Dancing With the Stars” and “The Voice” will continue to resonate next season.
In series-premiere news, Fox goofy reality competition “I Wanna Marry Harry” was DOA at a 1.5/ 2 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m., which tied the season-finale of competing “Supernatural” on The CW and dropped from lead-in “American Idol” (#2: 4.7/ 8 from 8-9 p.m.) by 68 percent. “American Idol” concludes its season tonight opposite the season-ending installment of “Survivor” on CBS, which should be another interesting battle.
In the specials department on CBS last night was “Judge Judy Primetime” at a fourth-place 4.3/ 7 from 8-9 p.m. into a 3.0/ 5 for “ACM Presents: An All-Star Salute to the Troops” from 9-11 p.m. “Judge Judy,” the top draw in daytime, might be better off sticking to her traditional daypart in the future.
Also present last night was an encore of The CW’s “Supernatural” at a last-place 0.8/ 1 in the 8 p.m. hour. The triple-digit year-to-year growth for The CW was a result of the network airing encores of “The Vampire Diaries” and “America’s Next Top Model” on the year-ago evening.

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

ReplyDeleteIt was also pre-empted in New York -- now, whether that's the city too (which I suspect it was) I do not know because I live in the Capital District (Albany), but it was pre-empted in my area, and likely NYC as well.

ReplyDeleteHe split SPN reporting, read the hole post. Finale was 1.5 and repeat - 0.8. Of course it was preempted, so those numbers will go down. I expect 1.0 demo, goes down to 0.9 in finale.

Thanks Everyone for answering about the pre-emption, I know the networks factor that in but man it seems like The CW and Supernatural in particular have really been hit hard lately.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought it would do better than this. It's filler trash. Joe Millionaire did well with a similar premise 10-15 years ago. Perhaps times have changed. That would be nice to think.
ReplyDeleteIt's annoying, as it means that people can say good episodes were bad because of ratings, when these last episodes have had endless preemptions knocking down the numbers.
ReplyDeleteNBC also had frequented preemptions on Fridays (i think almost every Friday for a few weeks now), where people got excited for Hannibal's ratings, but then they realized NBC was preempted.
